In honor of Labor Day, the United Auto Workers recapped some union history last week; tellingly, most of it was misleading or more than a century old.The UAW trotted out bumper sticker rhetoric like “the elimination of child labor, establishing the 8-hour workday as well as the weekend, raising the standards for education, skill levels, wages, working conditions, quality of life for all workers, and a voice in the workplace.”Like good leftists, they explained that their mission has a long way to go, including “fighting voter suppression bills.”The voter suppression claim is intriguing, considering how anti-immigrant and racist national unions...

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), currently facing a recall election on September 14, wants the state’s taxpayers to spend $16.7 million on “cash assistance” and “other services” for Afghans who are resettled in California as part of President Joe Biden’s massive resettlement operation. In a statement, Newsom and Democrats in the state legislature asked that about $16.7 million in taxpayer money be redirected to aid Afghans resettled in California by the Biden administration. The Governor, with support from legislative leaders, is requesting $16.7 million in general funds, which will be used to provide cash assistance and other services for newly...

China told Biden climate czar John Kerry that it would march to its own drummer on the issue of global warming. The South China Morning Post wrote that “Beijing has rebuffed American calls to make more public pledges on climate change before a UN climate summit in November, insisting it should follow its own plan rather than bowing to US pressure, according to a person familiar with the two countries’ negotiations.”Without China’s subscription to the model endorsed by the Paris accord, Biden’s “climate change” program is effectively dead on arrival. “China is the world’s largest [carbon] emitter, accounting for 27...

At every single progressive protest or march you will inevitably see signs waving valiantly with some varying verbiage of: “Trump is a fascist and we will not tolerate fascism.” These signs being toted by the progressive legions always strike me as such an ironic hypocrisy and leave me wondering if in fact, ANY of these people know what fascism is or, more importantly, how a country might come to be ruled by a fascist. Honestly, I doubt many of these sign holders have any idea of the definition of fascism beyond its racist and murderous component and the fact that...

A highly decorated British Army officer said he is “absolutely shocked” at President Joe Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal, rendering the 20-year war “a total waste.” “6,500 people died, including 3,000 deaths at Twin Towers, and we didn’t achieve a single thing,” said retired Special Operations Staff Sgt. Trevor Coult, who has been feted by both the queen and President George W. Bush. “He destroyed 20 years’ work in less than 24 hours.” Coult served for 21 years in Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan, where he was involved in 178 enemy engagements and survived three bomb blasts. The queen awarded him one of...

A Russian father who killed his friend after allegedly finding footage of him raping his eight-year-old girl has been released from custody amid calls not to charge him with murder. Factory worker Vyacheslav M, 34, was drinking with his friend Oleg Sviridov, 32, when he allegedly saw video of his daughter being abused on Sviridov's phone. Vyacheslav immediately confronted Sviridov who fled, but he was eventually tracked down by the distraught father who stabbed him to death. The killer has now been freed from jail and put under house arrest for two months pending an investigation. Normally suspected killers would...

The number of new COVID-19 cases and deaths in India has dropped dramatically since a second wave of the virus peaked in May. First the Alpha and then the Delta variant — which was first detected in India and is now causing strife elsewhere in the world — ravaged the country. But the seven-day average of daily reported cases this week is just a tenth of the 400,000 recorded during the peak. Reported deaths are down, too, with an average of fewer than 500 per day, down from more than 4,000 per day. According to health authorities, more than 439,000...

Facebook users who watched a newspaper video featuring black men were asked if they wanted to "keep seeing videos about primates" by an artificial-intelligence recommendation system. Facebook told BBC News it "was clearly an unacceptable error", disabled the system and launched an investigation. "We apologise to anyone who may have seen these offensive recommendations." It is the latest in a long-running series of errors that have raised concerns over racial bias in AI. 'Genuinely sorry' In 2015, Google's Photos app labelled pictures of black people as "gorillas". The company said it was "appalled and genuinely sorry", though its fix, Wired...

Tallahassee, FL — Before he was arrested, FBI Supervisory Special Agent David Harris, 51, was tasked with investigating crimes against children, including child sexual abuse material, otherwise known as child pornography. Now, many are wondering if he possibly sought out this position of power to further exploit children, as he was charged with multiple crimes against children, including indecency with a child, crimes against nature and sexual battery. Davis, who lived in Prairieville, Louisiana, was arrested over the summer on sexual assault and other charges relating to a number of victims dating as far back as 2016. Now, he has...

[Catholic Caucus] England and Wales Respond to the Motu ProprioEach year the Latin Mass Society of England and Wales organises a High Mass at England’s neo-Byzantine mother church, Westminster Cathedral, to coincide with its Annual General Meeting. This year’s High Mass on the Vigil of the Assumption was as majestic and liturgically sumptuous as ever, with a possibly record attendance of 350 – 400 people (see photo of above from the event). Among the faithful there was a quiet but perceptible air of determined resolution. Despite the promulgation of Traditionis Custodes, devotion to, and interest in, the Apostolic Roman Rite...

After racist chants, England’s Harry Kane has called on FIFA to “come down hard” on Hungary. In a tough environment, England battled to triumph in Budapest. After monkey chants were purportedly heard during Thursday’s World Cup qualifier, England captain Harry Kane had harsh words for Hungary’s fans. Regardless, the Three Lions battled on, romping to a 4-0 triumph as the team found its stride in the second half. The first goal scored by Raheem Sterling was met with boos and objects hurled from the supporters. In what was a very unsavory environment surrounding the match, ITV’s Gabriel Clarke stated that...

Today, Labor Day is largely an occasion for sales, end-of-summer cookouts and back-to-school preparations. Why? Because the movement has become as irrelevant to most Americans as the medieval guilds that preceded it — and all too often a protector of privileges rather than a force for the oppressed. In 1954, more than one in three American workers was a union member. Today, it’s barely over 6 percent of private-sector workers — but, in a huge shift, more than a third of public-sector workers (nearly 35 percent). Indeed, more than half of all union members today work for government: 7.2 million,...

Scores of inmates serving time on Rikers Island are set to be sprung prematurely as part of a desperate bid by Mayor Bill de Blasio to deal with the shortage of correction officers willing to work there, The Post has learned. The horde of ex-cons would comprise the second wave of convicted criminals granted early release since last year, when officials used the COVID-19 pandemic to justify putting around 180 jailbirds back on the streets. Those inmates were among more than 1,500 who were freed last year due to the coronavirus crisis, reducing the city’s jail population to 4,363 —...
