People die in many ways, but in medicine there are only two reasons a person can be declared dead: Either the heart has stopped or the brain has ceased to function, even if the heart is still beating. A person may serve as an organ donor only after being declared dead. (Until then, transplant surgeons are not allowed even to interact with a dying patient.) This common-sensical rule underpins organ donation in the United States and many other countries. Most donor organs today are obtained after brain death, defined by most state laws as a condition of permanent unconsciousness...

US President Donald Trump said on July 31 that Russia’s actions in Ukraine were “disgusting” and indicated that new sanctions against Moscow were coming over its invasion of its neighbour. “Russia – I think it’s disgusting what they’re doing. I think it’s disgusting,” Mr Trump told journalists. He also said he would send his special envoy Steve Witkoff, currently in Israel, to visit Russia next. Russian President Vladimir Putin has already met Mr Witkoff multiple times in Moscow, before Mr Trump’s efforts to mend ties with the Kremlin came to a grinding halt. Washington has given Moscow until the end...

Yes, it’s good that the facts behind the Obama-era Russia collusion hoax are now coming out. But the problem is, it’s nearly a decade late & the facts are way too confusing for people to process, which means no one really notices anyway. And that was of course the calculated bet of the perpetrators in the first place.

Constitution Party National Committee Chair Justin Magill issued a message this month urging supporters to use the 2025 off-cycle to expand local organizing and strengthen state affiliates, while briefly outlining efforts already underway in some areas. In a letter published last Friday, Magill urged the party to treat the off-year as an opportunity to prioritize local organizing and candidate recruitment, particularly in areas where partisan competition is currently minimal or nonexistent. According to his message, Constitution Party leaders are actively focusing on contests for school board and other municipal offices, while also working to develop their county-level affiliates. “This is...

The national housing market is stuck in a post-pandemic rut. Prices and interest rates have stalled out at unaffordable highs, keeping buyers at bay. Sellers, unable to fetch the still-higher prices they want, are backing out of the market in droves. The result is a housing market stuck in molasses, with a slow down in new listings, stagnant sales and an uptick in deals cancelled at the last minute. If the country as a whole is in the middle of a housing market drought, conditions look especially parched in California. New homes listed for sale fell by more than 17%...

The great debate over Sydney Sweeney's recent denim disaster has a new participant: the White House. White House communications director Steven Cheung took to social media on Tuesday to defend Sweeney's new campaign for the clothing brand American Eagle — which has sparked backlash and accusations of racism — and slam liberals' reaction to its ads. "Cancel culture run amok," Cheung wrote of the negative response to the campaign, which included claims that the brand is glorifying a racial ideal during a fraught political time. But Cheung took things a step farther, adding, "This warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking...

Nairobi (AFP) – The party is in Kenya, but the vibe is distinctly Americana: a sea of cowboy hats and boots with a soundtrack of whisky-soaked tales about heartbreak and good ol' boys. Kenya has become the unlikely home of a growing country music scene, possibly the biggest in Africa, as testified by the thousands line-dancing in a field in the capital Nairobi this weekend for International Cowboys and Cowgirls Day The festival crowd went wild for the king of the local country scene, "Sir Elvis" Otieno, as his deep baritone belted out classics like "Take Me Home, Country Roads"...

For 150 years, Presidents, Administrations, and White House Staff have longed for a large event space on the White House complex that can hold substantially more guests than currently allowed. President Donald J. Trump has expressed his commitment to solving this problem on behalf of future Administrations and the American people. The White House is one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the world, yet the White House is currently unable to host major functions honoring world leaders and other countries without having to install a large and unsightly tent approximately 100 yards away from the main building...

The North Carolina state legislature overrode the Democrat governor’s veto of HB805, which seeks to “prevent the sexual exploitation of women and minors,” on Tuesday, passing it into law. Both the state House and the state Senate voted to override Gov. Josh Stein’s veto of the a Republican sponsored legislation that would officially “recognize two sexes in all administrative rules, regulations, or public policies adopted” by the state, prohibit state funding from going toward trans procedures, and require schools to “adopt policies” enabling parents and students to opt out of curriculum on religious grounds. According to the North Carolina Family...
