I got a phone call from one of my brothers on the 4rd, passing along the very bad news that our brother, Neil E. Wright, had died and been found by his landlord. I don't know how active he'd been here on FR of late, but I do know he had a goodly number of friends here. Your prayers for the family will be appreciated.

Everybody just relax. Islam is badly misunderstood. The negative stereotype of Islam is the usual evil-doings of Zionists in America and their foolish fellow travelers, fundamentalist Christians. Please don’t listen to what these hatemongers say about Islam and hear us out. So implies the nationally-launched campaign of Muslim organizations in the United States. Ads are popping up in newspapers and magazines proclaiming the magnificence of Islam and aiming to refute the “false allegations” of Islam’s ill-wishers.
  • My DADT Letter to the Editor (in response to their pro-repeal "wide stance")

No. Do NOT do away with DADT, unless you are ready to go back to how it was BEFORE that attempt at compromise. Open homosexuals have no place in the Armed Forces, period. They cause way too much turmoil and SERIOUSLY impact readiness and unit cohesion, which are all too apparent in infantry units, special ops units and their immediate support units (helo support, artillery, and so forth). Then if you go shipboard, you get a whole 'nother set of issues, especially with berthing, messing and hygiene facilities being what they are (and worse for embarked troops). When you have...

I believe this is a great lesson in economics...I hope most of us know this already. Bar Stool Economics Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100 and If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.) So, that's...

Email from MiliNet (an intel source for retired and prior service Marines and others) | 22 Aug 2010 | Col G. I. Wilson, USMC (Ret.) and H. Thomas Hayden
MILINET: WHY A MARINE CORPS By: Col. G.I. Wilson, USMC (Ret.) & H. Thomas Hayden Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates recently said that he had ordered a review of the future role of the Marine Corps amid "anxiety" that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan had turned the service into a "second land army." In remarks for a speech at Marines' Memorial Theatre in San Francisco Gates said that the review would seek to define a 21st century combat mission for the Marines that is distinct from the Army's, because the Marines "do not want to be, nor does America...
  • Rather have my child die than use a gun?

Gun Talk Email | 2/25/2010 | Tom Gresham, email
RATHER HAVE MY CHILD DIE THAN USE A GUN? If you were having trouble understanding anti-gun people, this will not help. A high school math teacher named Doug Van Gorder wrote a letter to the Boston Globe decrying the idea of having self-defense guns in schools. In part of his letter, he shows what can surely be described as one of the most telling views into the minds of gun banners. "But as a progressive, I would sooner lay my child to rest than succumb to the belief that the use of a gun for self-defense is somehow not in...

Words & Pictures & Sacred Honor D.C. Wright So I got the email from my friend Wally, about Doug Todd’s article on his website at talkinfreedom.com. Now, Wally and Doug are Brothers of mine, Marines who also served in Vietnam and whose battalion my helicopter squadron supported, the always hard-fighting, hard-luck First Battalion of the Ninth Marine Regiment (1/9), the Walking Dead. I’m telling you, these Marines learned the cost of freedom the REAL hard way. Most Marines only have to learn the HARD way. Anyway, when I got Wally’s email and got the link, I was right there. Doug...

Morality By D.C. Wright Monday, August 24, 2009 All right, gather ‘round, people. Today we get to talk about MORALITY. Morality is, in my view, widely misunderstood, much like the meaning of our Constitution. Yet, morality is a vital component of a free society. The United States were founded on the moral principles of Judeo-Christian beliefs. No matter what some revisionist might want us to swallow, THAT is the plain fact of the matter. These Biblical beliefs were ingrained in this country from the beginnings. My own ancestors, on the Mayflower, came in the hope of religious freedom, that is,...

The Constitution: Part Two By D.C. Wright Wednesday, August 19, 2009 OK, here it is Tuesday and time to continue this discussion. Since I’ve heard nothing to the contrary in the comments you have been kind enough to make to me, I am presuming agreement on the purpose of the Constitution and the definition of rights. What I HAVE heard from you is along the lines of “What do we do next?” and “How can I help?” In my mind, and as a reader passed on to me, in others’ minds as well, the Founders provided essentially four boxes for...

I hear too many so-called “conservatives” whining about how people don’t understand the Constitution and what it means and how Congress and the Courts surely ignore it and how the Executive tries to do end-runs around it and how impossible it is to get people interested in seeing it enforced Well, Bunkie, let’s do first things first, then we can make some real progress at recovering our Country. We, who wish to CONSERVE the Constitution and the Republic it created, must first agree on some fundamentals: First and foremost, the Constitution is what it is, the bedrock and foundation on...

This is a petition for VETERANS ONLY, please. We swore an oath and we have the obligation to uphold it. This is the wording. Please sign it. I know some won't like it because the site supports lefty causes, but we can think of it as letting the enemy's money support OUR cause. I will continue to try to get it on my preferred site, but there's a technical glitch right now that's not yet resolved. Maybe, just maybe, some sense is coming to this global warming nonsense. The Australians are a pretty green so if they’re beginning to question GW hysteria then maybe there’s hope yet. The article a little long but worth skimming particularly if a similar awareness of the stupidity of a “cap and trade” law emerges at a national level in this country. Les ----------------------------------------------------------- RealClearPolitics June 24, 2009 Could Australia Blow Apart the Great Global Warming Scare? As a native of Binghamton, now ensconced on the other coast, I was extremely distressed to see MY hometown in the national and even international news because some lowlife decided to go on a rampage against otherwise innocent people. NO ONE in their right mind wants to read and hear about such happenings. I am no exception. There are some really troubling aspects to this which I would have expected a responsible media to examine and start crusading about, but I guess I was expecting more than the editors of the Press and Sun-Bulletin were ready to deliver. The burning...

Resurrection Day By David Wright Today, April 12, 2009, is Resurrection Day. It is, inarguably, the most important day in Christendom. Christ’s human journey began with His birth. We do not really know the exact date, for it is not THAT important. The important fact is that of His birth and the events surrounding it. His humanity and what He gave up to achieve it. I would guess that He put aside a whole LOT of things to fit into His HUMAN body, for we all are too aware that, while God is unlimited, WE are extremely limited and Jesus...
  • How about a "Sermon of the Week" Thread?

It came to me last night as I was drifting off to sleep that many of us do not get a chance, for whatever reason, to get to church on a regular basis. Therefore, my reasoning went, why not have a regular (weekly) "Sermon" thread where in someone (and not always the SAME someone) posts a sermon he or she has given, would give, would LIKE to give in a church of his or her choice. It should be "spiritual" and not necessarily "political," because I think most of us need teaching and spirit-filled refreshment for our souls. Politics we...
  • Police Department demands removal of Marine Corps flag from taxicab

For those interested in such things, I drive a taxicab in Vallejo, California. Because I am retired from the Marine Corps and am proud of my service, I fly a 12x18" Marine Corps flag from the cab I drive. Within the last couple of years, the city passed an ordinance regulating cabs. Now, the officer in charge of this (son of the chief) tells me that flying my colors is unacceptable to him. His rationale is that, because we are regulated by the city, we work FOR the city and thus he can do as he likes. Perhaps some comment...
  • Airport Admits 'strip search' body scanners WILL show people naked

    Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 10/16/2008 | Richard Shears
New 'strip search' full body scanners being trialled in Australia will show people's private parts, officials have admitted. But to spare their blushes, the faces of passengers will be blurred. Domestic travellers leaving Melbourne airport over the next six weeks will be asked to test the new security scanners that can see through clothing. The X-ray backscatter body scanner has been described by critics as a "virtual strip search." The scanner is similar to one that was trialled at Paddington station in London in 2006 in direct response to the tube bombings in July 2005. Similar systems have also been...

You've heard of Mazen Asbahi, who resigned as head of Obama's Muslim campaign after news of his ties to the Muslim Brotherhood came to light (and who is reportedly still working with Obama, anyway). You've also heard of Minha Husaini, the current head of Obama's Muslim outreach, who attended a meeting with open anti-Semites and terrorism co-conspirators. Now, meet Majida Mourad, the beauty school grad who falsified federal employment and top secret security clearance forms and gave details of security for our nuclear weapons to Muslim nations on the State Department terrorist list.
