State senators passed a bill today 24-16 allowing Gov. Deval Patrick to pick a temporary U.S. senator by the end of the week following a final procedural vote tomorrow. If the House and Senate pass the bill, as expected, tomorrow a temporary senator can be chosen to fill the seat left vacant by the late U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. A permanent replacement will be elected by voters during a Jan. 19 special election.

Curt Schilling, best known for his bloody-sock pitching heroics, may step up to the plate and run for U.S. Senate. The retired Red Sox [team stats] ace said today in a telephone interview with NECN that even though his “plate is full,” he’s been contacted to consider a run for the open seat held by the late Edward M. A Westport lawmaker who voted to hike the state sales and alcohol taxes was spotted brazenly piling booze in his car - adorned with his State House license plate - in the parking lot of a tax-free New Hampshire liquor store, the Herald has learned. Michael J. Rodrigues’ blue Ford Crown Victoria, emblazoned with his “House 29” Massachusetts license plate, was parked outside a Granite State liquor store on Interstate-95 South over the weekend, according to a witness who provided pictures to the Herald.

As I was driving home last evening on one of the many newly paved roads in MA, I began to think and formulate a few questions (this is where the uber brain power of freepers can come in) 1. Where does this massive quantity of asphalt come from? 2. Asphalt is derived from oil. Where are all the leftist environmental global warming zealots and why aren't they crying foul? 3. Angry police union members chased away MWRA workers in Everett and Revere today citing safety concerns in the first test of the state’s new rules on road details. In Everett, union members and reporters and cameramen surrounded a two-person crew from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority that showed up to perform routine maintenance inside a manhole at 11:30 a.m. After several conversations with union members, the MWRA crew left without doing any work.
