No obituary for Earth: Scientists fight climate doom talk
The Associated Press ^ | April 4, 2022 | By SETH BORENSTEIN (D-AP)

It’s not the end of the world. It only seems that way.

Climate change is going to get worse, but as gloomy as the latest scientific reports are, including today’s from the United Nations, scientist after scientist stresses that curbing global warming is not hopeless. The science says it is not game over for planet Earth or humanity. Action can prevent some of the worst if done soon, they say.

After decades of trying to get the public’s attention, spur action by governments and fight against organized movements denying the science, climate researchers say they have a new fight on their hands: doomism. It’s the feeling that nothing can be done, so why bother. It’s young people publicly swearing off having children because of climate change.

Sorry, according to the best and brightest we all died 30 years ago.

And again 20 years ago.

And again 10 years ago.

Earth will survive long after humans are gone. George Carlin did a great routine on the subject.

Never let a crisis go to waste, and the best kind of crises are ones that you make up because nobody can disprove anything.

If they want to do something about fossil fuels then their first targets are China and India. However it’s far safer to virtue signal on TikTok from a phone in the basement in the USA or Canada or Europe.

AP announces sweeping climate journalism initiative

Feb. 15, 2022

The Associated Press announced today it will significantly expand its climate coverage, creating a standalone desk that will enhance the global understanding of climate change and its impact across the world.

The initiative will infuse the global media landscape with a new stream of quality climate journalism through both AP content and in-depth training and collaboration directly with AP’s thousands of customers worldwide.

The news agency will also launch an AP StoryShare network for climate coverage, allowing news organizations to share their content with one another and in turn provide more robust coverage for their audiences.

The expansion is supported by several philanthropic organizations, including the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Quadrivium and The Rockefeller Foundation. AP retains complete editorial control of all content.

“Unbiased, fact-based journalism has never been more important or imperiled,” said Larry Kramer, president of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. “The Associated Press has, for over a century, played a crucial role reporting on the most pressing issues of our time, including climate change. The climate initiative will build on AP’s legacy of independent journalism and help millions better understand the impact of the climate crisis and counter climate-related misinformation.”

To show your commitment to saving the earth put a plastic bag over your head so that you are not adding to the menace of CO2.

There are two big questions:

1) Is global happening
2) is it a bad thing

People very rarely talk about the second one. The Earth getting warmer will cause longer growing seasons and more rain. Overall it will be great for farmers, and thus for the population.

Climate has been in a constant state of change since the earth was created.

I live 60 miles inland from he Atlantic ocean. Farmers around here occasionally plow up sea shells. Last year one claimed he found an old conch shell in his field. In other words, my house was once at the bottom of the ocean.

We’ve been hearing this for 50 years and nothing happens...
And another thing, what is global warming and what is it that we need to cut back on?

You know that "hundred year flood" in Germany last year? I was stationed in Germany from 77-81, lived in Traben-Trarbach, a beautiful town along the Mosel.

Don't remember the exact year, had to be '78 or '79, but I do remember another "100 year flood" that hit the region. I had a great view of it from my apartment on the other side of the river. The west side of town was flooded, to at least 40-50 feet over the bank.

How can you have two "hundred year floods" less than 50 years apart?
