Several weeks ago Donald Trump suggested that he would eliminate the national debt over an 8 year time period by selling off federal assets at the rate of $2.25 trillion per year. Should a graduate of Wharton School and a real estate mogul say such a thing? Supply and demand are the most basic economic principles and are taught in Economics 101. Shouldn't such a well educated individual and one who has created an amazing awesome $10 billion (trillion? quadrillion? quintillion?) company based on real estate know that dumping that much additional real estate on the open markets would depress...

There's no denying Donald Trump is a big wig - but researchers have photographed a caterpillar that bears an uncanny resemblance to the property mogul's hair. With its brightly coloured, carefully parted 'do' the bizarre looking caterpillar has been compared to the U.S property mogul's unique look.

Christians...Beware For Whom You Vote The most shocking development of the current election cycle is the abandonment of Scriptural principles by Christian voters for "pragmatic" reasons. The following verses from the Bible are meant as a gentle reminder of God's view:Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; (Psalm 33:12 )For whom should Christians vote?Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14 )What character should acceptable candidates display? The following verses shed light:The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride,...

NOT SO SPECIAL DELIVERY Someone has a bone to pick with a local congresswoman. Ginny Brown-Waite has been getting bones in the mail at her Brooksville office. A German magazine, The Titanic, told readers to mail the bones after she sponsored a bill to bring back the remains of american soldiers buried in France. The first package arrived on Friday. It had a strong odor so workers in the office called the fire department. A bomb technician x-rayed the package and found the bones inside.

TALLAHASSEE -- Secretary of State Katherine Harris, who is running for Congress in Sarasota, announced today that she has resigned. She submitted a resignation letter to the governor today, with a retroactive resignation date of July 15. She said she has been acting as a defacto secretary of state since that date. She said she didn't submit a resignation letter when she qualified to run for the 13th Congressional District earlier this year because she thought she didn't have to. Because the secretary of state job is being abolished, Harris said she thought the resignation letter was not needed. In...

The Democratic presidential hopefuls are already scrapping for a chance to take on George W. Bush in 2004. They all are operating on the assumption that Bush, like his father, is destined to be a one-term president. Yes, Bush's poll numbers are slowly drifting down from last fall's meteoric levels. But his vulnerability might be a mirage. If so, it will join at least six other assumptions about him that proved to be myths. It turns out that the politician who burst into the American consciousness in the last presidential campaign is not the person many people made him out...

SARASOTA -- Katherine Harris' congressional campaign issued a press release Friday denying that she tried to sneak into a Tiger Bay Club banquet. Harris showed up Wednesday night at the dinner featuring former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich. She was turned away by club President Marj Baldwin, who told her the event was sold out. Baldwin said Thursday that Harris, Florida's secretary of state, also tried to get into the event in the Michael's on East restaurant ballroom through an adjoining wine room. She was stopped by Baldwin's daughter, Kim Noyes. Harris said it's preposterous to think that she was...

Legislator requests investigation of Palm Beach elections chief By Kathy Bushouse and Nicole Sterghos Brochu | Staff Writers Posted August 28, 2001 With little more than gut instinct and a book by Miami Herald reporters about the November elections, state Rep. Irv Slosberg is calling for an investigation of Palm Beach County Elections Supervisor Theresa LePore. Slosberg, a Boca Raton Democrat elected last October, asked the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office last month to investigate LePore and her office based on his suspicions of "possible criminal activity during the election." Palm County Sheriff Ed Bieluch forwarded Slosberg's complaint to the ...

Coral bleaching -- in which colorful reefs turn ghostly white -- may not necessarily signal environmental catastrophe after all, a researcher said. Coral reefs are made up of the calcium skeletons of million of polyps. The beautiful pinks, greens and blues of the reefs come from algae that live on the reef and provide the polyps with nutrients. Coral bleaching happens when the algae coating disappears. While coral can live for short periods without algae, reefs die if the coat is lost permanently. Bleaching episodes have increased worldwide over the past several decades, particularly in Florida, alarming environmentalists. Many ...

As expected, local Boy Scouts will get a little more money from Heart of Florida United Way than the group had requested -- all dollars earmarked specifically by donors. During last fall's fund-raising campaign, the number of people who asked that all or part of their pledge be given to the Scouts nearly tripled to more than 1,500, raising $336,000. "Their dollars increased by $2,000 more than what they asked for," United Way President and CEO Brian Quail said. "It's about what we expected." Last year, the Scouts received $310,000 from the United Way, about 10 percent of the ...

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Floridians again will have a chance to put the death penalty in the state constitution. And the language they'll vote on could make 16-year-old killers eligible for execution. The state Senate voted 27-7 Friday to put a constitutional amendment on the November 2002 ballot. The state House passed the measure (HJR 951) last month. The Legislature has the power to put proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot independently; such measures do not go to the governor to be either approved or vetoed. Voters added the exact same language to the constitution in 1998 by nearly three-quarters ...

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Debbie Simmons doesn't think George W. Bush won the presidential election, doesn't believe his tax cut plan is good for America and doesn't even like his brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. But when Simmons came to protest at the president's speech before the American College of Cardiology on Wednesday morning, she was dismayed to find how few Democrats shared her concern. Only six protesters showed up for the Orange County Democratic Party's official rally, and two of those were the featured speakers. "I'm disappointed with the turnout of Orlando," said Simmons, who was carrying a sign ...
