Apple wowed the world with its iPhone X. Now it's Samsung's turn. The South Korean electronics giant on Sunday will unveil its latest phone, the Galaxy S9, at its Unpacked event at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain. Samsung's invitation for the launch featured the number nine -- for the name of the device -- as well as the teaser, "The Camera. Reimagined." The Galaxy S series is Samsung's most important product line. If you own an Android phone, the odds are pretty high that it bears a Samsung logo. Last year, about one out of every...

Malwarebytes first discovered the malware when investigating a separate campaign late last month. Specifically, the team was testing a malvertising chain on Windows and Chrome that would lead to tech support scams, but when they tested the same chain on Android, they were “redirected via a series of hops to that cryptomining page.” The page in question features a warning message and a CAPTCHA code. Until the user enters the code, the website will proceed to mine Monero cryptocurrency (XMR) at full speed. Malwarebytes found several identical domains, all of which use the same CAPTCHA code. The first was registered...

"We expect a meaningful guide lower when the company reports on Thursday night, on the order of $5 to $6 billion compared to consensus revenue estimates," Long says. While the global iPhone user base is still growing, Long says users are keeping their devices longer, a trend that could continue in 2018 if the next model iPhones are not particularly impressive. He also says Apple may finally be losing its iPhone pricing power. "Following 10 years where [average selling prices] have generally moved higher, we believe prices will plateau as with the rest of the industry," Long says. BMO has...

Only Intel machines are affected by Meltdown Details have emerged on two major processor security flaws this week, and the industry is scrambling to issue fixes and secure machines for customers. Dubbed “Meltdown” and “Spectre,” the flaws affect nearly every device made in the past 20 years. The Meltdown flaw only affects Intel processors, and researchers have already released proof of concept code that could lead to attacks using Meltdown. The vulnerabilities allow an attacker to compromise the privileged memory of a processor by exploiting the way processes run in parallel. They also allow an attacker to use JavaScript code...

"Today we look at the reason why hackers always prefer Linux over Mac, Windows, and other operating systems. You may have your own reasons for choosing Linux but what do hackers really look forward to while working with Linux."

ItÂ’s almost hard to believe that in under a century, computers have advanced from occupying hundreds of square feet, to fitting into the palm of your hand. Even wilder is that the tiny machinery in a smartphone can process far more data, far more quickly than the behemoths of old. DonÂ’t spend too much time marveling at the advances of the past, however, because the future is only going to get more wild. Among the most exciting things coming to smartphones soon is QualcommÂ’s Snapdragon 845, a mighty chip that will enable the next generation of mobile devices to do...

Image Source: Zach Epstein, BGR The A11 Bionic moniker may admittedly be nothing more than a marketing gimmick, but Apple’s next-gen processor is nothing short of a monster. In the days leading up to and following Apple’s iPhone media event, the iPhone 8 Geekbench 4 scores from Primate Labs’ Geekbench test were truly jarring. So while iOS and Android have arguably come close to reaching feature-parity in recent years, the overall system performance provided by Apple’s custom-designed A-x processors continues to leave Android handsets in the dust.In fact, with Apple’s new flagship iPhone models running more than 50% faster than...

Pre-installed Trojan in Cheap Android Devices Steal Data, Intercept Chats Android devices are one of the most vulnerable mobile OS (operating systems) due to its open source nature. But what would a user do if their device is delivered to them with a pre-installed malware? Well, Let’s talk about that. IT security researchers at Dr. Web, a Russian cyber security firm has discovered that a number of Android devices including Leagoo M8, Leagoo M5 Plus, Nomu S20 and Nomu S10 have a malicious program built into the firmware. Dubbed Triada by researchers the Trojan is embedded in the Zygote component’s...

Why it matters to you New mobile malware pops up all the time, and it's as important as ever to be wary of the apps you download.Every week or so, there’s a new form of Android malware discovered that works in a unique way from what’s come before. Fortunately, in most cases, Google and third-party security experts identify the offenders before they do any serious damage. Kaspersky has just discovered one such Trojan, called Dvmap, located in an unassuming game on the Google Play Store called Colourblock with an unprecedented tactic — it injects code into the Android system library.According...

According to Dan Scavino, White House Director of Social Media, President Trump has now switched from some random unsecured Android phone (possibly a Samsung Galaxy model) to a real Apple iPhone. Apple iPhones are more secure than Android phones. In fact, earlier this month, it was reported that 36 widely-used Android devices shipped with malware preinstalled. Numerous Samsung Galaxy phones populate that list of malware-infested iPhone knockoffs. President TrumpFor years on Twitter, the 45th president extolled the Samsung’s large phone displays in the years when Apple hadn’t yet made — and was, frankly, years late — to making iPhones with larger...

ANY sufficiently advanced technology, noted Arthur C. Clarke, a British science-fiction writer, is indistinguishable from magic. The fast-emerging technology of voice computing proves his point. Using it is just like casting a spell: say a few words into the air, and a nearby device can grant your wish. The Amazon Echo, a voice-driven cylindrical computer that sits on a table top and answers to the name Alexa, can call up music tracks and radio stations, tell jokes, answer trivia questions and control smart appliances; even before Christmas it was already resident in about 4% of American households. Voice assistants are...

A hacking group linked to the Russian government and high-profile cyber attacks against Democrats likely used a malware implant on Android devices to track and target Ukrainian artillery units from late 2014 through 2016. The malware was able to retrieve communications and some locational data from infected devices, intelligence that would have likely been used to strike against the artillery in support of pro-Russian separatists fighting in eastern Ukraine. The malware used to track Ukrainian artillery units was a variant of the kind used to hack into the Democratic National Committee. [a nice multi-use malware, almost like the Swiss knife]...

By infecting a Tesla owner's phone with Android malware, a car thief can hack and then steal a Tesla car, security researchers have revealed this week. Previous attempts to hack Tesla cars attacked the vehicle's on-board software itself. This is how Chinese security researchers from Keen Lab have managed to hack a Tesla Model S last month, allowing an attacker to control a car from 12 miles away. Security experts from Norwegian security firm Promon have taken a different approach, and instead of trying complicated attacks on the car's firmware, they have chosen to go after Tesla's Android app...

More than a million Android phones are infected with Gooligan, a strain of malware Google is fighting in earnest. Cybercriminals used the spyware to steal 1.3 million Google accounts in the last four months, researchers warned. (AP Photo/Paul Sakuma) A new variant of Android malware is responsible for what’s believed to be the biggest single theft of Google accounts on record. The so-called Gooligan strain has infected as many as 1.3 million Android phones since August, completely prizing the devices open and stealing the tokens users are given to verify they are authorized to access their accounts. It’s main aim,...

New data from the Blancco Technology Group (BTG) says that 62 percent of all iOS devices suffered from software failures, compared to 47 percent of Android devices. What's more, 65 percent of iOS devices suffered crashing apps in the third quarter of 2016, more than doubling the 25 percent of Android devices that experienced the same trouble. While BTG didn't dig too deeply into why iOS might be failing more often than Android, it did point a finger at the exceedingly successful augmented reality game Pokémon Go.
