New York Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin's prospective bid for Republican National Committee leadership is resonating with party big-wigs, even though he has yet to formally announce plans to seek the post. Calls to replace current RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel have arisen follow the GOP's unexpectedly poor showing in the 2022 midterm elections. The much anticipated "red wave" failed to materialize and the Republicans managed to secure the House of Representatives by a handful of seats. "We underperformed nationally. There were strategic missteps," said Republican Party of Texas Chairman Matt Rinaldi to the New York Post on Thursday. Rinaldi, in turn,...

Giving patients excess levels of oxygen during surgery is associated with a higher risk of subsequent kidney, heart, and lung injury, finds a large U.S. study. Although the absolute risk remains low, this study suggests it is time to reconsider the liberal use of oxygen during general anesthesia, say experts in a linked editorial. Oxygen is routinely given to almost all patients undergoing surgery with general anesthesia to help prevent hypoxia (dangerously low oxygen levels), and the World Health Organization recommends liberal use of oxygen to reduce the risk of infection. During surgery, arterial blood hemoglobin oxygen saturation (SpO2) is...

The relentless attacks on Elon Musk since he purchased Twitter should be familiar to most Americans. It’s exactly what Democrats and their media and corporate allies did to demonize Donald Trump. The McCarthyite formula is simple: Claim you are defending high-minded principles (Democracy! The rule of law! Civil discourse!) to justify efforts to delegitimize someone you’ve identified as a political opponent. Democrats denied Trump’s presidency from day one; Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden themselves declared for years that he had stolen the 2016 election. In the name of election integrity, Democrats turned a bogus conspiracy theory cooked up by Clinton’s...

New York, NY (November 30, 2022) Past social trauma is encoded by a population of stress/threat-responsive brain cells that become hyperactivated during subsequent interaction with non-threatening social targets. As a consequence, previously rewarding social targets are now perceived as social threats, which promotes generalized social avoidance and impaired social reward processing that can contribute to psychiatric disorders, according to a study conducted by researchers at the Brain and Body Research Center at Mount Sinai and published November 30 in Nature. In humans, studies have shown that social trauma impairs brain reward function to the extent that social interaction is no...

A pilot, "look-back" study of information about 106 patients with "wet" age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has revealed that nearly half of patients treated with aflibercept could safely stop eye injection therapy after one year without further vision loss. Only 17% of patients taking another commonly used wet AMD therapy, bevacizumab, were able to safely wean from the drug at a year. The findings build on evidence from a previous study that found potentially a third of patients with wet AMD could safely pause therapy after one year of monitoring by a physician. "Our results suggest that many patients with macular...

Herbert Stothart quotes this old tune in his film scores frequently. It can be heard at the 17 minute mark here from The Human Comedy: https://youtu.be/t2edLTD9rWY?t=1020 or at the 1 hour 29 minute mark on Men of Boys Town https://ok.ru/video/287229414051 My taste for playing sentimental pieces like this has increased in the last 3 years along with Waltzing Matilda and Ah Leave Me Not To Pine from Pirates of Penzance. It was in a 'best of piano' songbook I had at one time but it's long gone. Can you help me find the title of this song?

Guangzhou in the south, Shijiazhuang in the north, Chengdu in the southwest and other major cities announced they were easing testing requirements and controls on...
