Both appear crude. Unlikable. Set in their ways. Trumps treatment of the press reminds me of the sideline photographers who's camera went all over the place when they got too close to the coach. The 10 year OSU movement to get Hayes fired from the university got it's wish in crash and burn fashion when he went on the field and slugged the Clemson player. Today's MSM are just like the movement on campus. They never acknowledge that the leaders they hate so much are winners.
Never underestimate the effect of real leadership however crude. Patton during the war was not loved and even hated by his soldiers. Yet a VFW member related that many veterans of his armies have requested that their remains be transported to Europe to be buried with their fallen comrades and near their general. Don’t know if they are accommodated.
While essentially true, I’m not so sure there are other similarities. I got to know Woody Hayes a bit when one of my high school teammates, Harold “Champ” Henson, was recruited by, and went to Ohio State to play football. I got to hang around the Ohio State football team a fair amount and spent some time with Champ and Woody at Champ’s parents’ house. I have to say that, when he wasn’t in recruiting mode, Woody was a real horse’s ass, which stands in stark contrast to what’s occasionally said about Donald Trump’s private persona.
Woody Who ?
Jack Tatum dedicated a whole chapter to Woody Hayes. He didn’t have much else to write in his book other than bragging about what he did to Daryl Stingley. I’m sure Trump is very gracious in private. Doesn’t matter to the MSM. The list is long. Think Jesse Helms. A first class private citizen who stood out there to take the arrows. Then there are the John Edwards/Jesse Jackson who lead and knock up women on the side. Those preachers of the left are always out for themselves.
I was thinking more Donald Trump/Bo Schembechler.:)
Another illiterate seeks to lecture (simalarities).
A first class asshole
Woody Hayes was a solid Republican and Conservative, who taught a US History class at OSU in addition to head coaching duties.
And I say that as a person who grew up as a big-time Michigan fan.
Sum peeple jus' cant spel!
Regards,
As it happened, Woody Hayes was coach at Miami U. when I was an undergrad there. Later, when I did graduate work at Ohio State, Hayes was there ahead of me. I enjoyed his brand of football: four yards and a cloud of dust.
Yeah, Jack “The Assassin” Tatum was one of a number of guys that I met at some off-campus parties. I got the distinct impression that even his teammates didn’t like him. I know I certainly didn’t - and my coach gave me the same nickname.
