A 53-year-old British bomb disposal expert has been killed in a roadside ambush in northern Iraq. Father-of-three Ian Rimell, from Kidderminster, Worcestershire, died, and his local bodyguard was critically injured, when they were attacked on Thursday afternoon as they drove their vehicle along a main road to Mosul. A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that a British national was killed on September 4 while working in northern Iraq. "We stand ready to offer any appropriate consular assistance to family or next of kin."
