How about a "Sermon of the Week" Thread?

It came to me last night as I was drifting off to sleep that many of us do not get a chance, for whatever reason, to get to church on a regular basis. Therefore, my reasoning went, why not have a regular (weekly) "Sermon" thread where in someone (and not always the SAME someone) posts a sermon he or she has given, would give, would LIKE to give in a church of his or her choice. It should be "spiritual" and not necessarily "political," because I think most of us need teaching and spirit-filled refreshment for our souls. Politics we get on every other thread. Also, it need not be an ordained minister, as plenty of us lay folk have insights and things to say to, for and about God and His works. Any takers? (I know I'll be trying my hand at it soon!)

Great idea! We are one of those folks who do get to church every week to worship with our fellow Christians.
However, there are many who, as you say, for one reason or another don’t quite make it to church even though they believe in God and are Christian. I see a lot of them in my counseling practice here in central Illinois and I rejoice mightily when questions of faith come up. And even more so when they do start going to the church of their choice.
A sermon message on a regular basis would be welcomed by many, I’m sure.

Whose sermons? I could post a few that would NOT go over well here on FR.

Hey, I'm pinging Freeper 'blogger' to this thread, I'm sure she knows where to find some sermons that suck up to 0bama, how 'bout it gal? Isn't this your department?
I promise I won't disrupt anything.

I never saw a thread of hers that “kissed up” to the False Messiah. Her threads are about praying for his conversion away from the dark side.

Limiting it to a “minister” doesn’t help much.
There are “ministers” who believe in Satan.
There are “ministers” who believe that God has a mother and owns his own planet, and that “god” was once as we are, and achieved godhood the same way as we can. (There is [unless he has retired] a sitting US Senator who believes this.
There are ministers who believe that a person is truly enlightened only if he believes that ALL religions are correct.
There are ministers who believe that God “saves” folks by giving them a chance to save themselves. That is, he lets men run that part of his universe, even though he is supposed to be a SOVEREIGN deity.
There are ministers who believe that all is ONE, and that all of us are part of “god,” the great “oversoul.”
etc. I could go on. Superstition and error abounds.

I have quite a few sermons I have given over the years, I could post them, but I need to have them transcribed as I have them recorded.
However, like someone above said, I might also piss some people off.
Not all Christians are in the same boat. While all who call on Christ will be saved as Peter was when he was sinking in the water, not all Christians agree on non essentials. So you could end up with a pretty fierce debate on your hands.

True enough, I suppose it's just those bloody headlines "Pray for 0bama" that I'm remembering, as for his being converted, if 0bama suddenly renounced everything he has stood for, professed a new found faith in Jesus Christ, announced that his decisions would be based on "What Would Jesus Do", I would bet almost any amount of money that his disillusioned supporters would lynch him inside of 24 hours.

Nor did I SAY it should be limited to “ministers,” had you read what I posted. Plus, anyone posting sermons on topics as you describe them would be subject to the same criticisms as any other poster.

A good, Spirit-filled debate is fine with me... but I am primarily looking for spiritual NOURISHMENT.

You are so correct.
Let me say this about my faith. I believe Christ is God, but separate from God.
I believe The Holy Spirit is God but separate from God.
I believe Christ is the Holy Spirit, but separate from the Holy Spirit.
It is called the Holy Trinity and many have tried and many have failed to describe it, however God exists as three equally but separate individuals who are One.
I believe Christ was a man who was born of a virgin when the fullness of times had been completed.
I believe Christ lived as the Law called for a perfect existence without sin.
I believe Christ was scourged and humiliated for all mans sins and ultimately paid the price for our sins and died on the cross as a common criminal
I believe He arose back to life on the third day and ascended into Heaven where He sits at the right hand of God defending me of all my sins.
I believe The scriptures are the words of God Himself as they were impressed upon men by the Holy Spirit.
I believe in a 6 day creation and that all men were sold into the slavery of sin by Adam. All death came as a result of the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. If you believe in any form of evolution, then you are not a Christian, because you cannot have death and destruction without Adam sinning first.
I also believe that one day Christ will return to bring all His brides home.
I believe we can disagree how the end will happen but if you disagree with me on the other points I made, then you are still lost in your sins.
Only a transformation in your heart and an open acceptance that Jesus is the only way to Heaven will save you.
My statement of faith has just lost 80% of the people who call themselves Christian, but that's ok. I would rather agree with Christ then 80% of those who claim they believe in Him.

May I recommend my church? Our church is one of those rarities of rarities...a megachurch that doesn’t compromise on scripture and is solidly Bible based. Our pastor is a Messianic Jew with an incredible testimony. The services are broadcast every Sunday on the net, but all of Lon Solomon’s sermons (and his testimony) can all be accessed on the front page. I looked for YEARS for a church that didn’t compromise on the Bible...found it here.

How long of a post would you suggest.
Some sermons last almost an hour, while most usually go about 40 minutes. However that is a long post for some to read.
Most good columns that people will spend time to read are usually under three paragraphs, but a easy read can get up to four or five paragraphs. However one can read five paragraphs in about 5 minutes time. That is one short sermon my friend.
Think about it. To be able to get a message across and give proper nourishment that will last, it will have to be properly developed before a concise conclusion can be given. Otherwise you might as well just read the Bible.

The one I belong to is the same. We are routinely attacked by other congregations in our area for being to “Literal” in our interpretation of God’s Words.

I’m not sure it qualifies in the way you’re intending, but the FR Canteen posts a sermon every Saturday night for our sunday thread.
It’s usually from a military chaplain and has a military slant, which is why I suggest it may not be what you’re asking for...

Thanks I will check it out. I could always use another reputable site for all the research I do for my messages.
