Former President Donald Trump on Friday called on Mitch McConnell to resign as Senate Minority Leader for supporting President Joe Biden's $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, which passed Congress earlier this month. McConnell, a Kentucky Republican who voted for the bill and drew Trump's ire, trumpeted the sweeping plan as "good for the country" and even attempted to give the Senate credit for its passage. "It's not infrastructure and we had 19 Republicans voting for it. What a shame. But Mitch McConnell gave this. That guy should resign as the leader," Trump said in a Black Friday interview on Fox...

Continuing a tradition that’s been going on since 2003, dictionary publisher Merriam-Webster announced their “Word of the Year” for 2021 this week. Another tradition they seem to be following is an attempt to stir up as much controversy and angst as possible by choosing a word that’s bound to get under the skin (pun intended) of as many people as possible so everyone will talk about their selection. So it will likely not come as much of a surprise that they selected “vaccine” for this year’s honors. Now all of the people who are debating on both sides of the...

Congress is only a couple of weeks away from hitting the Dec. 15 deadline to raise the federal debt limit, and Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) don’t appear to be anywhere close to a deal. Democrats insist that Schumer will not burn up a week of Senate floor time to use the budget reconciliation process to raise the debt limit with only Democratic votes. And Republicans say there’s no way that McConnell will be able to round up 10 Republican votes to quash an expected filibuster from conservatives such as Sen. Ted Cruz...

A convicted killer who used a narwhal tusk to help bring down the London Bridge terrorist has spoken about the attack as well as his 'deep regret' for a murder that saw him locked up for life. Steve Gallant, 43, chased and helped pin down jihadist knifeman Usman Khan, 28, during the 2019 terror incident. The terrorist killed graduates Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones at the event in Fishmonger's Hall before running out onto London Bridge. Gallant was jailed for 17 years in 2005 for the murder of Barrie Jackson in Hull and was attending a rehabilitation event when fellow...

A new era of abortion acceptance has begun, and, typical of the abortion industry, it has to do with money. In several places across the United States, cities have begun to offer bereavement time off for abortions—meaning that men and women are now being compensated and given days off for killing their child. This new policy has popped up in cities like Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Portland, Oregon. In both Pittsburgh and Portland, city workers can get up to three days of fully paid bereavement leave off following a loss of pregnancy—and abortion is included as an eligible “loss” of pregnancy...

Democrats they may wish they could just send Kamala Harris to a convent. Since they can’t, however, they may instead send her to the Supreme Court. The issue? “DEMOCRAT strategists are said to be mightily alarmed by recent polls showing that Kamala Harris is the most unpopular US Vice-President six months into an administration since the 1970s, according to YouGov, wrote The Conservative Woman in August in the piece “There’s something about Kamala”

Prosecutors asked the US Supreme Court to review the ruling that overturned Bill Cosby’s conviction, arguing in a petition Monday that a decision announced in a press release does not give a defendant lifetime immunity. Prosecutors said the ruling could set a dangerous precedent if convictions are overturned over dubious closed-door deals. They have also complained that the chief judge of the state’s high court appeared to misstate key facts of the case when he discussed the court ruling that overturned Cosby’s conviction in a television interview. “This decision as it stands will have far-reaching negative consequences beyond Montgomery County...

The White House on Monday canceled a speech scheduled for President Joe Biden — 15 minutes before it was planned to begin. “The President will no longer deliver remarks following his meeting with CEOs,” the White House informed reporters at 3:28 p.m. The White House said the president would speak about supply chain disruptions on Wednesday as an official told reporters that Biden “wanted to ensure ample time spent with the business leaders who traveled to the White House today.” Biden was expected to speak after meeting with retail and grocery company CEOs to discuss supply disruptions ahead of the...

The holidays are a welcome reminder of the things we are grateful for—and for the power of service on behalf of those who are less fortunate. The Salvation Army mission statement clearly outlines the nature of our service: to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The beliefs that motivate our service are based solely on the Bible, and that will never change. But although we remain committed to serving everyone in need—regardless of their beliefs, backgrounds, or lifestyle—some individuals and groups have recently attempted to mislabel our organization to serve their...

Norway’s revenues from oil and gas production hit a record high this year and are showing no signs of slowing down Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre believes that a total end to oil exploration and production would harm the transition to renewable alternatives in a world still so reliant on oil and gas. He stated, "If we were to say from one day to the other that we close down production from the Norwegian shelf, I believe that would put a stop to an industrial transition that is needed to succeed in the momentum towards net zero . ....

Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson of Texas dismissed the new COVID-19 Omicron strain as Democrats' bid to 'cheat' in the upcoming 2022 midterm elections in a controversial tweet he posted Saturday. 'Here comes the MEV - the Midterm Election Variant! They NEED a reason to push unsolicited nationwide mail-in ballots,' wrote the lawmaker who served as the personal doctor to Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump. 'Democrats will do anything to CHEAT during an election - but we're not going to let them!'

Nowhere is the wait for repairs in city public housing more desperate than at the Castle Hill Houses in The Bronx — the number of open work orders for residents there has ballooned to more than 11,000 in recent months. The repair request backlog at the sprawling four-block NYCHA development has grown by more than 26 percent over the last year as NYCHA failed to keep up with deteriorating conditions in the complex’s 2,000 apartments. It’s the biggest backlog for any single development across the entire system of public housing in the Big Apple, which has more than 280 complexes,...

The Salvation Army has withdrawn its controversial "Let's Talk About ... Racism" guide following criticism and donor backlash over the text that asked white supporters of the charity group to deliver "sincere" apologies for their race and the past sins of the Church. As a result of some of the guide's more extreme positions becoming public, donors and supporters across the country have been rescinding their support of the organization. In a statement titled "The Salvation Army's Response to False Claims on the Topic of Racism," the 156-year-old organization denies that the purpose of the guide or subsequent discussions revolving...

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday urged every New Yorker to again wear masks in all indoor public places as city health officials prepared for the imminent arrival of the Omicron variant. “It’s time to remind people and double down and say, ‘Even if you started to move away from masks before, we’re telling you to get those masks back on now,’ ” de Blasio said at a remote press briefing from City Hall. City Health Commissioner David Chokshi said the advisory covers even fully vaccinated people and those who have had the virus. “Today I’m issuing a commissioner’s advisory...

President Biden on Monday met with 10 CEOs from major retailers and grocers to discuss the holiday shopping season, touting the success of last week's Black Friday sales. “Consumer spending has recovered to where it was headed before the pandemic. Early estimates are that Black Friday sales were up nearly a third since last year and in-store sales were up by even more than that,” Biden said. Eight CEOs sat at the table with Biden, including Best Buy's Corie Barry, Samsung's KS Choi and Kroger's Rodney McMullen, with others joining virtually. Brian Deese, director of the National Economic Council, and...

Another of grandfather Jack Bell's stories. This one is about a 1902 gunfight grandfather was in at the bottom of a mine. Later on he was, at various times, a game warden, Deputy Sheriff of Gunnison County, Colorado and Deputy Sheriff of Verdi, Nevada. The quotes in the story come from testimonials put out to get people to buy stock in his 1906 Jack Bell Gold Mining Company when he started a gold rush in Buckskin, Nevada.

Patients who survived COVID-19 have such strong natural immunity that their chance of reinfection or serious side effects is minimal, according to a new study published in The New England Journal of Medicine. The study conducted by researchers in Qatar reviewed global databases for 353,000 coronavirus patients who were infected between Feb. 28, 2020 and April 28, 2021. The researchers excluded about 87,500 people who were vaccinated, and found of the remaining population only 1,304 got reinfected, with none requiring ICU hospitalization. “Reinfections had 90% lower odds of resulting in hospitalization or death than primary infections,”the researchers said. “…Reinfections were...
