Good morning - I'm new to your thread, but have lurked in other places on FR for years. Did anyone see the interview on Fox & Friends this morning with the British reporter from the London Times who infiltrated a fundamentalist sect in the UK? I've tried to find the link to his story but have been unable to so far. Has anyone else seen it?

    Thanks.

Did you get to see Air Force One? Sorry, didn't mean to be rude, but haven't been back since my post. No, not this time, although I did see it taking off several years ago when he was in Cleveland after the Supreme Court voucher ruling (Cleveland schools were involved.) We're located about 30 miles from Cleveland and the airport is another 15 minutes beyond that. Apparently, Marine One took off from the college and flew him back to the airport. I wish I'd known. That would have been something to see.

Good day everyone - just wanted to let you know that Pres. Bush was in my town today. It's a glorious day here and everybody spruced up for his visit. The road he came in on was lined with flags and the community college he spoke at was recently mulched and flowered.

I didn't get to see him, but was at a meeting at the college and saw the security, etc. As always, an awesome display.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

I had heard that he took the oath in private earlier, too, but no details.

Did anyone see Ron Reagan on Hardball Wed. night? He was at the Texas Boots Ball and could not have been more condenscending: "Rare meat; red, white and blue nacho chips and Velveeta - now that's some good eatin'" said in a bad Texas twang.

Good for you! I stopped in to our county's headquarters this afternoon to get my marching orders for tomorrow - I'm taking the day off the work the polls - and was surprised at the activity: two rooms full of volunteers working the phones. And they were from all walks - young, old, male, female - and the mood was great - lots of energy. I'm hoping Ohio goes big for W! Sadly, it looks like Kerry's rally downtown tonight may get a little rain ; )

Mr. Sta-Puf is in my town today at a Town Hall meeting on education. How lucky for us!

The steering committee for the county's BC'04 campaign has been raising a stink about the event. Originally scheduled for during the school day, despite the fact that it violated the state law about use of school buildings for political purposes, they changed the time to after school. But in a reply to our committee chair's letter, the school board president told us that it's not a political rally - it's an educational event (for the children, dontcha know).

It's unreal. In a reply, I told her that on my daughter's first day of school, her history teacher informed the class that the Bush twins are drunks. She told me I should take up with the teacher (no kidding, did that when it happened) and that she had no control over what teachers did in the classroom. Then why do we have a school board?

I wrote to our local newspaper's editor to let him know how the school board was trying to spin this whole thing. Unbelievable.

An Ohio democrat mayor came out for Bush. That's probably who you're talking about.

I'm a few days late to respond, but the guy is from Youngstown - a bastion of Dems, unions and stomping ground of James Traficant, prior to his unfortunate incarceration : ) He spoke at the rally for President Bush a few weekends ago in Akron. He was amazing - very preacher-like. If we weren't believers before he spoke, we were after he finished!

A family in our area made up a new sign after theirs was taken: You can steal my sign, but you cannot change my vote.
They took it to Kinko's and had it enlarged and laminated. I thought it was an excellent response and let others know what Kerry supporters are really up to.

    Good luck!

President Bush was back in northeast Ohio on Saturday. The pictures of him with Laura and the girls that were posted earlier on the thread looked like they were from the rally he had here. He was wonderful, as usual.

They were expecting 20,000 people and from where I was, all I could see was a sea of people. It was awesome. At one point he was talking about freedom and liberty and I swear you could hear a pin drop. Who knew 20,000 people could be absolutely still?

I have some pictures on my digital camera that I need to download. I'll come back later and try to post them. I may need help though.

Can't wait to hear more about the convention from those who were there. We were in NYC that week, too, but visiting a friend with 1 1/2 year old triplets, so I was too tired to even think about using the tickets that were offered to me.

Some Freepers were thinking of counter-protesting the protestors in Canton, but I don't know if they did or not. I was too tired to look by the time we got out of there.

Not too long ago, Kerry was in Cleveland and some Freepers went down. I couldn't get out of work in time. I guess there were more Kerry protestors than there were supporters.

On Saturday, right after W passed us and moved to the other barrier, he pick up a cute little boy - probably about a year, year and a half. As W was holding him the little boy started to clap. It was the cutest thing. I haven't looked yet for a picture, but it was a great photo op.

Some of the people from my county were supposed to go to Canbridge, too, but by the time we got out, the Cambridge facility was already closed so they couldn't go. Oh, well. I guess we can't be greedy.

Good morning, all. Great weekend here - I was able to see the President on Saturday when he came through Ohio. He was actually within miles of where I live on Friday night at a private dinner in the home of a heavy hitting donor - but alas, I was not invited - go figure.

I'm no good at guessing how many people were in the Canton Civic Center, but the place was packed. The President arrived almost an hour and a half late - he reportedly made many stops en route - but the crowd was loud and enthusiastic while we waited. When the President was finally announced, the place went crazy.

When it finally settled down - and it took a while - Sen. Voinovich introduced him for way too long - I think he was getting heckled at the end because he just would not shut up. Bush's speech was good and he worked it but, IMHO, it needs a little reworking. Nonetheless it was a terrific morning.

The space looked like it was set up "in the round" but there was a podium, so the people behind him could only see his face by watching the big screen. Right after he started he made a joke about the people behind him having the best seats in the house. Every once in a while he would turn around and they went nuts. He seemed to be having a good time.

We had tickets on the floor and had gotten there early enough to claim space by the barrier along where he entered and exited. My daughter was one person away from shaking his hand, but the guy next to her and others around her were holding out signs for him to autograph even though SS had come by before and said no to autographs. When they saw all the signs being held out they steered him away to people on the other side. No worries - chances are good that he'll be back.

One last funny story - I got tickets for my brother and his kids (2 and 4 years old). They got there just as the doors were closed and we managed to find each other in the huge crowd. Needless to say the kids got cranky and he couldn't stay to see Bush. Security let him out of the building, but he had to walk all the way around to get to where he had parked his car. As he was walking some protestor across the street yelled something at him - he can't remember what because he was juggling the 2 year-old, diaper bag and trying to keep tabs on the 4 year-old. Before he could react, my nephew (2 year-old) yells, "NOOOOO!" right back at the guy. Protestor dude was shocked and my brother looked back at him and just said, "HA!" and they went on their way without further interuption.

The Cheney rally in Cleveland on Saturday was fantastic. C-Span ran the one in West Virginia and it was essentially the same, although I humbly submit that our crowd was even better [no offense, mountaineer :)]! At one point, Cheney even commented on what a great crowd it was.

George Voinovich introduced Lynne Cheney and both she and the VP and one of their granddaughters came on to the stage. The crowd was cheering and yelling, "four more years," for a long time. Everyone on stage was laughing because Mrs. Cheney kept trying to start her introduction but the crowd kept yelling.

He spoke for at least half an hour to 40 minutes and it was hot and stuffy in the building we were in. He was constantly interupted with cheers and applause. When he got the part where he criticizes Kerry he noted, "this is the good part of the speech." Everybody laughed and cheered.

Despite the heat and the really long wait, everybody in the room was thrilled to see them and it showed with all of the yelling, cheering and clapping. There was an older couple standing near me and I had the impression that the woman had never participated in a rally like this before. She would start chanting, "four more years," a little self consciously, but she was dancing in place to the music and the clapping and waving her little flag. She was so sweet.

After it was done, we went up to the rope line and both the VP and Mrs. Cheney were shaking hands, so I dug in and went two for two! All I could think to say was, "thank you, sir."

About 100-150 protestors showed up (although the Cleveland Plain Dealer described it as "hundreds") and were standing behind barricades across the street. There were some pro-Bush supporters with signs standing near them, so they weren't there unanswered. When we left after the event, they were yelling things like, "Cheney go home!" One of the guys I was with reminded them that when Cheney goes home, it'll be to the White House. (Technically not correct, but clearly they hadn't really thought too much about their chant)!

When the Bush-Cheney 04 bus pulled out and drove past the protestors, he came on over the loudspeaker and wished them a Happy 4th of July.

A VP debate (the only one, or are there several?) will be in Cleveland in October. I will be your faithful correspondent!

Hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend. Mine certainly rocked!

On Saturday, Dick and Lynne Cheney stopped in Cleveland for a rally - I think it was before they went to West Virginia. I volunteered for the event and got to shake hands with both of them before they left.

I will now attempt to post one of the pictures I took. If all goes well, I will post others and a link to the picture of my daughter and me with the First Lady taken last month.

All in all not a bad way to spend my free time these past couple of weeks.

Good morning, everyone. I usually lurk, but wanted to check in today and share with you that my daughter and I were able to meet Laura Bush this morning. She was in Cleveland for a rally for W.

Last night I got a call from one of the campaign staffers in Ohio who told me that we were on the list for a photo op with the First Lady. We stood in line for almost two hours before seeing her.

She looked fabulous wearing a pretty mint green pant suit and was very kind and gracious. She shook hands with both of us and used our names when she spoke with us.

After, she was introduced by Hope Taft and did a great job talking about the President and his accomplishments. The crowd wasn't huge, but we were loud. Lots of "W is for Women" signs.

No pictures yet, but I'll post when it's available.

    Have a great day!
