The new policy is designed to close a loophole in the ACA known as the “family glitch” that’s prevented an estimated 5 million people from qualifying for subsidized health plans — even when they can’t find affordable coverage elsewhere. Biden administration officials are expected to unveil the proposed regulation ahead of a celebration of the landmark 2010 health law that will also mark former President Barack Obama’s return to the White House for the first time since he left office. Democrats and health advocacy groups have long pushed for a fix to the family glitch, which locked certain Americans out...

"Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet." "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should...

For the past century people with weak hearts have been told to lower their salt intake, but until now there has been little scientific evidence behind the recommendation. The largest randomized clinical trial to look at sodium reduction and heart failure reported results in The Lancet, and the findings were mixed. Though reducing salt intake did not lead to fewer emergency visits, hospitalizations or deaths for patients with heart failure, the researchers did find an improvement in symptoms such as swelling, fatigue and coughing, as well as better overall quality of life. "We can no longer put a blanket recommendation...

FIFTH WEEK OF LENT JOHN 8:12-20 Friends, in our Gospel today, Jesus announces who he is: “I am the light of the world.” In John’s Gospel there are a series of “I am” statements: “I am the bread of life”; “I am the good shepherd”; “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” And here he issues another of those powerful claims: “I am the light.” Christianity is, above all, a way of seeing. Everything else in Christian life flows from and circles around the transformation of vision. Christians see differently, and that is why their prayer, their worship,...

RENO, Nev. (AP) — In a rare emergency move, the U.S government temporarily declared a northern Nevada toad endangered Monday, saying a geothermal power plant in the works could result in its extinction. The Fish and Wildlife Service announced it is formally proposing a rule to list the Dixie Valley toad as an endangered species subject to 60 days of public comment under the Endangered Species Act’s normal rulemaking process. But it said the emergency listing goes into effect immediately and will continue for eight months while more permanent protections are considered for the toad at the only place it...

It’s not the end of the world. It only seems that way. Climate change is going to get worse, but as gloomy as the latest scientific reports are, including today’s from the United Nations, scientist after scientist stresses that curbing global warming is not hopeless. The science says it is not game over for planet Earth or humanity. Action can prevent some of the worst if done soon, they say. After decades of trying to get the public’s attention, spur action by governments and fight against organized movements denying the science, climate researchers say they have a new fight on...

President Joe Biden has consistently struggled with anger outbursts when peppered with unwanted questions — especially questions about the Biden family corruption. All throughout the presidential campaign and into his presidency, Biden has consistently used anger in an attempt to dispel questions he does not want to answer. According the Republican National Committee’s research team on Monday, Biden has leveraged his defensive anger at least five times when questioned about his family’s business dealings.

Individuals along with economy-wide efficiencies can make a major difference in the drive to avert the worst of global warming, UN climate experts say, estimating that sharp cuts to demand for energy-guzzling services could slash emissions up to 70 percent by 2050. You can change an internal combustion engine car to an electric one ("improve"), or even "shift" your daily commute to cycling or walking. The biggest potential for avoidance is reducing long-haul flights. If people took fewer long distance flights and took the train where possible, overall aviation emissions could be reduced by 10 to 40 percent by 2040....

Humanity has less than three years to halt the rise of planet-warming carbon pollution, UN climate experts warned Monday, with any delay to peak greenhouse gas emissions likely to result in smashing through warming targets. The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said emissions have to peak before 2025 and drop sharply to keep even the more conservative Paris treaty warming goal of two degrees Celsius in play. "We are at a crossroads," said IPCC chief Hoesung Lee. "The decisions we make now can secure a liveable future. We have the tools and know-how required to limit warming." Reports from...

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal mass shooting early Sunday morning in Sacramento, California. The shooting, which is the deadliest in the city's history, killed six people and left at least twelve others wounded. The Sacramento Police Department said it arrested 26-year-old Dandre Martin and charged him with assault and illegal firearm possession following an overnight investigation. Police described him as a "related suspect," but did not offer any additional detail about his alleged involvement. Police previously said at least two people opened fire in the downtown district as people streamed out of closing bars. Video...

Research into the way humans came to enjoy alcohol in the manner that we do is an interesting area of evolutionary science, with some suggesting its roots can be traced back millions of years. One school of thought is that apes and monkeys were lured toward fermenting fruit due to its high nutritional value, and new analysis of urine samples of these so-called "drunken monkeys" offers first-of-a-kind evidence that they actually metabolize the ethanol within it. The discovery stems from the long-running work of biologist Robert Dudley, who has been pondering the relationship between humans and alcohol for more than...

“I guarantee you, we are going to end fossil fuel,” said then-candidate Joe Biden, declaring war on domestic energy producers. Now, 14 months into his presidency, the budgets of Americans and small businesses are being squeezed by record-high gas prices and historic levels of inflation. Before Biden's crusade against domestic energy, businesses enjoyed low gas prices thanks to Republican policies that prioritized energy independence. In fact, during the Trump administration, the U.S. became the world’s number one producer of oil and strengthened our lead as one of the top natural gas producers. Our energy exports reached an all-time high, marking...

The House on Wednesday passed the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement, or MORE Act, which removes cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act and requires courts to expunge convictions of nonviolent marijuana offenders. It passed by a vote of 220-204. Its chances of success are far slimmer in the Senate, where it would need the support of all 50 Democrats and at least 10 Republicans to pass. Democrats in the Senate are actually working on their own similar bill, the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act, which is expected to be introduced near the end of April. Three-quarters of US states have...

On Thursday, March 24, the Russian government held a press conference in which it presented evidence that Hunter Biden, the disgraced son of American president Joe Biden, helped to finance bioweapons research in Ukraine. Hunter’s untoward activity took place in 2014. The proof comes from emails and other forms of communication found on Hunter Biden’s laptop, which he recklessly abandoned in a computer repair shop in Delaware in 2019. When Hunter was facilitating bioweapons research in Ukraine, his father, Joe Biden, served as vice president of the United States. Because of his background in foreign affairs, Joe Biden was tasked...

Mark this date on your calendar: April 14. Circle it and highlight it, not just this year, but every year. I’ll explain why in a moment, but let me say this first: Together, we can make history. Together, we can send a message. Together, we can help turn the tide. Together, we can overcome cancel culture and push back against the silencing of the lambs. Together, we can – and will – be heard. But what’s so special about April 14? Right now, there’s nothing of particular significance about that day in America, other than the fact that it’s one...

Following the enactment of Florida's anti-grooming law, Apple is reportedly sending its lobbyists into states passing similar pro-parental rights legislations in an attempt to stop the bills or overturn them. According to recent reporting by Politico, one of the world's most valuable companies is working with policymakers and advocacy groups across the country to strategize and file court briefs against laws they say infringe LGBTQ rights. An email recovered by Politico reveals how senior leadership within Apple's corporate structure has pushed to use the company's resources to advocate against these types of laws. Following the passage of a transgender investigation...
