“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free….” Those words that grace our Statue of Liberty refer to people like my parents. My father, an oil rig worker from Colombia, and my mother, a bank teller from Honduras, came to the U.S.A. and found a place where freedom is treasured and hard work is rewarded. Our family would soon also find that even the greatest nation on earth has hardship, and that politicians often let that hardship go unaddressed, taking urban areas like North Houston for granted. We deserve better. That’s why I’m running for...

He divided it into three parcels, and the next year a lobbyist close to the Delaware senator bought one of the parcels for what had been the cost of the entire property. Later, the lobbyist gave Biden’s brother a mortgage loan on the remaining parcels. In collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), the team is launching the Solar Orbiter that will use Venus's and Earth's gravity to swing itself out of the ecliptic plane — the area of space aligned with the sun's equator, where all planets orbit. From this position, the craft will feast its eyes on the first-ever look of the massive yellow dwarf star, which will provide scientists with better data to predict solar storms more accurately. Solar Orbiter is equipped with a custom-designed titanium heat shield coated with a specific phosphate that withstands temperatures over 900 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing it...

A Democratic super PAC is expected to release a new ad campaign Wednesday that targets Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and the heart attack that he suffered late last year. The ad from Democratic Majority for Israel features six Iowa voters and argues Sanders would be unable to beat President Trump in November, The New York Times reported. “I like Bernie, I think he has great ideas, but in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Iowa, they’re just not going to vote for a socialist,” a male voter says in the ad, according to the Times. “I just don’t think Bernie can beat Trump.” Another...

[A]ccording to a recent study by former Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Holtz-Eakin and Gordon Gray, both of whom are now affiliated with the conservative policy organization American Action Forum (AAF), the effects of a wealth tax would extend throughout the economy, reducing the supply of capital and decreasing investment, which would negatively impact worker pay. Sanders' wealth tax would cost workers about $1.6 trillion over a decade, they estimate. Over time, as the impact of the tax grew, workers would end up implicitly shouldering about 63 percent of the burden. The wealthy would indeed have less wealth, but workers...

A man who had been handcuffed with his arms behind his back by police in Maryland was shot and killed inside an officer's cruiser. Prince George's County police officers responded Monday night to reports that a driver had struck multiple vehicles near the Temple Hills community, spokeswoman Christina Cotterman told news outlets during a news conference. When officers located the driver, they smelled PCP and believed the man was under the influence, Cotterman said. The suspect was buckled into the front passenger seat of the vehicle, which Cotterman said is normal for Prince George's County police. The officer then got...

McConnell says he doesn't have the votes to block witnesses? If McConnell can't block witnesses, then make Biden, Adam Schiff, Pelosi, the whistleblower - all of them and more - testify. If not, we the base of the Republican Party have the votes to block any Republican in the Senate from being re-elected. Why should Republicans exercise "The Senate shall have sole power to try all impeachments" as the Constitution says and in the same manner Democrats did with their "sole power" in the House? To bring an end to the Age of Impeachment. Republicans did not get to call...

SHOT 2020 is over and our numbers are improving, this time only 4/5ths of the team are sick! Between playing Frogger with people and their carts and being offered stickers and patches like they were going out of style, we found some awesome new products for 2020. It’s safe to say that SHOT 2020 had a lot more new stuff than in 2019 and while we each had a list of things we’re looking forward to, these are what made the top of the list! Oh…and some cringey stuff.

The largest Orthodox church in the world will be built in the territory of the female monastery dedicated to the "Bread Dispenser" icon of the Mother of God. This cathedral should be capable of gathering nearly 40,000 faithful within its walls. The starets of the monastery, Igumen Sergiy (Romanov), announced the project. He is an almost legendary and rather mysterious character, with links to many Russian public figures: the Duma deputy Natalja Poklonskaja (ex-Crimean prosecutor), the hockey champion Pavel Datsjuk, the singer Aleksandr Novikov, and others, including several entrepreneurs and oligarchs, all ready to finance the grandiose project. Its construction...

The Church of England has become a “laughing stock”, senior religious figures have warned Bishops, after they issued a decree that people in civil partnerships should not have intercourse. Following a landmark legal battle in 2018, the Supreme Court ruled that civil partnerships could be made available to heterosexual couples. However last week the House of Bishops issued pastoral guidance to clergy on how to deal with sex outside of marriage. It concluded that sex belongs only within heterosexual marriage, and that Christians who are in either gay or straight civil partnerships should conduct “sexually abstinent friendships” The guidance sparked...

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin- For nearly a century and a half, the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration have said prayers every hour of every day in their chapel in La Crosse. But next month that practice will be coming to an end. The sisters have announced that after a dozen years of study and reflection, they will begin to cut back their prayer ritual, which began in 1878, to 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily. In 1997, prayer partners were invited to take the daytime hours while sisters living at St. Rose Convent continued the night hours. As demographics continued changing...

The Constitution gives the power of impeachment solely to the House of Representatives. It means that only the House can do the discovery phase of gathering evidence and then putting together Articles of Impeachment to then present to the Senate for the Senate to judge. The Senate can ONLY judge that which the House has constructed and presented. Any witnesses can ONLY be from the witnesses who are included in the Articles presented by the House.Asking the Senate to help the discovery phase by introducing new evidence at an impeachment trial is the same thing as asking a judge or...

A new documentary about the life of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas highlights the latent racism in the Senate confirmation hearings led by then-Senator Joe Biden (D-Del.). In the film, set for release on Friday, Thomas recounts the horrifying accusations leveled by Anita Hill and Biden's twisting of Natural Law in an attempt to trip him up on abortion. In the documentary, provided in an early screening to PJ Media, Thomas exposes the racism of political expectations. "You have to believe in affirmative action because we think you ought to believe in affirmative action. How is that different from slavery?...

You’ve probably been asked to do a performance review at some point in your career. It was probably anxiety-inducing, and it probably didn’t accomplish much. Worse: it was probably mandatory. Career experts have long advised managers to do away with these kinds of evaluations, backed by heaps of studies deeming the practice outdated, costly, and largely ineffective. Last month, researchers at Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania found another reason to give them the boot. Turns out, they’re also sexist.

Supposedly Bolton’s book says that Trump tied Ukraine aid to an investigation of Biden. If so, then I don’t see how that could be anything other than a violation of the President’s confidence and ergo the Executive Privilege. If that’s what it says then I think Bolton’s career is done. No President is going to hire him if he has no respect for the Executive Privilege. I suspect that when we finally find out what he said, it will be a great deal more nuanced than what the NYT reports.
