AUTOPILOT-DISENGAGE is typical standard procedure when pilot determines manual intervention is required. However, it seems the MCAS was programmed with a mind of its own. Flight procedures and training apparently did not clearly convey this.

Just curious on what basis do you make that assertion? Actual direct knowledge of Toyota vs Lexus factory quality procedures? After all most Lexus and Toyotas share primary parts such as engine blocks and body pans.
I have been a new Toyota vehicle buyer every 2-3 years for last 30 years-—Camry/Corollas/small trucks. During last series of small trucks (1994, 2000, 2006), I have observed progressively cheaper material and questionable design features. If you look at the TSB’s released on Tacomas since current gen was introduced in 2005, one would probably not be very far off in calling the 2005 Tacoma a beta release. From on-line forum chatter, the first year of the current gen Camry apparently had significant problems with the 5-speed automatic. I have lost my affinity for Toyota and plan to shop Ford because 1) improved quality 2) I’ll never buy from the bailout buddies-—GM or Chrysler.
