The Guild 4-14-2005 Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld share beetle honour [We love them, yeah, yeah, yeah!]

U.S. President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld can now also be called bushi, cheneyi and rumsfeldi, or simply slime-mould beetles.

Two former Cornell University entomologists named three species in the genus Agathidium after the U.S. leaders, Cornell announced on Wednesday.

Quentin Wheeler and Kelly Miller christened 65 new species of slime-mold beetles, named for the fungi-like molds on which they feed, which they discovered after collecting thousands of specimens for a study of their evolution and classification.

Wheeler, who after 24 years as a professor of entomology and plant biology at Cornell is now the keeper and head of entomology at the Natural History Museum in London, said the U.S. leaders were being honored for having "the courage of their convictions."

The bushi beetle is found in southern Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia; the rumsfeldi is from Oaxaca and Hidalgo in Mexico, and the cheneyi is known from Chiapas, Mexico, Wheeler said.

Full of ... hmm, something or other.

In other news of the white trash:

KEVIN Federline has always wanted to live in Las Vegas, and his dream is coming true. He and pregnant wife Britney Spears have "reserved" a $2.5 million bungalow in the residential expansion at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The couple apparently has sentimental reasons for buying there. Not only will Wilmer Valderrama, Danny Masterson, Claudia Schiffer and Billy Idol be their neighbors, but their baby was "conceived in room 248 at the hotel," we're told. A Hard Rock rep declined comment. (PageSix)

Political news:

We hear ... THAT there's dissension at the Democratic Governors' Association because its chairman, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, is being touted as a possible presidential candidate. Seems Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, who would like to live in the White House himself, is wangling to get his own people appointed to the staff. (Page Six)

Fast Eddie in the White House? Give me a break!

John Effin Kerry to be the honorary starter for the Boston Marathon wheelchair race, story here. No offense to the competitors, but how lame is that?

I don't suppose any of the other 62 slime-mold beetles were named kerryi, kennedyi, sorosi or streisandi.

No way those toads would get the honor, not a one of them has ever had the courage to believe in anything that wasn't self serving.

Re: Scalia story. Liberals are digging that loser hole deeper with each bad act. I wish Scalia had asked the jerk if he kissed his mother with that mouth.

I get the feeling when Ms. Nixon was a child, playing Mystery Date, she considered it a win when she opened the door to the leprechaun.

Here is an opinion piece in "The Australian". A lefty ponders why the the Left "...has ended up opposing a foreign policy of spreading democracy...".
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,12856956%255E7583,00.html
In typical blind leftist fashion he blames...Vietnam. "Now when the trumpet sounds, the Left's instinctive reaction is to cry 'No, not another Vietnam!'".

He's got it wrong...and I hope they keep fooling themselves. Their problem is their anti-Americanism. They support humanitarian intervention, even military intervention, SO LONG AS NO AMERICAN INTERESTS ARE SERVED. In Vietnam, they didn't believe in the domino theory. They would have supported it if we had been there merely to deliver relief supplies. Somalia: they were all for it during the relief stage, against it as soon as we started trying to clean out the rats nest. Bosnia: totally supportive because we were serving Europe's interests, not ours. 1991 Gulf War: oooo, some people might get killed! (They didn't worry about Kuwaitis, of course). Haiti: easy one...intervention prevented the left from having to pander to those darned dark skinned boat people. And then we consider the entire Cold War. The bottom line is: the Left never perceived a threat from the Soviets. They always thought we should accommodate a world divided between two superpowers...you see, this checked American power!

And now we have Iraq. And Afghanistan. 9/11 exposed the knee-jerk anti-US lefties. In their world, if it serves America's national security interests, it must be selfish and too insensitive to cultural differences. Until they realize that, they will linger in the minority, wondering how to convince voters they are "over Vietnam". May they wander in the darkness for many years to come!

PS: you have mail.

A brilliant assessment of the rats. The little vermin that got caught up in the anti-war movement over Vietnam didn't realize who they were dealing with until it was too late. People like Jane Fonda keep deluding themselves into thinking they did a noble thing opposing the war so they don't have to admit who and what they had to cozy up to to accomplish their goals. They'll never let it go. And the America haters are right there to take advantage of their guilt, continuing to use it to try to make America their communist haven.

Just for fun (yes, I'm twisted) I intend to find out what Fonda writes about her Tom Hayden days and compare it to what Horowitz wrote about their activities. Fonda's apology for sitting on the anti-aircraft gun but then sticking by her other activities is a perfect example of how that bunch can't admit they were wrong. And if the regular type lefty can't separate themselves from the lefty kooks, they never will get it and will continue to lose.

When will the naysayers of spreading democracy in the ME be asked, "When did you all change your mind about bringing democracy to everyone?" "When did your political god JFK become George W. Bush?"

Well Jamie Foxx was slobbering all over Oprah when he was on her show around Oscar time. It's just what Oprah needs to be with the "in" crowd, a young boy toy!

This one is especially lovely and deserves to be resurrected:

----------------------------

BWB, I'm guessing the easiest time to meet is when we're staying at the Vistana. Do you know where that is? We'll be there Sat thru Tues nights, so you tell me which day is best to get together for breakfast. FRmail me your phone # and I'll call you after we check in. Oh...I won't have a car. It's her husband's work car and I'm not on the insurance. Maybe we should just meet at the Vistana? They have a restaurant. Is that too far?

Good day everyone - just wanted to let you know that Pres. Bush was in my town today. It's a glorious day here and everybody spruced up for his visit. The road he came in on was lined with flags and the community college he spoke at was recently mulched and flowered.

I didn't get to see him, but was at a meeting at the college and saw the security, etc. As always, an awesome display.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

I hadn't noticed before, the contrast between DeKnees and the lady wearing the pearls. DeKnees looks like one of those 50 year olds that thinks she can still wear clothing for 20 year olds. The woman wearing the pearls looks like a lady. Like night(mare) and day.

Meeting you at the Vistana is the best idea, I'll find out how to get there. It's not far at all. Since I don't go to the tourist area much I don't know of any good spots for breakfast so eating at Vistana will probably be our best bet. We'll talk when you get there and decide what's best.

Yea! Can't wait! :-)
