Willful arguments are gaining favor today over rational ones, as revealed by the clamor to provide “affirmative” support to those making transgender claims. Despite the given character of one’s sexual makeup, with its biological intelligibility and its natural place in every individual’s life, American culture has become ever more open to the idea that a person’s sex is mostly a matter of what he or she wants it to be. Specifically, the champions of the transgender campaign rest their arguments on an essentially solipsistic view (“my truth”) that endorses the individual’s will, sense, or sentiments rather than on what is...

A government study finds mask mandates are ineffective. According to the analysis, mask mandates did not reduce deaths, patients hospitalized in either intensive care or regular hospital beds or ventilator use. Mask mandates also did not reduce number of Covid-19 positive patients. The study was conducted by scientists from the US Army Institute of Surgical Research and the Brooke Army Medical Center, JBSA Fort Sam Houston, Texas, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, the Madigan Army Medical Center, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington, the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado, and the...

I was surprised to open today's paper and find a full-page ad from World Business Chicago, encouraging Texas businesses to move to the windy city. The ad lists three things Chicago believes in, namely:Every person's right to vote, Protecting reproductive rights, and Science to fight COVID-19. There is no publicly available source for the ad that I'm aware of, but will attempt to post an image of it in the thread below.

On his first day as in the White House, Joe Biden signed an executive order giving OSHA broad power to regulate health and safety in the workplace, particularly regarding COVID-19. At the time, it was thought that OSHA would enforce face coverings in the workplace. On Thursday, President Biden announced that companies with more than 100 employees are required to make certain that all employees are vaccinated or have a weekly negative COVID test. This broad power may indeed be unconstitutional, but OSHA is ideally suited to try to enforce the mandate. Most people know that OSHA creates detailed rules...

Al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri appeared in a new video marking the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, attacks, months after rumors spread that he was dead. The SITE Intelligence Group that monitors jihadist websites said the video was released Saturday. In it, al-Zawahri said that “Jerusalem Will Never be Judaized,” and praised al-Qaida attacks including one that targeted Russian troops in Syria in January. SITE said al-Zawahri also noted the U.S. military's withdrawal from Afghanistan after 20 years of war. It added that his comments do not necessarily indicate a recent recording, as the withdrawal agreement with the Taliban was...

Will utilize ‘multidisciplinary crisis teams’ A recent report from the University of California system laid out the future plans for policing across the public university campuses. The public university system plans to “reconfigure and/or reallocate existing resources to fund and sustain the tiered response model” which consists of “repurposing…sworn officer positions or [full-time employees} to other safety, wellness or social service roles, and re-distribution of campus operating budgets.” It is part of the “holistic” and “tiered” approach to public safety. “This holistic approach will include mental health, wellness, basic needs, bias/hate response, law enforcement, emergency response and other services through...

If you were paying attention before 9/11, you knew who committed that foul act—and if you’re paying attention now, you can accurately predict who will act again. Hours after the planes flew into the Twin Towers because I paid attention to the world, I knew that radical Islam was behind the attack. Now, slightly more than 20 years after the towers fell, I can tell you that we are once again at terrible risk. The events of the morning of September 11, 2001, are indelibly etched in my memories. My father died that morning from cancer about 50 minutes before...

I picked up what I suspect are the last of the summer peaches at the farmer’s market on Friday.Local pears, as has been the case for the past decade or so, were in very short supply. I fear they have fallen out of favor with the consuming public over the years and that as the trees die off they are replaced with more marketable fruit such as peaches or apples. For the life of me I can’t imagine why, I personally would choose a perfectly ripe, juicy Bartlett pear over a peach any day of the week. The problem may...

This column examines the Supreme Court’s recent ruling in Whole Woman’s Health v. Jackson (pdf) and why the left is so upset about it. In Whole Woman’s Health, the court opted not to suspend the Texas Heartbeat Act immediately, but to wait for a hearing on the merits. In addition to agitating the liberal media, the decision has annoyed “progressive” academics. If they teach in law schools, they often belong to an outfit called the American Constitution Society (ACS), a group that is positively beside itself over the court’s order in Whole Woman’s Health. The ACS’s reaction illustrates the absurdity...

Within the United States resides the most productive, innovative, and resilient population in the world. Makers, doers, creators, all crave freedom to live their own lives and have flocked here for almost 250 years. These people joined a union with others that had a similar mindset: the American Union. This union is not a tightly organized group that takes orders. This union is one that is comprised of individuals who march to their own drum. The result is both the strength and weakness of the union. We do not know how many people are in it. The entrepreneur businessman, the...

Former CIA Director and Secretary of State Leon Panetta, who served under President Barack Obama, gave an ominous warning about the situation in Afghanistan during a televised interview to be aired Sunday. “The Taliban taking over Afghanistan is pretty much the same Taliban that controlled Afghanistan on 9/11,” Panetta said during the taping of “Full Court Press with Greta Van Susteren.” “It's clear to me that they're going to continue to support Al-Qaeda, and I think they will plan additional attacks on our country, as well as elsewhere.” The Taliban controlled Afghanistan when Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda launched the...

The American leftist media establishment is, without a doubt, extraordinarily powerful. It can shape reality in ways that are always deleterious for America and for ordinary Americans. It diminishes Republicans and elevates Democrats. Now, according to several journalists, we learn that the only thing that held America together immediately after 9/11 was the media talking heads. It wasn’t President Bush, Mayor Giuliani, or America’s shared horror and values. It was Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings, and Dan Rather. And no, I’m not reading between the lines. AP, to honor 9/11, decided that the best way was to elevate the status of...

At 9/11's ceremonies, presented as pictures on the news, many former presidents were featured. At Ground Zero, Democratic presidents were the story. Bill Clinton and Barack Obama stood dignified together for the ceremony as befits the solemn occasion. Joe Biden, though, who was with them, presented a very weird exception. He had been scheduled to speak at the event -- and then curiously, he wasn't. He stood at attention with them, but that didn't stop him from embarrassing himself. Unlike the other two presidents standing together at ground zero, Biden couldn't maintain himself in public. Start with this, according to...

Arkansas rushed for 333 yards on its way to a 40-21 blowout win over No. 15 Texas in front of 74,531 Saturday night inside of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville (Ark.). The Razorbacks (2-0) held a 16-0 lead at halftime and tacked on 17 more in the third quarter while holding the Longhorns (1-1) to just 256 total yards of offense on the night. Arkansas fans rushed the field as the Hogs took a knee and ran out the final seconds of their lopsided upset victory.

There's a way to beat the promised vaccine mandates. There is a news report that the Lewis County General Hospital in upstate New York will stop delivering babies after September 24. This is because too many maternity unit workers have resigned over the COVID vaccination mandate. The hospital's chief executive officer, Gerald Cayer, said 165 hospital employees have yet to be vaccinated and that they make 27% of the hospital's total work force. Stories like this are (or will be) repeated all across the country. And it will not just be hospitals that will be effected. Any company ordering vaccination...

For worse, and worse alone, resident Joe Biden will go down in history as the architect of Every Weapon Left Behind. While scrambling wildly out of Afghanistan, Biden bequeathed to America’s enemies the Arsenal of Anti-Democracy. Atop seizing Afghanistan in a veritable coup d’état, the Taliban inherited a staggering array of war supplies. The grimy, dusty terrorist scum who hosted Osama bin Laden have become a formidable regional power. And they have Joe Biden to thank. Biden’s generosity blessed the Taliban with a cornucopia of weapons. This bonanza is jaw-dropping for its assortment and abundance. These armaments were shipped from...

Anti-white racism, and ignorant attacks on the American founding – these constitute the greatest existential threat to America. For decades now, David Horowitz has been telling the truth about the left’s real goals for America, and explaining how they are nearing their achievement. The ignominious surrender of Afghanistan to the very enemy we fought for almost two decades there is a signal moment, revealing the deep rot in the military leadership of our nation. David has asked us to share this essay, which will be published Monday in his organization’s Front Page Magazine. We are pleased to reproduce it here...
