Explanation: Do you see the bat? It haunts this cosmic close-up of the eastern Veil Nebula. The Veil Nebula itself is a large supernova remnant, the expanding debris cloud from the death explosion of a massive star. While the Veil is roughly circular in shape and covers nearly 3 degrees on the sky toward the constellation of the Swan (Cygnus), NGC 6995, known informally as the Bat Nebula, spans only 1/2 degree, about the apparent size of the Moon. That translates to 12 light-years at the Veil's estimated distance, a reassuring 1,400 light-years from planet Earth. In the composite of...

They never give up. The finger waggers who know what is good for the rest of us; the epidemiologists trying to intimidate us with their seemingly terrifying but actually rather trivial models of applied mathematics. The vested interests in the NHS creating excuses for the inefficiencies inherent in the system. If we already have restrictive measures, we need more. If we don’t have them, we need to be introducing them right now, or preferably yesterday. Like a stopped clock, their admonishments and predictions are occasionally correct. But for the most part, they are not.

Ah, Thanksgiving. A chance for the family to come together to eat food, watch football (or see whatever’s on TBS when the Lions game is on — I bet it’s Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation), and give thanks to Mike Lindell for exposing the biggest criminal cover-up in American, nay, world history. After many, uh, trial runs, the MyPillow CEO has been talking up November 25 as the day that the Supreme Court will convene to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. In fact, while you’re stuffing the turkey, Lindell will be holding a multi-day “marathon” broadcast in...

California State Parks will be doing more than a week of prescribed burns at Wilder Ranch State Park in Santa Cruz. The burns will take place between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. starting Wednesday, Oct. 27, and will run through Friday, Nov. 5. Proactive monitoring and patrol will continue throughout the burns. The burns are not only to reduce wildfire risk, but to enhance the health of the grassland by removing dead brush, leaves, and roots, which will, in turn, restore essential nutrients to the soil. People throughout Monterey Bay can expect to see smoke lingering until the burns are...

An ideologically-aligned cabal of people in various agencies of the federal government are working together to shut parents down.. a war on parents and every part of the government is getting involved. The latest front began with a letter from the National School Board Association ... the NSBA compared concerned parents speaking up at school board meetings to "domestic terrorists" and called for the "U.S. Departments of Justice, Education, and Homeland Security," the FBI, "including any technical assistance necessary from, and state and local coordination with, its National Security Branch and Counterterrorism Division" to step in .. using the Patriot...

Just two months ago, Florida was experiencing the worst COVID-19 surge in the United States. The Sunshine State had the highest seven-day average of cases per day as well as the highest hospitalization rate in the country. Despite these grim metrics, Governor Ron DeSantis did not issue new lockdowns, closures or stay-at-home orders, arguing that the spike was due to a seasonal pattern of the virus and urging residents to get vaccinated.

I'm curious why my new post that referenced an article about "racial audits" was suddenly pulled without a stated reason. I not only wasted time filling in all the required fields but also wasted more time posting a somewhat lengthy comment regarding the referenced article. Before pulling a new topic, wouldn't it be better to embargo (instead of delete) the new post and send a notification so the OP can fix the new topic for re-posting? Just a thought.

Local Virginia TV stations including ABC, CBS and NBC have refused to air an ad depicting sexually explicit materials that are widely available to students in school libraries in the state, citing federal law which prohibits airing pornographic images. “It’s shocking that images, and even some words, that federal law prohibits TV stations to share with adults are the same images being shared with Virginia students with no accountability,” said Victoria Coley, vice president of communications at Independent Women’s Voice (IWV), which created the ad. The 30-second ad, titled “Worth 1,000 Words,” includes a full screen spread from Gender Queer...

The majority of those who are considered “fully vaccinated” are still wearing masks the bulk of the time when outside their homes, a Yahoo! News/YouGov survey released this week found. As the Biden Administration and public health officials continue to push for mass vaccinations, originally pitching them as the way to return to pre-pandemic life, a majority of people, including a majority of the vaccinated, are still wearing masks “always” or “most of the time” when outside their home.

MIT professor emeritus and political activist Noam Chomsky said he believes that while unvaccinated people have the right to refuse a COVID jab, they should “have the decency to isolate” from the community for the safety of others. Chomsky was asked in an interview whether the COVID vaccine should be required when he made the remark. A clip of his response has garnered 1.9 million views on Twitter and been met with mixed reactions. “People who refuse to accept vaccines, I think the right response for them is not to force them to, but rather to insist that they be...

Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) wore a “Let’s Go Brandon” mask on the House floor Monday. “Let’s Go Brandon” has become a viral anti-President Joe Biden saying following a recent NASCAR race, where an NBC reporter claimed fans were cheering on the race winner, Brandon Brown, when they were actually chanting “F*** Joe Biden.” “Spotted at House votes: GOP Rep. Jeff Duncan of SC wearing a mask with a phrase that Republicans are using in place of F*** Joe Biden,” tweeted POLITICO reporter Olivia Beavers. Duncan posted a mask emoji after politicos started to report on his anti-Biden mask. In South...
