might i add that even if we do hold onto this, the replacement will most likely be a big time RINO. for quite awhile Dunn has gotten away with portraying herself as a moderate and voting rather conservative, especially for that district, but while she can do that in a district she's represented for years, it'll be tough for a new one to do so.

first she refuses to run against Murray, now this. quite annoying to me. holding onto this seat is going to be very difficult.

I don't see how it's getting more Republican, it voted for Mondale and Moe and just about every state senator and representative from there is a Democrat, (maybe even every one period), and they usually win elections often getting around 70%+. If a Democrat there is pro-life and pro-gun, they're pretty much unbeatable, and even if they aren't, they'll probably still win anyway (note the victories for Gore and everyone I mentioned). But I think the biggest problem is lack of good candidates, since just about every elected official is a Democrat. If the GOP could control redistricting it could be done, but they would have to make the suburban districts or the west more vulnerable as a result. And of course if Oberstar retires before 2012 a Democrat will win the seat and will hold it for another 30 years.

there is no way Oberstar's district is going Republican in the next 20 years at least. It's been Democrat since the 50's, voted for Gore by a fairly wide margin, and has voted for Democrats in virtually every other race as well, it was where Humphrey had the best showing in his 3 way governor's race in 1998, since most of the people are party loyalists rather than the liberals who were drawn in by Jesse's socially liberal views. It also has Duluth, which is a pretty liberal city, and no way to neutralize that. Oberstar's hardly a blue dog anyway, he may be pro-life and pro-gun, but otherwise he's your typical socialist, leftist extremist democrat.

Peterson's is a toss up. The people there are like the Dakotas, they're pretty nonpartisan. Yet somehow it takes a Dem as conservative as Peterson to win there but the Dakotas elect full blown socialists. I've never been able to figure that out. But I don't think he'll be leaving for awhile anyway.

And Moore is anything but a Blue Dog, he's definately a liberal, he only has a 20 from the ACU. He even supports partial birth abortion. How he survives there is a mystery.
