This would encourage more traditional, less politicized instruction in military-run public schools and boost recruitment from the most pro-America demographics.Future military officers and the children of U.S. service members may soon be able to satisfy government testing mandates with a new test that prioritizes traditional math and the Great Books. Because tests strongly influence what teachers teach, this would encourage more traditional, less politicized instruction for the 70,000 or so children attending Department of Defense, or DODEA, K-12 schools. The current Senate version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) moving through Congress would require DODEA schools to offer 11th-grade students...

Panic! Among the pink crustaceans (Patagonian lobsterette, Thymops birsteini). Image credit: ROV SuBastian/Schmidt Ocean Institute (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) ============================================================================= An offshore canyon that’s twice as deep as the Grand Canyon recently turned up 40 potential new-to-science species when scientists embarked on the first-ever high-tech dive to the region. Using the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s remotely operated vehicle, ROV SuBastian, the expedition was livestreamed as it captured alien-looking squids, Barbie-pink lobsters, and a sea star with some serious junk in the trunk, if you know what we mean. Sounds like quite the adventure, right? Well, it would seem nearly 4 million people...

President Trump called into Fox & Friends show this morning to explains some of the details within the Ukraine Peace Summit held at the White House with President Zelenskyy and European leaders. There’s some interesting insight into the urgency, held by President Trump, as he describes talking about the need to stop the killing now, not next week. President Trump notes he told the EU leadership, it is ridiculous to say meet again in a few days; thousands of people are dying each week. Trump told them they need to get into action tonight. Is Abby Grossberg: Tucker Carlson’s “Mordecai”?Tucker Carlson has long trafficked in dog whistles and culture war grievances—but his rage toward Abby Grossberg, a Jewish former Fox producer who challenged him legally, seems to cut deeper. In classic authoritarian fashion, when confronted by a credible critic, Carlson didn't just fight back—he allegedly let that grudge fester into something uglier. Like Haman targeting Mordecai in the book of Wsthet [Esther 3:4] Purim story, Carlson’s hostility toward Grossberg hints at something broader and more dangerous: when a powerful man can't take accountability, he looks for someone to blame—and too often, it’s the same...

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s social media account mimicking Donald Trump’s all-caps online posts is getting under the skin of prominent conservatives on the right. The reaction to Newsom’s pitch-perfect parody of Trump — including his wild rants, name-calling, and use of AI-generated images — is shining a light on the absurd behavior of the president of the United States, who has largely gotten a pass from his party for doing the same thing. “You have to stop it with the Twitter thing,” Fox News host Dana Perino said Monday of the potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender. “If I were his...

A groundbreaking study published in Nature has revealed that scientists at Tianjin University in China have developed a lithium metal battery (LMB) with an energy density that is twice as powerful as Tesla’s most advanced battery. The new battery can store over 600 watt-hours per kilogram (Wh/kg), a significant leap from Tesla’s top-tier battery at 300 Wh/kg. This breakthrough is expected to impact electric vehicles (EVs) and a range of applications, including drones, potentially reducing concerns about range limitations and making EVs lighter and more efficient. The development of this high-energy-density battery represents a huge advancement in the field of...

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced the revocation of 37 security clearances of current and former officials who “abused public trust by politicizing and manipulating” information — including several who were involved in a controversial, Barack Obama-ordered assessment of Russian influence in the 2016 election. An ODNI memo dated Monday announced that the more than three dozen intel professionals — including a former top aide to Obama DNI James Clapper — had either politicized or weaponized intelligence, failed to safeguard classified info or not followed tradecraft standards. “The President has directed that, effective immediately, the security clearances of the...

Virginia Tech engineers have designed an “ice slingshot” that can propel frozen disks of water across a flat, grooved surface without any external force. Previous experiments have demonstrated a similar forceless propulsion of dry ice on a layer of vapor. However, the novel ice slingshot produces a similar motion without harmful CO2. The Virginia Tech team suggests their approach could lead to the development of energy generation devices or micro-transportation systems and potentially offer unique de-icing approaches. In an email to The Debrief, Associate Professor Jonathan Boreyko from Virginia Tech’s School of Mechanical Engineering explained the process relies on a...

Disruptive innovation in K-12 education. When we hear the word entrepreneur, many of us think of Silicon Valley stars like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Peter Thiel, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and others who have created sprawling, successful companies whose products and services seep into our everyday lives. These entrepreneurs may be household names, but they are more the exception than the rule. Everyday entrepreneurs—the ordinary people launching and leading small businesses—form the backbone of the US economy. According to the US Small Business Administration (SBA), small businesses account for more than 99.9 percent of all American companies, employing more than sixty...

A man was arrested on a charge of resisting and obstructing an officer after police say he refused to cooperate with officers during a traffic stop in Dundee, Michigan. The circumstances began about 3:15 p.m. Saturday near the Golf Ridge subdivision in the village. Dundee Police Officer Josh Stump made a traffic stop for a vehicle that did not have a registration plate, and asked the 54-year-old driver for his driver's license and registration. But according to the Dundee police report, the man refused to follow directions, insisting that he was "traveling," not "driving." He also claimed to be a...

In A Nutshell Scientists built a nine-microbe “synthetic community” that reproduced the key flavor traits of fine chocolate during controlled lab fermentations. Cocoa liquors produced with this starter showed sensory profiles similar to premium chocolate from Madagascar, distinct from bulk chocolate references. While promising, the study was limited to Colombian beans and lab conditions, meaning large-scale or global applications still need validation. ========================================================================== NOTTINGHAM, England — Chocolate lovers, here’s something sweet to chew on: scientists have taken a major step toward unraveling the mystery of what makes some bars taste rich and complex while others fall completely flat. The secret,...

Testing on frozen shrimp from the distributor, Indonesia's BMS Foods, also tested positive, the FDA said.

Work has begun to lay the underwater cable for the first electricity interconnector between Ireland and mainland Europe. It marks a major milestone in the €1.6 billion ($1.9 billion) Celtic Interconnector project, which will link the electricity grids of Ireland and France to ensure security of power supply. A specialist marine vessel Calypso, from Norway, has begun cable-laying along an 84-km (52-mile) section of the route. Once fully installed, the entire 575-km (357-mile) interconnector will run from east Cork to the northwest of Brittany. It will allow for the exchange of 700 MW of electricity, enough to power some 450,000...

Three weeks. That’s how long I was separated from my daughter. No trial. No crime. No violence. Just a single sheet of paper — a Protection from Abuse Order, or PFA — a civil court order meant to prevent harm, often issued on little more than an accusation. It can strip someone of contact with his or her children, home, and firearms — without a criminal charge. That paper took my daughter away from me. I was only 23. My daughter was just a few months old. I was still learning how to be a dad — still learning the...
