(The Center Square) – Billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will take over a new effort to make the government more efficient.
President-elect Donald Trump’s new “Department of Government Efficiency,” or DOGE, is a government efficiency effort that has turned a public spotlight onto government waste and duplication in a way not done for years.
Musk created a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) account on X where he is asking followers for suggestions.
Aside from lopping off entire agencies, here are some examples of controversial federal spending that, based on Musk and Ramaswamy’s recent comments, could be in the line of fire for coming cuts:

DOGE
How about looking at this from what we really need to spend and cut everything else?
Ahhhh. How quickly we forget all.these programs were approved by congress and passed a vote. I doubt any of these programs will be successfully de funded without going for another vote.
Our friends the democrats have illustrated quite clearly that funded doesn't necessarily mean executed.
I need to write these guys a letter. Although they are pretty smart so maybe they know all the tricks.
You could cut the Gov workforce probably 70% and still achieve the same productivity. Because 30% of the people do all the work.
But what will happen is the Gov will get rid of those 30% then say “see! We told you we couldn’t do it!”
Oh, they’ll close the national parks, put one guy on the border checkpoints so the lines are 10 miles long.
Oldest Govt trick in the books.
They are probably salivating at the opportunity actually, no better way to make the people disapprove of what you are doing.
Correct.. the one permanent fix is to repeal the 17th Amendment
The rest of this is arguing about the deck furniture on the Titanic or focusing on what color dress Ms Kennedy was wearing in Dallas.. busy work to keep us from seeing the real issue, the uniparty and lobbyists running loose while the Senior Executive Service manages it.. its all built on the 17th Amendment.
$3.8 billion each year to Israel.
Oh, look—they’re saving money by replacing people with AI!
$950 billion each year to the Military Industrial Complex (MIC). Yet, we do not get much national defense from that spending.
NOAA, the weather people, has a SWAT team. Why? Cut that.
ZERO BASED BUDGETING! Should be about 20% left based on that.
- Billions to maintain office buildings, many of which are empty as employees work from home.
- $6 million for United States Agency for International Development to boost tourism in Egypt.
- $400 million of taxpayer dollars for presidential campaigns.
- $2.6 million in taxpayer dollars to fund a critical race theory program that trains students to promote CRT.
- Millions to train school teachers in DEI.
- Hundreds of millions of FEMA dollars for migrants.
- Tens of millions per year for DEI at the Pentagon.
- Nearly $32 million in COVID funding for luxury cars.
- $1.2 million in taxpayer dollars to find evidence that racism is to blame for poor sleep-in minority communities.
- $426,250 for an app to encourage Latino men to exercise.
- $28 million for camouflage uniforms that you can see.
- Billions in improper payments of COVID funds to businesses.
- $100 million for projects in wealthy Manhattan.
- $1 million for the West Harlem “Environmental Justice Center.
- “$50 million via “Environmental Justice” grant to anti-Israel group.
- $3 billion overall for “Environmental Justice” grants to groups, many of which are accused of partisanship.
- Part of New York’s $9 billion in federal COVID funding went to train staff in ‘culturally responsive sustaining instruction’ and ‘privilege’ and to recognize ‘equity warriors.’”
- $200,000 spent by the Department of Defense on Starbucks espresso machines.
- Millions to study COVID “misinformation.”

A first and about time.
Given Trump has floated the idea of removing the income tax, I want to believe they are looking at amendments they could press to repeal in an Article V convention.
I’d like to see the 16th and 17th amendments repealed and Article the First finally ratified after almost 250 years.
You mean like how every business in the world works?
That would be a novel approach.
But….wait until they do it. The forum would be screaming with the voices of the unseeded Federal workers being ripped from the teat of Uncle Sugar.
No more Lindsey's and mitches!! Senators should be recalled and let go. NYC would have less control of congress because the rest of the state would have a better rep in Selecting a senator!!!
