I've actually had requests to write more on the Tibet issue, and after a couple of weeks of dead silence from world leaders, even the Catholic Church and various so-called human rights organizations like Human Rights Watch who just this week decide to write an article "suggesting" that China allow inspectors into the country (I'm sure that Hu felt a sharp pain in his ass when HRW published their luke warm commentary). The only real outrage is on the internet, like Global Voices Online, where netizens in Korea and Japan talk about filling out petitions to boycott the Olympics. In...

“Redeemed: From What? With What? So What?” (1 Peter 1:17-25)First of all I want to say that, from what I’ve seen of it over the last couple of years, the English Standard Version overall is a very good translation. But as with any translation, you come across a place here and there where you wish they would have translated it a little different. Today is such a case, in our Epistle from 1 Peter 1. In verse 18 the ESV has, “knowing that you were ransomed.” All the other major English translations--the New American Standard Bible, the New International Version,...

Al Qaeda’s Ayman al-Zawahri declared the United Nations an enemy to Muslims and vowed attacks on Jews “wherever they may be found—as prescribed in the Quran.” Zawahiri called twin bomb attacks on U.N. buildings in Algiers which killed 41 people in December and the bombing of a U.N. building in Baghdad in 2003 which killed 22, “down payments on the debt of blood owed by these unbelievers.” UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon issued an urgent plea for mercy to al-Qaeda. “We’re not your enemy, really, we’re not,” Ban insisted. “Look, our Human Rights Commission just voted 32-0 to punish those...

So that no Ohio Freeper would miss it, just wanted you all to try to get a glimpse of Voinovich's questioning of General Petraeus today. He was every bit as bad as Levin, Kennedy, Feingold...if not worse. There is no way that I will vote for that man in the future. None. I don't care who he's running against. Hopefully, we'll put an American up against him in the primaries when his turn comes up next. (2010?)

When we post a link to a scandal that involves the Obama or Clinton campaign--most recently Barack Obama's alleged misuse of tax exempt church resources to promote his campaign (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1998522/posts), we get responses like "Good luck trying to get anywhere with this" and "no one [in authority] will do anything about it." Those who provide wet-blanket replies of this nature had better get used to saying "President Obama" or "President Clinton" for the next four years, while knowing that their own inaction played a role in putting Clinton or Obama in the White House. If you are not part of...

A change of pace here for Red State Jackie as he sings a tribute song for Charlton Heston as you can see in this VIDEO. Mostly serious although there is some humor in it. My favorite lines from the song are those mentioning his movie roles: He can win a chariot race, He could wear a Mexican face, Don't you know he could kick a Monkey Man's ass...

Actor and political activist Charlton Heston died Saturday at the age of either 83 or 84, depending on which obituary you read. He'd lead a good life. He was politically active , at different times in his life, on both the left and right. He marched with Martin Luther King in the 60's and later became president of the NRA. These are not as disparate as they seem. Both were about fighting for people's rights. The first involved repairing a deficiency in the work of our founding father's, the second involved restoring the work of our founding fathers. Each reflected...

RFFM.org Commentary If former Republican Congressman J.C. Watts, who is himself an African-American, were running for the presidency of the United States, I would not be asking this question. Watts was and continues to be a conservative who believes in reasonable-sized government and fair taxation. However, I think it is a more than fair question that must be put to Democratic presidential frontrunner Barack Obama. After all, Obama did address the issue during his Senatorial campaign against former Ambassador Alan Keyes. Combine this with the fact it has been reported members of Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ, of which...

Well, it looks like the Surrendercrats in Congress have decided to be manipulated by the agents of evil in the Middle East again. It really is a repulsive spectacle to see our leaders carrying the water for fanatic Islamist extremists. They are simply puppets be choreographed by with the help of the SurrenderMedia. Here is something [note: the link is down, probably due to traffic] our leaders should have noticed on the run up to the hearings this week on Iraq and the testimony of General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker: At least 52 rockets or mortar bombs hit the heavily...

At the end of this post, the discussion turned to the definition of “regressive” in the context of taxation. I thought this discussion should be promoted to its own topic because, even though it may have been discussed before, it is worth reviewing from time to time. In a culture centered on income taxation, the use of the term “regressive” gets pretty loose. I have always understood the measurement for determining tax proportion as dividing a tax by its base. If that proportion decreases as the base increases, it is known as “regressive”. If it increases, it is known as...

Sorry, I thought I would post this, as I couldn't find a thread for today. Hope I'm not double posting. :-)

By Jeffery M. Leving and Glenn Sacks CNN says “Report: Men still not pulling weight on chores.” Major newspaper headlines include: “Home equity? Men are doing more chores, but women still do most,” “Men still slack off, but not as much,” and “Men do more housework, but not yet a fair share.” Several hundred newspapers and media outlets are covering a new Council on Contemporary Families report on men and housework. The message is clear--yes, men have improved a little, but they still don’t do enough, and women are still getting a raw deal. This is a terribly unfair distortion...

Yes, polygamy is illegal,as is pedophilia, and old men marrying too-young girls in Eldorado, Texas. But, how did one anonymous voice message from one girl at the Yearning For Zion Ranch instigate Texas Child Protective Services to confiscate 400 children without an investigation? Irony of ironies - A child protective services official, Marleigh Meisner who is overseeing the kidnappings, was also involved in the disastrous rush to judgment at David Koresh's Waco compound in 1993. "In my opinion, this is the largest endeavor we've ever been involved in the state of Texas," said Children's Protective Services spokesman Marleigh Meisner. Meisner...

Obama, Penny Pritzker, and a long list of bad advisers By Erick Posted in 2008 — Obama really is a change from a typical politician, ain't he? He surrounds himself with Ms. Powers who calls Hillary names and undermines Obama's own policy stances. He surrounds himself with men like Reverend Wright who preach on the separation in this country between black and white and how white people want to infect black people with AIDS. He's also surrounded himself with Penny Pritzker as his national finance chairwoman. bama's national finance chairwoman, Penny Pritzker, was chairwoman of the board of a Chicago-area...

Generation Rescue "In light of the recent Hannah Poling decision, in which the federal court conceded that vaccines could have contributed to her autism, we think the tide is finally turning in the direction of parents like us who have been shouting concerns from our rooftops for years." Jenny McCarthy and Jim Carrey are actors and parents actively involved in autism-related causes. McCarthy is the author of the book Louder Than Words: A Mother's Journey in Healing Autism. Go here to read the whole editorialI have to applaud Jenny McCarthy for her tenacity. Her much needed voice has blasted through...

Oh Holiest of Holies, Hallowed be thy Blessed Name. No mere mortal, especially EVIL Republicans are worthy enough to allow your name to pass from their lips. Even writing it I feel compelled to spell it as B*r*ck *b*m*. If you think I am exaggerating about the awe in which the DUmmies hold the sacred name of Barack Obama, think again as you can see from the very title of this DUmmie THREAD, "Is it just me, or do you also get pissed when you hear McCain say Obama's name?" The reverence of this thread is also reflected in...
