    That’s like saying your grip on your rescuer is more important than the rescuer. In this case, Christ is running the Blackhawk, and you are practically unconscious, you have given him save-me-please, He is running the rest of the operation.

    Ie., once you cross the threshold to faith, all your sins are forgiven, unless you think Christ was not enough, and the church (any church) has to add to it.

    My preacher has a WAR for that explanation, when the person later starts looking lost again: was this person really honest about their initial saving faith in the first place?

    I don’t agree with this either, but generally, I don’t argue about it... because it presupposes the initial confession of faith was a lie from the “wannabe believer”. Maybe there are cases, but I can’t judge. But I will bet there are a lot of folks we think are “lost” in heaven, just as a lot of folks who think they are saved WON’T be in heaven, because of the simple inability to recognize Christ as giving MORE THAN ENOUGH grace for everyone who will receive it.

    My responsibility as a Christian is to convey the Gospel. I can NOT save a single soul. I need to have the Gospel down pat, God either wants that person, or He doesn’t. That does NOT include me needing to be a academically gifted theology professor or apologist, etc. God was clear: the Gospel stands on its’ on, I am just the conveyor for the person(s) He has in mind. Nothing more. I am to add nothing or takeaway anything. If you think otherwise, you may be in that camp of the self righteous who wakes up in hell.

    I once saw someone here complaining about the Babylon Bee’s staff hamfisted (or similar description) attempt at converting Elon Musk. Guess what? They did what they were supposed to do under God’s command, presented the Gospel repeated the Gospel to Musk. God takes it from there. As long as that Gospel message is accurately conveyed, that’s all God wants out of you for the initial saving phase. Honestly those comments just weirded me out... it’s like they were saying, no normal Christian can get the Gospel to Musk it HAS to be through a great preacher or apologist, to bring Musk on board. Great, you just said Christ was not enough. It doesn’t sound like you trust the Gospel or Christ.

    We come in again in the discipleship phase...

    Additionally, Christ also knew none of us would move His story absolutely perfectly, I suspect it has a lot of automatic self correction built in, so when it goes through my mouth, it will still work fine on the receiver side :)

    Bearer of bad news here: 19 million is a big turnout for broadcast tv nowadays. Over 2x some of the biggest long show finales.

    I think the tuner in our tv is actually used 1 night/year -— New Years, and usually to discover we are not actually interested, and turn it back off (my wife has high hopes...).

    I suspect many folks lie in this category (or even less).

    Not like I actually care. I run gas and I run electric, and no hybrid. Wouldn’t trade either, at least until they are worn out!

    Most gas pickups weigh in around +5000 pounds. You are sending plenty of microplastics into the atmosphere, at ALL TIMES. I mean really, it only takes high school physics to figure this out. This article must be written comparing a old Model S with a brand new Kei car or something similar.

    Additionally, this article does have errors. I rarely use the actual disc-brakes in my electric. Just when the battery is fully charged. I actually try to keep it around 70-90% charge to improve regenerative breaking power out of the driveway, and use even less disc braking action. And I am not virtue signalling. I just like that fact that it is one more set of autoparts that won’t need replacement as often as needed for same miles on a gasser. I will need tires more often, because this puppy scratches the pavement for traction all the time. Juvenile, I know, but hey...

    Also, everyone rails on about up front cost and never making it back. Well, I paid cash for mine. And I haven’t been to a service station since, while driving it, except to get something for the wife or a kid. I just get in my car, go to my destination, and drive back. Oh and heat is INSTANT. It has strip heaters, and defrost is just as quick. To me, those little warm ups, gas trips and loss of time are no longer worth it, unless I am going on a long trip, where I break out my gasser (5.6L 32V V8, thanks). Remote start you say? Yep, you will be at the service station even sooner than normal!

    No one ever looks at the time we waste at service stations, and the extra money while we are there, to get junk food or coffee we more than likely either (a) don’t need (diabetes, hello?), or (b) for coffee, when we can make it better and cheaper at home. Maybe some folks depend on that trip to the station to get out of the craziness of home, but being an introvert and having worked from home since 2001, I have no interest in leaving the house unless it is to club exercise or seek medical attention, visit family, or go to a beach or mountain vacation. And the electric is always ready, no stops to the gas station because I drove home on less than a quarter last time, and forgot to make the special trip out to fill up.

    And then the time we waste for oil changes every 3 to 5 kmiles. Geez laweez, it’s so freeing being on electric. You realize just how much time you invest to keep that gasser rolling every week.

    Finally a hybrid does not make sense for my driving habits (maybe it does for others). I know where I am going at all times. I’d kill a PHEV hybrid, because I’d never finish a tank of gas, except maybe every 6 months or so, and fuel injectors hate old gas (and Evaporative Emissions Systems as well). And there is the fact you still have to keep that ICE in tip top shape, and it is harder with a hybrid, because the oil often doesn’t even get warm enough to rid itself of moisture, insuring the build up of acids in the oil, and closer oil change intervals.

    What I don’t like about electric: finding a place to charge when you want to go somewhere. Here in NC, you can’t trust you are going to have a working charger, or if it is, that it will be a relatively quick charger. Unfortunately, another reason the gasser comes back online for the long trips.

    What is a shame to me is that the government is forcing electric on people. It is having the opposite effect. People are digging in. If the government allowed the market to take care of things naturally, gas would change to electric and only a few would rave against the change, no one else would care.

    Finally, I don’t see electric replacing gas in serious high performance racing, at least for a couple decades, unless there is a miracle breakthrough in battery technology. Capacity is not the issue, it is speed of energy release.

    A 3800hp drag-and-drive Steve Morris V8 at 45% thermal efficiency, is making 2.9Megawatts at the crank, instantaneous power, 3Megawatts going out the cooling system and exhaust. 3MW for 10seconds, is only 8.3KW*hr, but getting the 3MW out for 10 seconds is near impossible for the “small” car packs currently shipping to consumers.

    Hey, at least we are getting close with battery storage, only takes 3x50lb lithium ion batteries to match 1lb of propane for cooking.

    Calculation
    1lb propane = 21.5KBTU
    2.5KWh lithium battery weiging 50lbs (SOK 12V)= 8.5KBTU (100% conversion efficency, really it’s about 90% useable)
    21.5/8.5=2.53
    You could buy a additional half size battery, but then you get BMS and discharge rate limitations for the smaller battery.

    I guess that is the baffling part to me: efficiency. Propane is just so space efficient in terms of stored energy.

    I can cook on gas or electric. Prefer induction electric to any other form (extremely rapid thermal response, quick cooling eye, very easy cleanup, and while outside, does not blow out), but we have to do a lot better to make a camping stove + battery that can match a propane camping stove and 2lbs of propane.

    That’s one thing I have wondered about batteries and backup power though. For areas that lose power, propane and gasoline keeps people alive (whether hurricane alley or winter wonderlands). Batteries have a ways to go before they can match that portability. I am not a physicist, I can’t say if we ever can match that capacity or not. What we have is impressive — but not when you compare to fossil fuels, pound for pound).

    Hopefully we can get close, because our unelected masters who control our elected masters, want us off their oil as soon as possible. Hopefully they are OK with us having portable and backup power. Some days, I am not so sure.

    Eventually no portable hydrocarbons will be available. Hopefully we can get machines that convert our waste plastic to gasoline, for those “bad days”, or we can build illegal diesels to burn our used cooking oil in case of emergencies.

    Hydrogen also seems to be picking up momentum, and while not a perfect replacement, it has potential to mostly replace what we do with fossil fuels.

    Till then, it is pretty difficult to make a high grade gasoline or burnable gas (well, there is methane...). Those who would say it isn’t, where is my Mr. Gasoline that can take in garbage and push out 104 octane?

    It’s NOT about torque, nor HP (which is torque at a specific RPM). A tesla induction motor will blow the pistons out of your 5.3L block.

    The problem is the amount of stored energy to drive that motor.

    Gasoline, even though we throw away 75% of the energy in the tank to heat, still has plenty left over to turn the crankshaft.

    You need about 1MW/hr of energy storage in a battery to equal the tow distance of a light pickup with 29 gallons of gas. We are currently not even in the neighborhood for batteries. That’s why Toyota holds the opinion batteries can’t replace gasoline. Only a energy storage medium like Hydrogen can get close. The problem is you don’t “drill for hydrogen”, you have to extract it from oil, and the carbon is shed as CO2, which ticks off the Green Complainers again.

    Or you split water with electricity from solar (to be green), and that is just a huge waste of energy.

    Yes, the cool air will increase calorie loss. But in humans, we subliminally replace those calories by eating more. Hence, no weight loss.

    The key to losing weight is actually 2, IMO (not a doctor):

    (1) Switch to a keto diet (a real one, not dirty, etc.).

    OR

    (2) Reduce your total intake (if not diabetic).

    Unfortunately, I use food to soothe stress. I have not been able to stay with either for very long. For people like me, cutting the stress, and doing things you enjoy would go a long way to getting healthier. Unfortunately, reducing stress is currently not an option. I’ll bet a lot of other people are in the same boat.

    I have found if I can get coordinates, my Garmin never makes mistakes. But using text addresses for complex industrial areas is a crap shoot. Even happens in downtown areas.

    I think these are address tagging errors in the stored maps.

    You can build an electric car without a single computer.

    Range determination would be pretty difficult...

    But the inverters or a PWM if you wanted a universal drive motor (rather than a 3-phase induction OR brushless), can all be done with 555 timers, when it comes down to it.

    I don’t think power semiconductors are in shortage at the moment. We could also use power tubes if it came down to it. People generally only think about these problems using the latest tech, but in an era where everything is in flux, in terms of availability, we can start looking back at simpler technologies that can be produced in simpler factories.

    In some cases, safety system requirements would have to be rolled back by Big Daddy Government. But if things get too difficult to get, the people WILL speak.

    3 things here:

    (1) The salt drain basin is theoretical. And also has a possible major problem, which is #2.

    (2) U233 is produced during thorium fission. It has more nuclear potential than plutonium, and only slightly higher critical mass.

    (3) U233 may pool in a meltdown basin, and has a very real potential to produce a critical uncontrolled reaction in the basin, and become a dirty bomb. Not enough is known about this particular problem (at least that is public source that I am aware of), and U233 amount of mass present is a function of run time of the reactor’s fuel.

    Not against thorium, but it also not a miracle product as it has been marketed.

    The advantage of thorium is that we have more of it. But truthfully, we have enormous stockpiles of U238, which can be converted to Plutonium or other readily fissionable substances. Or just mix in a little U235 to pump it back up, and you can run it directly as traditional reactor fuel.

    Finally Chernobyl’s achille’s hill was the fact it used a graphite moderator, well that and it was protected and ran by functionaries of the communist party. Chernobyl did not need water to react (not the same as “safely running”).

    Even now the corium mix from Chernobyl develops little hotspots of criticality (as measured by neutron detectors around the plant).

    So did Europeans ones. But the airlines here and in europe have bigger money and they handled training differently, despite what Boeing told them.

    If Boeing made a specific sales pitch, then they should have to deliver to the lower end airlines. Otherwise they could have been honest and told them upfront there was a change in plans.

    But when checks per plane have that many zeros, folks had to die before it all came out.

    Remember the pivotal part of this was a combination of physics, software, and sales promises about pilot training.

    When I heard about the test pilots bragging about snowing the faa, I lost my Boeing love at that moment. Most of my passenger experience is on southwest 737s. A few flights on mad dogs, a couple Airbus rides, but generally all 737. I still trust southwest pilots, but what other hidden gems are there in the new 737? Now I wonder what else the faa got snowed on by Boeing.

    Boeing specifically said there was no need to requalify. Just the pivot point of this entire argument.

    To get the bigger more efficient turbo fans on the 737 chassis, they moved the engines up in a weird manner. This changed the physics of the aircraft.

    To workaround having to requalify pilots, they attempted to cover it up with software, enter mcas. Thing is mcas could technically work, but they cheaped out on that too, AND to avoid requal they downplayed it.

    The combination of pathetic mcas and not forcing pilots through requalification, and you get the disasters that occurred.

    If it wasn’t for the people who needlessly died, it would be total industrial comedy.

    “Naw man, she fly just like da’ol’one!”

    Bwahahahaha. Except hundreds died.

    You can get very powerful induction tops, not sure what you mean here... Granted very high power induction currently costs more than a simple gas burner.

    But for example, there are single eye wok induction units that can outstrip gas power and the speed of heating is faster.

    The wok used to be a turn off for many for induction.

    That pic at the top of the four red eyes isn’t induction.

    I run induction at home, gas when I can’t bring a generator camping. Induction is faster, doesn’t heat the room, and is actually better in terms of inside airpollution.

    None of that matters to me but the speed and raw power. Induction is just better, and it is awesome with cast iron.

    I’d run a generator on natural gas to power my induction stove.
