Every presidential primary ends with one winner and a lot of losers. Some might argue that one or two once-little-known candidates who overperform low expectations get to enjoy a form of moral victory. (Ben Carson and Rick Perry might be happy how the 2016 cycle ended, with both taking roles in Trump’s cabinet. Bernie Sanders might be, too.) But running for president and flopping is a deep disappointment, and while the occasional figure can emerge from a failed bid to move on to different victories — Lamar Alexander and Elizabeth Dole became senators, Jerry Brown became governor again, Howard Dean...

A couple of months ago, I posted this write-up here which points out that Richard Bissell Jr. (CIA Director of Plans) was the first cousin (once removed) of Robert Swan Mueller III. (FYI – “removed” is the cousin of a parent. So, your father’s “first cousin” is your “first cousin - once removed.” A “second cousin” is how your child and your first cousin’s child are related.)(Original here) Robert Swan Mueller’s mother, Alice Mueller nee Truesdale, had a sister named Marie Truesdale. Marie Truesdale married Richard M. Bissell Sr. There son, Richard M. Bissell Jr. is therefore the first cousin...

The former London mayor has more in common with our 45th president than you might think. When members of your own political party invent a slogan to block your rise to power, it’s likely that you pose a threat to the status quo. In America three years ago, that slogan was #NeverTrump — establishment conservatives’ call to stop Donald Trump from winning the Republican presidential nomination. In Britain now, it’s “Anyone but Boris,” establishment Tories’ rallying cry as they try to stop Boris Johnson from becoming the next prime minister. And like the #NeverTrump movement, their efforts look destined to...

IQ rates are dropping in many developed countries and that doesn't bode well for humanity An intelligence crisis could undermine our problem-solving capacities and dim the prospects of the global economy. People are getting dumber. That's not a judgment; it's a global fact. In a host of leading nations, IQ scores have started to decline. SNIP If we want to prevent America from suffering this fate, we’d better figure out why IQs are dropping elsewhere. But it’s uncharted territory. Until recently, IQ scores only moved in one direction: up. And if you're thinking, "Isn't the test set up so that...

Trump insists he was 'extremely calm' as he walked out of White House meeting with Pelosi and Schumer following reports of temper tantrum – and tells Democrats to 'move quickly' and end investigations if they want cooperation on ANYTHING President Donald Trump blasted reports he stormed out of a White House meeting with Democrats enraged, arguing he was 'extremely calm' 'I was extremely calm yesterday with my meeting with Pelosi and Schumer, knowing that they would say I was raging, which they always do,' he said Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Trump acted like a 'baby' at Wednesday's meeting Other White...

The prospect of Donald Trump's impeachment is looking unlikely with Democrats divided over the issue, but the president may end up nudging them closer with the words "I don't do coverups." Trump abruptly walked out on a meeting about infrastructure with Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday, refusing to negotiate on policy until Democrats stop investigating him. His statement drew immediate comparisons to Richard Nixon's infamous "I am not a crook" denial, which came months before Congress initiated formal proceedings to level charges against him over the Watergate scandal. "Obviously, any time the...

President Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Sterling Heights, Michigan, on May 18 to raise support for his reelection in the critical swing state. The Daily Caller News Foundation sent a crack team to this unusual event to investigate strange rumors surrounding the event. Could thousands of people in a battleground actually gather together to support the supposedly embattled American leader? It seemed impossible. Imagine our surprise to discover the unbelievable truth. Not only were there really thousands of people at the rally, but the overwhelming majority of those in attendance actually love the current U.S. president! Donald J....

When I came of age during the 1950s, liberals and civil libertarians were deeply concerned about the abuses of congressional investigations to expose communists and “fellow travelers.” Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy was using congressional committees to do his dirty work. The committee leaders would claim that they had legitimate legislative purposes in subpoenaing actors, professors, and government employees to interrogate them about their past political affiliations. The purported purposes were to legislate more effective controls over communist influence in our government and to conduct oversight of the executive branch. Most liberals and civil libertarians saw through this ruse. The obvious...

Democrats across the nation are deeply worried about the 2020 Census. The states that are most apt to lose representation after the new Census are mostly Democrat-dominated. The states most likely gain representation after the Census are mostly Republican-controlled. That is almost entirely due to residents of California, New York and Illinois fleeing to Florida, Texas and other states. We spelled out in Part I of our Census series how California is spending an enormous amount of taxpayer money to ensure that all of the state’s hard-to-count populations — particularly illegal immigrants — are counted in the Census. That is...

President Trump on Monday paid a visit to north-central Pennsylvania, where he addressed a MAGA rally in a hangar at the Williamsport Regional Airport. As a Western New Yorker, I had only to drive a short distance to partake. Given this happy circumstance, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to see the man in the flesh. I’m glad I did. For those who have never been to a Trump rally, you should know that sour-faced liberal protesters are almost entirely absent. A carnival atmosphere prevails, and overwhelmingly the crowds are composed of ordinary Americans, either long-time and fervent admirers of the...

"Life, Liberty & Levin" host Mark Levin unloaded on Democrats Wednesday night and called President Trump the "most abused president in American history." "This president is the most abused president in American history. I could care less if they think he has abused power, you know who is abusing power? The courts that you just mentioned. Do you know who is abusing power? These chairmen who issue these outrageous subpoenas against his family for his bank accounts and all the rest. Then they pretend we're in a constitutional crisis when the president dares to say no and take them to...

Muslims living in the United States are more likely to have a friend or family member who identifies as evangelical Christian than the other way around, according to a newly released survey. The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding of New York released a study on Monday titled “Evangelical Christian and Muslim Relations in the U.S.,” which analyzed several points of comparison between the two faith communities. According to the research, 38 percent of Muslim respondents reported having any family members or close friends who are evangelical and 53 percent reported interacting with evangelicals either “very frequently” or “somewhat frequently.” By contrast,...

The state of California wants the rest of America to pay for their high-speed rail boondoggle and they're willing to sue Washington to get it. Recently, the Trump administration canceled a $1 billion federal grant to the state that would have helped fund the high-speed rail project so beloved by California politicians. But Governor Gavin Newsom says that the cancellation had more to do with politics than anything else. The suit claims the feds nixed the grant due to "political retribution" for the state's opposition to border wall funding. The state will also file a request for a temporary restraining...

The Washington Examiner reported yesterday that an IRS complaint filed by the National Legal and Policy Center alleges that “a charity run by the wife of Rep. Elijah Cummings received millions from special interest groups and corporations that had business before her husband’s committee and could have been used illegally.” Cummings is the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. His wife, Maya Rockeymore, is the chairman of the Maryland Democratic Party. Despite once being deep in debt, Cummings' financial situation has improved since marrying Rockeymore in 2008. Rockeymoore runs two entities, a nonprofit group called...

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says former Vice President Joe Biden is a “doofus” who will become a “very radical Democrat” by the time of the general election against President Trump. Gingrich weighed in on the 2020 presidential race and Biden’s chances during a Thursday appearance on “Fox & Friends,” assuring that Trump is set to win re-election. “Unless something dramatic happens the president is going to win, period,” Gingrich said, particularly pointing to the strength of the economy, which has defied experts’ expectations.

John Bel Edwards announced today that he would never seek the Democratic presidential nomination. The governor of Louisiana also announced that he would face a primary fight in his next election from progressive activists.Well, okay, Bel Edwards actually told a reporter that he would sign a bill restricting abortion on the basis of a fetal heartbeat, assuming it gets to his desk. Everyone — especially Bel Edwards — knows what that really means: The governor of Louisiana – a Catholic Democrat – says he will sign a bill banning abortions after the detection of a fetal heartbeat, if the...
