Elon Musk’s X to stage town hall with Donald Trump
NY Post ^ | May 31, 2024 | Ariel Zilber

Elon Musk’s social media platform X will stage a town hall with former President Donald Trump — three years after he was suspended from the site in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

The presumptive Republican nominee for president, who was convicted Thursday in connection with a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, will answer submitted questions during the livestream event, which will also be broadcast in a partnership deal with cable channel NewsNation.

The social media company is also planning a similar town hall with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr, who is running for president as an independent. President Joe Biden was invited by the social media company to do a debate or a town hall, but he declined, according to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported news of the X sit-downs.

The date, location and moderators for the town halls have yet to be announced.

X users will submit questions but the moderators will have final say over what is asked.

The moderators will likely include at least one NewsNation host, alongside other journalists, Axios reported.

Trump, who famously steamrolled CNN’s Kaitlan Collins during a town hall last year, has the first of his two debates against Biden slated for June 27.

The idea for the town halls was first conceived by X CEO Linda Yaccarino, who pitched it to Nexstar Media Group, NewsNation’s parent company.

The Post has sought comment from X and NewsNation as well as the campaigns for Trump, Kennedy and Biden.

Trump has posted just once on X since his ban was lifted by Musk last year after he acquired the site formerly known as Twitter for $44 billion in late 2022,

The town hall comes a flurry of reports indicating that Musk and Trump have grown closer in recent months.

Elon is standing up to the tyranny. I hope he has a great security detail. The democRATs are ruthless, just ask JFK.

When? Will it be any more successful than Musk's X kick-off for DeSantis?

Maybe Musk will skip the hosts and be the moderator, taking the audience questions, picking from them, to carryon a town hall with Trump? That'd be better than some media hosts.

And, yes, hopefully this will signal Trump’s return to X.

Hopefully it won’t crash like it did last time Musk hosted a Twitter space with Ron DeSantis.

Trump should be careful of this though because Musk is mostly out for himself. His purchase of Twitter harmed DJT because he’s been trying to compete with Truth Social for conservative viewers.

Elon also is in bed with the Chicoms so this is another reason for Trump to be wary. But maybe Twitter won’t be able to influence the content.

Musk buying X had no impact and did not cause the spectacular and continued failure of Truth Social. That is on the inexperienced management (Nunes) and bad tech team. They built a failure and hurt Trump. It collapsed on debut, took MONTHS to add people, and most recently when they tried to host a play-by-play commentary by Trump of Biden's State of the Union, it again proved a complete failure.

I understand Trump has to stand by it, it is his company, but for the sake of his campaign, he needs to get back on X.

If Musk was only out for himself he would never have bought Twitter.

You are totally wrong about him.

” he needs to get back on X.”

I agree but he has contract to post on his site first.

“When? Will it be any more successful than Musk's X kick-off for DeSantis?”

The article does not say “when”.

I'm guessing the event will be more successful for President Trump than it was for Governor DeSantis. For one thing almost all rank and file DeSantis voters can be expected to enthusiastically support President Trump but the reverse did not happen earlier.

His site, his rules. Sure, what's the big deal if he posts his comment on Truth Social for its few members to read and then posts the same on X for millions to read?

As of April 2024, 106.23 million US users on X.

As of February 2024, about 1 million US users on Truth Social.

THAT IS A BIG DIFFERENCE.

By your logic, the smaller DeSantis crowd crashed X so why would Trump risk his bigger crowd on X when even his own Truth Social couldn’t successfully host a live event? Yes, it is a risk either way, hopefully Musk has learned and X is up for the challenge.

I remember that. Then Musk shouldn't try to interview Trump while it's live.

Hasn’t been announced yet but everyone is waiting.

We basically have two of the most important players in present Western society meeting. It’s really that big of a deal.

BTW Elon is probably next on the government’s list.

Around the time that Musk bought Twitter, he stated in an on-the-record interview that he wanted Trump to retire and that DeSantis was better. I think he was trying to hurt Trump when he bought Twitter.

That doesn’t mean that he might have changed his objectives since then.

I agree that Nunes is a failure and a loser. Trump should definitely cut him off. He’s made countless mistakes as CEO. The site only exists at all because Rumble took over the tech, from what I understand. But that said, a lot of people feel like Truth Social is a ghost town. You can’t have a conversation there. I’ve tried it. When Elon bought Twitter and made it more welcoming to conservatives, this made people stay there rather than follow PDJT to Truth Social.

I misunderstood. Your point was that the Musk technical system failed during the DeSantis event.

I was thinking of something else.

Your point now well taken.
