DAD, WHAT's UNABHÄNGIGKEITSTAG?"Is that when the thirteen colonies broke away from England?" My ten year inquired out of nowhere at 6 AM German time this morning. "Yeah, why do you want to know, eat your breakfast," I mumbled, too sleepy to be very curious. "Because I am afraid my teacher will ask me, since I am wearing this T-shirt and I'm the only American in the class." With an effort, I adjusted my gaze upward to his white T-shirt. It was brand new. Prominent on his breast was an image of the flag and below that:OLD NAVY FREEDOM 2005 TRADITIONWaking...

We Americans like to think of our revolution as not being radical; indeed, most of the time we consider it downright conservative. It certainly does not appear to resemble the revolutions of other nations in which people were killed, property was destroyed, and everything was turned upside down. We can think of Robespierre, Lenin, and Mao Zedong as revolutionaries, but not George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. We cannot quite conceive of revolutionaries in powdered hair and knee breeches. They made speeches, not bombs; they wrote learned pamphlets, not manifestos. They were not abstract theorists and they were not...

Eleven years ago, at the Singapore Satellite Industry Forum 2013, Richard Bowles, the Regional Sales Director for Southeast Asia at Arianespace, dismissed SpaceX... He described SpaceX as "mainly selling dreams" and limited their voice at the conference because he didn't want to hear what he deemed unrealistic. At that time, SpaceX had a vision of building reusable rockets and an ambitious goal of launching 100 times a year—a target that seemed impossible for any private or government organization in the industry. This ambition was mocked heavily, and SpaceX was dismissed as a dreamer that no one wanted to wake up....

The World Bank has upgraded Russia from an “upper-middle-income” to a “high-income” country with per-capita gross national income (GNI) totaling $14,250 in 2023. “Economic activity in Russia was influenced by a large increase in military-related activity in 2023,” the international financial institution said Monday. Russia’s move up the ranks was also boosted by growth in trade (+6.8%), the financial sector (+8.7%), and construction (+6.6%), according to the U.S.-based institution. “These factors led to increases in both real (3.6%) and nominal (10.9%) GDP, and Russia’s Atlas GNI per capita grew by 11.2%,” it said.

Following a phony document purporting to be President Trump announcing General Flynn as his running mate a series of articles followed. In these articles the General was ready to spill the goods on house Democrats who were pedophiles and a host of other filthy crimes. Approximately six articles were posted. Who and to what purpose?

Orange Is the New Black actress Lea DeLaria uploaded an intense Instagram speech calling on President Joe Biden to take advantage of the Supreme Court’s newly defined executive immunity rules and assassinate Donald Trump. DeLaria posted the video Monday in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling the former president is immune from prosecution for any “official acts” while in office. The ruling has led to speculation that a president could, in theory, assassinate a political rival and then call it an “official” act. Well, that’s what DeLaria rather provocatively called on Biden to do and likened the assassination to...

Here’s a trivia question for you. The Statue of Liberty holds a torch in one hand. What is she holding in the other? It looks like a book, in tablet form.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden’s conduct behind closed doors, in the Oval Office, on Air Force One and in meetings around the world is described in the same dual way by those who regularly see him in action. He is often sharp and focused. But he also has moments, particularly later in the evening, when his thoughts seem jumbled and he trails off mid-sentence or seems confused. Sometimes he doesn’t grasp the finer points of policy details. He occasionally forgets people’s names, stares blankly and moves slowly around the room.

Living brain cells wired into organoid-on-a-chip biocomputers can now learn to drive robots, thanks to an open-source intelligent interaction system called MetaBOC. This remarkable project aims to re-home human brain cells in artificial bodies. Biocomputing is one of the most bizarre frontiers in emerging technology, made possible by the fact that our neurons perceive the world and act on it speaking the same language as computers do – electrical signals. Human brain cells, grown in large numbers onto silicon chips, can receive electrical signals from a computer, try to make sense of them, and talk back. More importantly, they can...

It seems to be the controversial topic of the ages...only it has worsened since post-pandemic. It's the great remote work divide...also dubbed "The Great Return" and "The Great Office Return" by others. Although in theory, remote work has essentially been in existence for decades, it has only become a hot topic of late, and become aggravated even more, with the recent headline-grabbing strides of big-name employers who dared to mandate employees to return to office-based work (affectionately known as RTO)—or risk losing their jobs.

1. Vice president believes the president can no longer carry out the duties of his office. 2. A majority of the 15 cabinet members agree. 3. The VP and the cabinet write a letter [to Congress] stating their beliefs, the president loses power, and the VP becomes acting president. 4. If the president disagrees, he writes his own letter and regains power. 5. If the VP and cabinet still believe the president is unfit for duty, they have four days to send another letter. As soon as this letter is sent, the president again loses power, and the VP again...

[snip] The panic right now may be at least somewhat unique to the D.C. political bubble. Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) told HuffPost on Wednesday that his Houston office has only received 12 calls about Biden since the debate, and the sentiment was evenly split. Six callers said they wanted Biden to step aside, and six said they wanted him to stay in the race, even though it’s a district that reliably votes Democrat. “The piling on is causing a good many people that I’ve talked to to believe that President Biden is not being treated fairly,” Green said. “Everybody knows...

Democrats have a ready-made replacement if Joe Biden stands aside before November's election. She’s been vetted. Her election would be historic. And she would easily take up the Biden mantle. There's one problem: Her name is Kamala Harris and by every measure she is the most unpopular vice president in American history – and among the least likely people to defeat Donald Trump in a general election fight. But Democrats may be stuck with her anyway. 'Kamala Harris has a high name ID, which means her brand is harder to change,' said pollster James Johnson, who conducted the Mail survey....

“One of two fired scientists at the centre of an RCMP investigation into a massive security breach at Canada’s top infectious-disease laboratory in Winnipeg is working in China and collaborating with researchers from the People’s Liberation Army,” the Globe and Mail reported in February. The fired scientist is Dr. Xiangguo Qiu, someone Americans should get to know, though they may already be familiar with her work in an indirect sort of way. Already a medical doctor, Qiu obtained her Master of Science degree in immunology at Tianjin Medical University in 1990. She moved to Canada for graduate studies in 1996...

The criticism of Hamas by residents of the Gaza Strip is increasing... BBC published a video of a man injured as a result of the rescue operation of the four hostages in Operation Arnon, saying: “I’m one of you, but you are a cowardly people. We could have avoided this attack!” It was also noted that the criticism after Operation Arnon increased especially regarding the concealment of hostages within the civilian population in general and in crowded places in particular. Residents of the Gaza Strip said that they encounter more and more curses and insults against Hamas leaders on the...

Dear Friend of GATA and Gold: Our friend the Dutch gold researcher Jaco Schipper today calls attention to a May 15 report from the public broadcasting service in the Netherlands, NOS, about the government's new fortress gold vault in the town of Zeist: https://nos.nl/artikel/2475275-hoe-verplaats-je-in-het-geheim-15-miljard-aan-goudstaven-en-geld At the conclusion of the report an official of the Dutch central bank, Coen Voormeulen, makes a remark that is reminiscent of Dutch gold researcher Jan Nieuwenhuijs' reporting about the "gold revaluation accounts" maintained by some central banks: Voormeulen says of the Netherlands' 14,000 gold bars, estimated to be worth 15 billion euros: "The gold is...
