TO FREEPERS EVERYWHERE: Someone sent this to me by email. It's on the website of a Charleston, SC radio station HERE . It is so much better if you go to this site so you can listen to the music and the reading as you follow along. It is beautiful. Silent Night You say you will never forget where you were when you heard the news on September 11, 2001. Neither will I. I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man who called his wife to say, "Good-bye." I held his fingers steady as ...

The following is a Letter to the Editor in the 11/17 edition of The State newspaper of Columbia SC. I thought I'd share this with you. I found it an excellent take on the media today. Current media would have sided with Japan I let my imagination return to the days and weeks after the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor and think about what the reporting would have been if the present crews of ABC, CNN and others had been around. We would have heard Bill Maher expound on how brave the Japanese pilots had been to fly their ...

Feds Monitor Lawyer-Client Calls By PETE YOST Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP) — Sidestepping the principle of lawyer-client privacy, the Justice Department is letting investigators monitor phone calls and mail between some terrorist suspects and their defense lawyers. The move stunned many in the legal profession, which cherishes the absolute secrecy of conversations with clients. ``This proposal is a terrifying nightmare for innocent people who are under suspicion by the attorney general,'' said Laura W. Murphy, director of the national office of the American Civil Liberties Union. A rule published Oct. 31 in the Federal Register says the monitoring can ...

DAVIS Washington Bureau WASHINGTON -- Strom Thurmond Jr. said Wednesday that he feels prepared to take over as South Carolina's top federal prosecutor, despite criticism that the 29-year-old is too inexperienced for the job. Late Tuesday, the U.S. Senate confirmed, by voice vote, Thurmond's nomination as U.S. attorney along with the nominations of nine other U.S. attorneys from across the country. Thurmond's father, 98-year-old Sen. Strom Thurmond, R-S.C., was not on ...

If we play Turkey card right, bin Laden will soon be ours By WILLIAM SAFIRE New York Times Reached by cell phone in purgatory, where he is expiating his sin of imposing wage and price controls, Richard Nixon agreed to an interview with his former speechwriter. Q: How do you think the war in Afghanistan is going? Nixon: You call that a war? Light bombing of a bunch of crazies with beards, based on a policy of Afghanization before you even get started? That's strictly reactive and purely tactical. Q: Would you send in a couple of divisions of American ...

Caught up in our enthusiasm to post pictures of the very successful First FReeRepublic Network Cruise, we've failed to mention and occurance that will stick in my memory forever.Thursday evening, after the final meeting, we all took roses donated by CyberLiberty and Slip 18 and one by one we went out on deck. As the wind blew, we dedicated our first cruise to the memory and heroism of these FReepers. In our own thoughts, we let them know how much we would miss them. Then, we turned to the ocean, and in unison sang "God Bless America". Then tossed our ...

The FreeRepublic Network Cruise will set sail in just four weeks. As Freepers gather together we will hold the images of September 11, 2001 in our minds and hearts. As we listen to David Horowitz, we will be reminded of our great country and understand more about what we can do to help her. As we study our Constitutions, we will remember that our ForeFathers knew – and what so many of us seem to forget: Freedom is not given to us, it must be earned and sometimes the price we must pay to remain free can be high. ...

TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing. America: The Good Neighbor. Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television Commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record: "This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war ...

I received this by Email tonight. I post it in honor of the American Flag and all FreeRepublic Veterans and Patriots. THE BATTLE OF THE FLAG It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, ...
