  • Accessing media files stored on Windows 10/Linux Mint PCs with an iPad

I have media files stored on a PC running Windows 10 Pro and also available for storage on a PC or laptop running Linux Mint. Photos, music files, videos, PDF books, and other eBooks. I would like to be able to access those files and view/listen to them on an iPad. It sounds like this is possible, but I was wondering if anyone has suggested ways to do this, along with any pitfalls to watch out for.

When setting up Roku devices (or similar) on two TVs, are each Roku independent of the other? For instance, say we add a streaming channel that requires a code or confirmation. Does each Roku need to do this separately? Or does setting it up with one Roku impact the other Roku on the account and other TV?
  • Far fewer Californians getting COVID-19 booster shots than expected, bringing new alarms

Demand for COVID-19 booster shots in California has been slower than some health officials anticipated, according to data obtained by The Times, sparking new concerns of at-risk populations losing immunity as the risky holiday season approaches. The alarm is particularly high for elderly people and those with compromised immune systems, groups who have the highest risk of suffering severe consequences or death from breakthrough inflections. Officials are also strongly recommending that all recipients of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine get a booster shot.

Been using Firefox since v0.8. I was using Opera as a backup browser, but since the *forced* upgrade to Windows 10 20H2, I've noted a background process for Opera that I cannot disable. At least permanently. I find it annoying the number of "assistant" startup processes being forced by applications in Windows 10. Oh sure, you can try and disable them, but they just come back.

I had been delaying the update of Windows 10 to Version 20H2 since it first was released and showed up in Windows Update. I recall reading some comments about waiting out this update, but I don't remember why.

I was just listening to Lou Dobbs on Fox Business News with my wife, and apparently the US has been allowing international air travel from *non-citizens* for quite some time. Including from China. I didn't stick around for the rest of the details, figuring I would toss something at the TV.
  • Any Open Shell (formerly Classic Shell) experts here?

I purchased a new PC with Windows 10 the beginning of the year, and one of the first things I did was install Open Shell (used to be called Classic Shell). I had never used it before, but many Windows 7/8 users who were forced into Windows 10 found it to be a useful application to install. For the most part, I like Open Shell. But there is one issue that is bugging me that I can't seem to work around. In a Windows Explorer window, there is a Search box. Normally, past Explorer searches are retained and can be...
  • New Dell Windows 10 PC. Want *clean* install.

I am about to receive a Dell PC with Windows 10 Pro installed. It will have both an SSD drive (first one for me) and a SATA drive. With the past Dell PC purchases, I would take the supplied Windows OS disk and reinstall from scratch. Too much junk gets installed by Dell, and it seems trying to delete programs is more cumbersome than just performing a fresh install. I also like learning the clean install process before I actually put personal information on the new PC. Only issues are I have not used Windows 10 at all (initial need...

Requesting feedback for a distribution of Linux to install on a spare PC. The PC has a 4th Gen Intel i5 processor, 8GB RAM, and a 1 TB hard drive, so I should be good to go. While I used UNIX a lot during my 30+ year career, I have minimal Linux experience.

We're a couple months away (fingers crossed) from selling our house and moving from California to Texas. What we're trying to determine is the best way to move our three indoor-only cats. It should be noted that a 10 minute drive to the vet is a challenge. Not sure how we're going to handle a 1,700+ mile move.

My wife was watching Hannity's show this evening (recorded). From another room I heard her yell out. Upon entering the room she was yelling at the TV because of Hannity. She said a couple of her favorite "guests" were on today's show, and Hannity had essentially talked over both of them. I think my wife was on the edge of throwing the remote at the TV.

I've been a user of Firefox since a SysAdmin at work recommended it back in 2004 when they were at version 0.8. Over the years, some of the features I like disappeared from Firefox in their updated versions, most of which were added back in via extensions. At this point, I have 10 extensions installed, half of which deal exclusively with look and feel. With the latest warning about losing most/all of these legacy extensions with the release of Firefox 57, I decided to look at other browsers. When you add in the SJW nonsense the Mozilla people have associated...

  • Mark Begich concedes to Dan Sullivan in Alaska Senate race

Finally. An additional 7,286 votes were added to the Alaska Senate totals today so far. And while Begich received almost 58% of those votes, Sullivan still leads by 6,211 votes. It is believed there will no more than 3,000 additional ballots to count by this Wednesday (Nov 19).

  • Alaska Senator race updated

    11/14/2014 1:40:07 PM PST · by CatOwner · 75 replies
Alaska updated their 2014 election results web site about 25 minutes ago. An additional 7,100 votes were added in to the race for Senator. Begich got 55.0% of those votes, while Sullivan got 37.3%. Sullivan's lead dropped from 7,911 to 6,651 votes. At that pace, if an additional 30,000 votes are counted, Begich would close to within 1,300 votes of Sullivan and within the 0.5% margin for a recount (I assume it's 0.5% for Alaska).
