President Obama regrets the distraction that his comments about a police incident in Cambridge, Mass., caused, according to a White House spokesman.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday that if the president knew "just how much of an overall distraction and obsession it would be, I think he would regret distracting [the media] with obsessions."
Gibbs did not say Obama apologized for his comments.

As more facts about Gate's deplorable behaviour and race baiting are coming to light, the situation is going from bad to worse for Obama. Gates at least has realized his idiocy and started to shut up....Here are a few of the comments that he made on a blog he edits 'explaining' his view of his arrest. Reading them gives us white folk an insight in the perpetually aggrieved black elitists mind.............I have included Gate's Harvard email address at the bottom of this post and encourage people to let him know we deplore his racializing this incident, that we support Sgt Crowley, and that he could provide a 'teaching moment' to young black males by telling them to respect authority, even if you do not agree. Be respectful, but state your mind.
A woman walking by Gatess house near Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at midday last week saw two men pushing in the front door and called 911. Police Sergeant James Crowley arrived and through the front door glass saw a man inside.
Gates had just returned after two days of traveling from China, sick with a bronchial infection, to find his door jammed. He asked his driver to help push it in. Hence the 911 call.
Crime in Progress
When Crowley spotted Gates inside, no doubt suspecting a crime in progress, he asked Gates to step outside to talk. Gates refused.
The way he said it, I knew he wasnt canvassing for the police benevolent association, Gates said on a Web site he edits. All the hairs stood up on the back of my neck, and I realized that I was in danger.
When Crowley told him he was investigating a possible break-in, Gates says he replied, Thats ridiculous.
This happens to be my house. And Im a Harvard professor, Gates said in that Web site account.
Crowley in his report says he asked Gates if anyone else was inside and was told it was none of my business. Gates accused me of being a racist police officer and added, This is what happens to black men in America, the report says.
Gates admits he accused the officer of bigotry, though the accounts differ as to when and how often.
His Own Home
Inside the house, Gates produced identification to prove he was in his own home and teaches at Harvard.
Its clear that he had a narrative in his head: A black man was inside someones house, probably a white persons house, and this black man had broken and entered, and this black man was me, Gates says.

Just saw the presser on CNN...the black anchor and black reporter both agreed that the police unions are at fault here for “not healing” the situation.
Nothing about the facts...but that’s CNN.
Jackass still think he is infalliable, huh?
After the DA that falsely charged the Duke lacross players.
Maybe his new TOTUS can help zero dislodge his foot from his mouth.
Doesn’t regret the comment....regrets the reaction to the comment. Big difference...
Very telling.
“distracting [the media] with obsessions”
Is Gibbsey saying that Obama is OBSESSED with racism??? Wow, looks like Gibsey told the truth on accident!
Translation: “I’m sorry if you were offended.”
Classic narcissist.
I wish I had bought the popcorn concession for this one. I could have retired.
That's the liberal's tack now - they should "talk and work it out."
Yeah, if I get a traffic ticket, I always demand that the officer and I meet and "talk and work it out."
What kind of precedent is that?
Gates' supports know the guy doesn't have a leg to stand on, and are looking for ANY WAY they can blame the officer.
The bogus "he's not cooperating because he doesn't want to meet" is the kind of craziness only a very twisted mind could come up with, and so you will hear it chanted by the liberals endlessly.
Why couldn’t Gates have said “This is my house.” and hand the officer his drivers-license to run through the system?
I have to wonder, how would Gates have responded if it was a black officer instead? Would he have been as beligerant? Or would he have been friendly and cooperative? Hmm...
General Patton slapped the soldier———Obamafraud disgraced the police officer—outcome? History repeated.
Under Obama your retirement party and funeral will be on the same day.
Union chief: Obama should apologize to Cambridge police - CNN.com [false headline]
Gates said Wednesday he would listen to Crowley "if he would tell the truth about what he did, about the distortions that he fabricated in the police report. I would be prepared as a human being to forgive him." ...Gates' legal team argues that authorities are misrepresenting the professor and the officer, and Gates has said he is determined to keep the issue alive despite the charges being dropped.
I just love the arguments that are essentially along the lines of "It's your fault for not letting me have my way."

Because it was not ‘his’ house. Harvard owns the house, but to Gates that is just a minor point, the fact Sgt Crowley would question him is the real issue. Once he said he was a professor at Harvard, Crowley should have prostrated himself before the learned professor and begged forgiveness for bothering him. Then he should have slunk out of the house, never to bother Prof Gates again.
Guess two of his three operational brain cells weren’t functioning, eh?
The Obamaloon. Loony then. Loony now. Loony for all time.
