âDemocratic socialistsâ have been getting the teenage-idol treatment from giddy reporters and editors at legacy media outlets for years. Their newest crush is on the jihadi-apologist and Marxist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. In a 4,500-word cover story about the candidate, âThe Meaning of Zohran Mamdani,â Time magazine paints a caricature of a well-meaning, authentic, and not-really-so-radical go-getter. An âideologue interested in creative solutionsâ is how Time puts it. Sure, Mamdani might support genocidal rhetoric, but the Jewish community will be pleased to learn that he âoften talked about the problem of antisemitism and the need for anti-hate-crime...

Today, the U.S. Department of Education (the Department) announced it is placing Alexandria City Public Schools, Arlington Public Schools, Fairfax County Public Schools, Loudoun County Public Schools, and Prince William County Public Schools (the Divisions) in Northern Virginia on high-risk status with the condition that all federal funding flowing to these districts is done by reimbursement only. This action is being taken after all five Divisions have been found in violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX). The Department found the Divisions in violation of Title IX last month for their policies allowing students to...

Wild video shows the moment a hulking mountain lion strolled through the front door of a California home like it owned the place, before coming face-to-face with the terrified man inside. Jeff Tenney was in the kitchen of his motherâs house in La Verne, Los Angeles County, on Saturday afternoon when he found himself locking eyes with the brazen big cat. âOut of the corner of my eye, I hear and see and feel the large presence,â he told KABC. â[I] peeked around the corner of the dining room, and we locked eyes for a moment, and I knew it...

For a long time, the American economic system has been defined by the imprecise term "capitalism." The system varies in its application. When conservatives are in power, the government favors free markets and less state intervention. When liberals rule, social safety nets and regulations are given more free rein. Regardless of the application, Americaâs economic system maintains robust growth because its most important sectors favor the free market ideal. That is why America stands out economically. A Changing NarrativeThat economic narrative is now changing. State intervention is taking on a positive meaning. Populist movements see government as a political tool...

It turns out many Americans arenât great at identifying which personal decisions contribute most to climate change. A study recently published found that when asked to rank actions, such as swapping a car that uses gasoline for an electric one, carpooling or reducing food waste, participants werenât very accurate when assessing how much those actions contributed to climate change. The top three individual actions that help the climate, including avoiding plane flights, choosing not to get a dog and using renewable electricity, were also the three that participants underestimated the most. Meanwhile, the lowest-impact actions were changing to more efficient...

I love you, BUT Iâm not âin loveâ with you. You donât have to go home, BUT you canât stay here. You may continue fighting, Martial Law President Zelensky, BUT the American people wonât be following you into World War III.No matter how agreeable the first half of a sentence might sound, the âbutsâ change everything on a dime. President Trump has been clear that he wants the Russia-Ukraine War to end, but he says Zelensky must choose to end the conflict. When the war began, 73% of Ukrainians wanted to fight Russia until Ukraine secured victory, but 69% now...

In 1975, when grizzly bears in the lower 48 states were regulated as âthreatenedâ by the federal Fish and Wildlife Service of the Department of the Interior, the standard required to use deadly force against them, in defense of self and others, was unclear. In 2017 and 2021, the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit created a binding precedent that clarified the standard to be used when a person claimed defense of self and/or others against grizzly bears in the lower 48 states. The standard is different and lower than the standard to be used for self-defense against humans. From the...

Interstellar object 3I/ATLAS â which is zooming through our inner solar system â appears to be emitting its own light, according to Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb. The observation by Loeb, if verified, would contradict NASAâs classification of the Manhattan-sized object as a comet, the scientist argues in a new blog post. Loeb and a colleague analyzed photos released by NASA of the object in determining that the source of its glow is likely not from the sun. The astrophysicist wrote the âbrightness profile around 3I/ATLAS implies that the nucleus dominates the observed light.â âThe simplest interpretation is that the nucleus...

The High Court judgement granting a temporary court injunction to prevent asylum seekers from being housed at a hotel in Epping will be a political and practical headache for the government. Practically, the Home Office has less than a month to find alternative accommodation for the asylum seekers housed at the Bell Hotel. The hope â though perhaps not the expectation â is that Tuesday's judgement does not set a precedent. Epping Forest District Council has to return to court in the autumn and it is possible the temporary ban on housing asylum seekers will not be made permanent. But...

Elon Musk backtracked on his promise to remake US politics with his 'America Party' and instead plans to use his immense wealth to help JD Vance become the next president. The billionaire Tesla founder intends to shift his focus back to his companies after a tumultuous stint working with President Trump and has become wary of upsetting Republicans, according to The Wall Street Journal. Musk has decided to join other tech titans and rally behind the person they believe is the likely successor to Trump: Vice President JD Vance, who has made moves recently suggesting he will run in 2028....

Imagine correcting your vision in under a minute â no lasers, blades or pain. Scientists have developed a novel, non-invasive technique that reshapes the cornea using only a mild electric current and a temporary pH shift. In early trials, it reversed myopia without the need for traditional surgery â and could be the most radical advancement in eyesight correction technology since LASIK. This emerging method that can remodel the cornea through mild electric potential, known as electromechanical reshaping (EMR), was detailed by researchers from Occidental College and the University of California, Irvine, during the American Chemical Societyâs Fall 2025 meeting...

A Florida man repeatedly used his sprinkler system to hose down special needs children as they got on and off their school bus, police have said. Antonio Roman, 61, was arrested by deputies with Marion County Sheriff's Office after repeatedly using the sprinkler system on the family next door to him in Ocala. Officials say he intentionally activated the sprinklers twice daily, when his two victims departed for school and again when they returned. Deputies said the father of the children had to resort to wearing a swim suit to shield his children, who use wheelchairs, from the repeat behavior....

A historical US flag stolen from the grounds of a school built on the site of a former American naval base has been returned after it was recovered from a bonfire in Londonderry. The flag was taken from Foyle College on the city's Limavady Road in early July. On Monday, independent Derry City and Strabane District councillor Gary Donnelly said he believed the flag had been removed from the bonfire. Foyle College confirmed on Tuesday that the flag had now been handed back to the school. The school thanked those involved in securing the safe return of the flag.
