This thread has essentially destroyed what little respect I had left for the formerly great Free Republic. First of all, as billbears said, it is evident that Ron Paul never said anything he is accused of here. If you actually watch the video Ron Paul talks about how taxation is force, etc...He continues on to say about the tax evaders in question, “It sounds like” they’ve had an experience with the force of government. By saying “It sounds like,” Dr. Paul is obviously indicating he’s not familiar with the situation. Finally, he continues on to generalize about people who stand up for what is right, and only then does he include Dr. King and Mother Theresa.
And, I couldn’t help but notice that somewhere below someone actually said paying taxes is our duty. In a truly free republic, paying taxes is far from a duty.
"A person working 40 hours per week at minimum wage makes $10,700, which is below the poverty line for workers with families." - If you have only the capability to make minimum wage, you should not start a family, that is blatant irresponsibility that should not be rewarded with government mandated wage increases.
In my town two 14 year old girls were sentenced to 4 years for murdering a pregnant 17 year old. There was nothing but warm embraces and compassion for the heinous criminals.
It's not the facts that are important here, you're getting things mixed up. The point here is to do anything to discredit not only conservatives because they're the fascists, but also to discredit our military. Facts just get in the way of what needs to be accomplished. To hell with the ACLU, good post.
