The black binder tucked under Marshall Walters’s arm is more valuable than just about anything on LSU’s campus during this overcast Saturday in October. It looks no different than the binders used by college students before iPads and laptops became the note-taking standard, only this one houses important information to keep this place protected on one of the busiest days of the year: an LSU football home game. Walters is careful with the binder, unzipping its cover to give an inquiring mind the slightest peek at the contents inside: bundles of stacked papers. “This,” he gestures to the binder, “is...

I just zipped down a city street on an electric scooter. It cost me 15 cents a minute. Fast and fun! My scooter was just lying on the ground. I picked it up, activated it with my phone and rode away. When I was done, I simply abandoned it. Won't it be stolen? No, because you need an app to activate the scooter and a GPS device keeps track of it. My wife loves using the newish Citi Bike shared bicycles that are locked in a big dock near our apartment. They were a good innovation. But then entrepreneurs came...

'Krakatoa': The Wrath of the Earth By RICHARD ELLIS The cover of "Krakatoa" by Simon Winchester. When a volcano erupts, it can do terrible damage, as Vesuvius did in A.D. 79, burying the cities and inhabitants of Pompeii and Herculaneum. But as the tens of thousands of people now living on its slopes can attest, Vesuvius is still there, and so are most of the world's better-known volcanoes, such as Etna, Rainier, Kilauea, Paricutin and Fujiyama (yes, Fuji is a volcano; it last erupted in 1707). Even Mount St. Helens, the top of which blew off in 1980, is (mostly)...

Norman Lear continues to defy convention about career longevity and age. The TV icon, who today celebrates his 96th birthday, and his Act III production company have signed a two-year first look deal with Sony Pictures TV. The pact includes the option to re-imagine titles from Lear’s extensive library including All In The Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Maude and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, among others. “I couldn’t be prouder and more excited about joining Sony Pictures Television, who has the guts to go with a kid,” Lear quipped. Sony Pictures TV, which owns the Norman Lear library, has been...

The mayor's office said that each vehicle would carry up to 16 passengers and their luggage, and would depart from O'Hare and downtown Chicago as frequently as every 30 seconds, the Verge reported. It added that The Boring Company planned to charge fares cheaper than what the proposal required: that the premium service should cost less than current taxi and ride-share services.

By voting no on the Pompeo nomination the vote would have been rescheduled to 11PM when Isakson returned. It would have been a waste of time as Pompeo WILL be SOS. Something tells me the rest of the Rats were ok with it because who wants to work late? That Dr. Suess character from Va. was the only one up in November which he'll probably win. On to the Senate where hopefully toe Rand Pauls and Flakes won't play their games.

Both appear crude. Unlikable. Set in their ways. Trumps treatment of the press reminds me of the sideline photographers who's camera went all over the place when they got too close to the coach. The 10 year OSU movement to get Hayes fired from the university got it's wish in crash and burn fashion when he went on the field and slugged the Clemson player. Today's MSM are just like the movement on campus. They never acknowledge that the leaders they hate so much are winners.

The prime time program shuffle resulting from the Bill O'Reilly departure from Fox News Channel is seriously flawed, and will fail quickly with a massive loss of viewers of "The Five".....now slated for the 9:00PM time slot. The show is boring, with only one member of "The Five" worth her salt {KG), and, it is not Dana Perino, who is terrible. The three males are losers with little substance. Bob Beckel and Juan Williams are not dummies...but 100% empty suits!!! The winning line up would be: - Martha McCallum at 7:00PM - Tucker Carlson at 8:00PM - Jesse Watters at...

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine says he'll seek re-election in 2018 but is ruling out a presidential bid in 2020. The former Democratic vice presidential nominee said in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday that his decision is final.

A length of white rope was the first abiding image of the election, and it was one which said a lot about Hillary Clinton’s campaign. On July 4 last year, Mrs Clinton was in Gotham, New Hampshire, to press the flesh months ahead of the primary – which she went on to lose badly. Things turned a tad messy as a gaggle of protesters emerged to harangue her about Benghazi. So out came the rope, behind which the press were corralled as she made her serene and carefully controlled progress through the town.

*** Although her characters were inevitably embroiled in melodrama, Nixon was repeatedly honored for elevating soaps during a television career that spanned more than 60 years. She pioneered socially relevant themes and dealt with them seriously, bringing attention to such once-taboo topics as racism, AIDS, lesbian relationships and teenage prostitution. In 1962, Nixon wrote a story line for “The Guiding Light” on CBS about a character who develops uterine cancer and has a life-saving hysterectomy. The network and show sponsor Proctor & Gamble agreed to the plot only if the words “cancer,” “uterus” and “hysterectomy” were not used.

...Ghostbusters has a reported production budget of $144 million and a print and advertising budget rumored to be around $100 million (it may be much more). So, at a minimum, the distributor needs to rake in about $250 million at the box office to break even. But here’s the thing the author of the Houston Press piece seems to have momentarily forgotten. The distributor only collects about half of the money that comes in to the box office. The exact amount varies from film to film and depends on which weekend we’re talking about but, in general, the distributor takes...

They are trying to define the experience," says Sony's marketing chief as vocal (and sexist?) foes of the female reboot face off against a summer tentpole's trailers. When Sony Pictures' second trailer for its female-fronted Ghostbusters reboot appeared online May 18, fans initially had to find it on Facebook. The studio had switched from YouTube, which hosted the first trailer, in a deliberate effort to combat a cacophony of negative reaction emanating from a very vocal minority online.

Donald Trump has gotten a lot of criticism from both sides of the abortion debate for his five different positions on abortion in three days. Those criticisms are legitimate because it shows Trump either doesn’t know what he’s talking about, is faking his position on abortion to appease his supporters, or has no real position at all. But that’s not stopped Maureen Dowd with The New York Times from asking one of craziest questions of the political cycle. Given his draconian comment, sending women back to back alleys, I had to ask: When he was a swinging bachelor in Manhattan,...
