Andy Bannister answers this question in the 18th video of the "Short Answers to Big Questions" series.
Jesus vs ISIS. NUFF SED !
Why Believe the Bible vs. the Qur’an?
= = =
These days, everyone other than the Bible is lying to me.
Read both and the answer is clear.
Read both and the answer is clear.
Might as well be asking, “Does the sun set in the east, or in the west?”
i.e. it’s kind of a dumb question for those with more than the slightest of grasps of the concept.
As Pascal noted, the bible is the only one of the world’s religious texts which gives extensive and detailed prophecies about the future.
No other text dares to do so.
True. Anyone who would read/believe anything praising a caravan thief plus a pedophile is very ill.
because one tells you to do evil and the other tells you to not do evil?
For starters, the origins of the two are entirely different.
Scripture is a compilation of God inspired writings by three thousand years of authorship spanning across generations of believers.
The Koran is a poisonous screed penned by a single madman.
The Bible came first.
THe Koran speaks of the Bible saying it’s valid scripture, then it says the Bible is not accurate, and the Koran says of the Koran that it has no contradictions
The Bible calls us to Love God and to love our neighbor as ourselves and even to love our enemies. THe Koran not so much.
The Bible tells us that we need to be forgiven for sin. that there is nothing we can do to make up for sin, for if we knew something was good, it’s only what we should have done anyway. The Koran has the scales of justice, where if you’re deeds are 51% good and 49% evil, then you are okay. The Bible says Be Holy for I am Holy, Be Perfect for I am Perfect. 49% evil deeds standing before a perfect holy God is a recipe for toast.
THe Koran says Jesus was the greatest prophet, but then it says Jesus faked his death and caused a huge deception.
The Christian new testament gospels source is from the life of a figure that refused to allow His followers to pick up a sword in His defense, forcing them to standby while he was captured and crucified.
Islam comes from the life of a figure who went to war against those who would not follow him.
Nuff said.
The Bible reveals a holy Lord who is consistently so.
The Koran reveals an arbitrary entity that completely changes its message depending on how successful its messenger is being in the world (rather quickly too, only in terms of a few years).
The Bible is a drama of righteous law and grace played out amongst unrighteous mankind until Christ entered the world to to show what love will ultimately do (and not do) to resolve the unholiness of fallen men.
The Koran is the saga of building a cult and an empire, peaceful when weak and violent when strong. Which doesn’t resolve unholiness but revels in it.
The Hebrew Bible says Moses was the greatest prophet (just sayin’) (Deu 34)
“... The Koran is a poisonous screed penned by a single madman ....”
Actually new scholarship is casting doubt on that!
There seems to be pre-existing source material for much of the Koran material of Christian, Gnostic Christian, Zoroastrian & Jewish mysticism origin. Mo (if he existed! There’s now doubt about that!) compiled the material and interpreted it his way. For example Syrian Christians used what we now call Arabic script but their language though being Semitic like Arabic has different grammar & word usage. You can read the Koran in this tongue and much of the grammar & word usage problems go away. For example the passage regarding the 72 virgins goes away and is replaced by 72 white grapes - a delicacy of the time so a reward but not something that turns heaven into a brothel. There are other examples. See

Also read anything by Ibn Waraq!
The prose of both authors is academically very dense and is not light reading. However everything in it is precisely sourced (or as best as it can be!)
A very precise and accurate summary! Thank You!
Ibn Waraq, is a Star Wars character, yes?
Thank You also for the concise summary.
yeah the gay robot!
