Wayne County Executive Warren Evans has issued an ultimatum to the people who propose to build a professional soccer complex in exchange for the “Fail Jail” site in downtown Detroit. Evans said that the project must not cost taxpayers any more than simply finishing the jail as originally planned would. That’s simply not good enough. While Evans’ defense of his constituents’ interests is laudable, he and the Wayne County Commission should go further. They should prohibit any and all subsidies, incentives, tax breaks or other public funding for the proposed stadium project. Public subsidies of professional sports stadiums don’t benefit...

The Norma Oryx is designed to provide a perfect blend of expansion and penetration, and is available in calibers both popular and rare. Three does jogged across the little valley below me, pausing only to look over their shoulders. It wasn't long – a matter of seconds – before I heard the telltale grunting. He wasn't the biggest buck I'd ever seen, but he had eight points and a big body, and at that stage of the season he was a shooter. Head down, searching side to side, neck swollen, he cruised along giving the does' scent the utmost attention....

On Friday, 3 February, 2017, 66-year-old Billy Harrell was being robbed in the parking lot of the restaurant he manages, the Ole Times Country Buffet. He was closing for the night. It was about 9:30 p.m. in Dublin, Georgia. Holding a gun to his head, the two robbers forced him into his SUV. They took a gun from the vehicle and other items. From idahostatesman.com: The robber grabbed a pistol and some other items from the vehicle and started to leave. When he turned back around with his gun pointed, Harrell fired a shot from another weapon he had...

Dear Editor, With Donald Trump’s confrontational, headstrong, and unflinching attitude towards policy and the presidency, many have found him difficult to get along with and have placed him in the category of ‘most unreasonable’. In fact, the US is already reeling from decisions made by the president in the first three weeks of his tenure. Say what you will, but sometimes we need a strong leader who is not willing to compromise on what he believes to be the right thing to do. Don’t get me wrong, I am neither a Trump supporter, nor am I in favour of his...

It was the first black bloc for Neil Lawrence, a third-year undergraduate student at the University of California, Berkeley. He had demonstrated with Black Lives Matter and seen people in bandannas show up at events and smash things. But after the Berkeley College Republicans announced controversial Breitbart News editor Milo Yiannopoulos would be speaking on campus, Lawrence decided it was time for a more aggressive form of protest. “It became clear to me and my close friends that the tone of living in America is changing, and in order to stop being scared, we started organizing,” he says. “I, a...

The Trump administration says the hundreds of undocumented immigrants it picked up in a nationwide sweep represent the worst of the worst, but a quarter of those arrested had no criminal record. And now Reuters reports that at least one person still detained had been granted legal permission to stay and work in the U.S. under the Deferred Action for Child Arrivals program, or DACA. Over 680 people were arrested last week as part of a five-day “enforcement surge” carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE says the raids targeted criminals, but the agency has failed to release...

No one ever expected a reality TV star would one day be the president of the United States. No one ever expected a reality TV star would one day be the president of the United States. No one ever expected a reality TV star would one day be the president of the United States. When it comes to considering the unlikely, maybe it’s best to keep telling yourself this. I mean, is there any other way to explain how the one man with top secret information on President Donald Trump and his ties with Russia could be none other than...

Dear Joy, Congratulations on your recent rise up the Internet music charts and for your ability to become “discovered” by an audience that ordinarily wouldn’t have listened to you. Trump voters, however, are a scary bunch of folks to gain as fans; the minute you turn on them or say something they don’t like, they will tear you down. You don’t strike me as the type that would fear anyone. As someone who has seen what they can do, I will say this. Do. Not. Trust. Them. There’s nothing wrong with love, there’s nothing wrong with hope, there is something...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)Add Nikki Sixx to the list of musicians who are not enamored with President Donald Trump. The former Motley Crue and current Sixx:A.M. bassist recently revealed his political leanings. Earlier this month, Sixx was participating in a Facebook Live chat (embedded above) and wound up talking about “Rise,” a song from last year’s Prayers for the Damned. Sixx said that it “was inspired by the environment of the presidential campaign and what was going on in the world, and we were just saying, ‘We need to rise up. We can be better than this.'” Sixx said that he didn’t believe...

The president gets to live there, but the White House actually belongs to the American people and starting March 7, they can start to take tours for the first time during Donald Trump's presidency. First lady Melania Trump said in a statement Tuesday she's looking forward to welcoming visitors. "I am excited to reopen the White House to the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come each year. The White House is a remarkable and historic site and we are excited to share its beauty and history. I am committed to the restoration and preservation of our Nation's most recognizable...

The runway debut of the 'hot felon' and Madonna’s late arrival were only part of the reason that The Phillip Plein show at New York Fashion Week was chaotic. It seems that the appearance of US President Donald Trump’s daughter Tiffany Trump had fashion editors fleeing from the front row. Tiffany, 23, had already made an appearance at Taoray Wang’s runway show with her mother Marla Maples, the second wife of the POTUS, but turning up among the A-list crowd at Phillip Plein was a more complicated manoeuvre. "Seating sh*t show at Philipp Plein because no editors want to sit...

For decades, H1B visas have been one of the cornerstones of the traditional IT outsourcing business model. In many ways, the possibility of legally sending workers to the US has allowed Indian firms to offer an enticing service: the client gets to work face to face with less expensive engineers that are authorized to temporarily work in the US, yet can also leverage a much larger team of offshore talent that is orchestrated by the on-site, visa-holding resources. The proposition is hard to beat: not only is it inexpensive, but the model can help solve time-zone issues thanks to a...

The hunt for potentially habitable planets outside of our solar system is one of the most exciting frontiers of science, and you can become a part of it without ever having to leave the comfort of your own home. This week, MIT and Carnegie Science Institute released a huge dataset containing close to 61,000 measurements of over 1600 stars. These measurements contain data that could potentially identify thousands of new exoplanets, many of which might be Earth-like in their nature. Unfortunately, the MIT and Carnegie Institute team simply doesn’t have the capacity to trawl through all of this information,...

The recent firing of Mike Flynn is par for the course of any new administration. When a new POTUS comes into office, he must evaluate the performance of his subordinates. Even more difficult is the fact that POTUS must insist that their performance and integrity [whatever that might mean] meets the standards that POTUS has set for himself and his WH. Lt.Gen. Mike Flynn has been a loyal soldier. He did what he was supposed to do in order to facilitate Trump’s ascendancy into the WH. However, rumors were floating around that the National Security team in the WH was...

“You don’t need to have a moratorium to slow the refugee resettlement program to the point where it dries up and withers on the vine.” (Bill Frelick) We get some juicy news here from a National Public Radio story from yesterday ….The federal contractors shared the guidance they received from the State Department with NPR reporter Amos. Is anyone going to share it with Breitbart or World Net Daily? Don’t hold your breath!First reporter Deborah Amos tells us that the State Department has said there will be no more refugees arriving in the US after March 3. Is that because...

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Michael Goldberg, a Cleveland-based professor, has read headlines about humanitarian and national security issues surrounding refugees and immigrants coming to America through programs nationwide. Still, all Goldberg could think about was how Cleveland businesses will be affected by recent executive orders made by President Donald Trump. Trump campaigned hard on the idea that immigrants threaten American communities, take away jobs and abuse government benefits like housing assistance and food stamps. So Goldberg pulled together a panel of local business and community leaders that offered an entirely different perspective. They say immigrants and refugees are critical to their...

Standing in the lobby of New York City's Trump Tower last month, LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault told reporters that the Louis Vuitton brand will expand its manufacturing in the U.S., potentially setting up a factory in the Carolinas or Texas. Yet even as President Donald Trump pressures other businesses to ramp up their American-based production, experts agree that the "Made in the USA" movement is unlikely to take hold in the luxury sector anytime soon. Designer labels face several major headwinds when it comes to producing goods here, including inadequate infrastructure and a shortage of raw materials. "You've got so...

xit polls from the 2016 presidential election indicate that Hillary Clinton won the union household vote by only nine points, a much smaller margin than is traditional for Democratic candidates and a contributing factor in Donald Trump’s win, particularly in the battleground states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Harold Meyerson of The American Prospect thinks Trump’s strength in union households may have been racial in nature. “Whites from union households preferred Trump over Clinton, 52 percent to 40 percent,” he wrote, citing an unidentified network exit poll. If accurate, race must have played a big part, but we lack enough...
