None of the 16 publicly-confirmed lawyers on special counsel Robert Mueller’s team are registered Republicans, The Daily Caller News Foundation has found. Voter registration records indicate that 13 of the attorneys are Democrats and three have no party affiliation. This is the first time the political affiliation of all 16 lawyers has been reported.

Is it a surprise to find a Stalin apologist at the center of the Steele dossier scandal? Gotta hand it to Special Counsel Robert Mueller: He knows how to set off a stick of dynamite. I refer, of course, to his office’s recent indictment of thirteen Russians in Russia, which we are now to chase after, yelling “Pearl Harbor!” on the Left and “No collusion!” on the Right, forgetting all about the coalescing revelations of corruption and conspiracy and, yes, Russian influence, to elect Hillary Clinton in 2016, and, failing that, to destroy the Trump presidency. The key is still...

Michelle Gisin of Switzerland has won the women's Alpine combined with an aggressive slalom run to edge American Mikaela Shiffrin at the Pyeongchang Olympics. Lindsey Vonn, the leader after the downhill portion, made a mistake early in the slalom Thursday and didn't finish in what's likely her final Winter Games. Gisin was nearly flawless in finishing in a combined time of 2 minutes, 20.90 seconds to hold off silver medalist Shiffrin by 0.97 seconds. Wendy Holdener of Switzerland earned the bronze.

Six officers are on the Konawaena High School campus today following a possible threat of a school shooting. West Hawaii Area Complex Superintendent Art Souza said officials are trying to set a tone that there never was a legitimate threat. “When something like this happens, you want to take the maximum level of security and precaution without causing mass hysteria,” he said. Police received a report about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday of a posting on social media by a male party that made a reference to “shooting up local schools.” Although the posting did not contain a specific school, the juvenile...

A former South Burlington high school student who admitted making threats against fellow students and teachers apologized Tuesday, telling a judge recent news reports of the school shooting in Florida that killed 17 people nearly brought him to tears. “It almost made me cry,” Josiah Leach, 19, said during his sentencing hearing in federal court in Rutland. “I just can’t believe that 17 people died.” Judge Geoffrey Crawford sentenced Leach on Monday to five years of probation, a sentence jointly recommended by prosecutors and Leach’s attorney. Leach said that seeing the recent news reports helped him realize why others are...

A few miles down the road from Israel’s gated embassy, the Palestinian envoy to Washington sits in his office wrestling with a unique diplomatic dilemma: how to advance his people’s cause when relations with the United States are so distant that he hasn’t even spoken to the White House in months. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has written off President Donald Trump, cursing him and declaring him an illegitimate broker for peace. Trump has reacted angrily, threatening to cut off all U.S. aid and dismissing Palestinian claims that he blew up any semblance of impartiality by declaring Jerusalem to be Israel’s...

Former CNBC and MSNBC anchor Dylan Ratigan is getting into politics. On Wednesday afternoon, Ratigan formally announced that he's running for Congress as a Democrat in New York's 21st congressional district, which encompasses several counties in the northern part of the state. Ratigan spent three years at MSNBC before leaving the network — and the television business — in 2012. Before that, he worked as an executive for Bloomberg News and an anchor for CNBC. Last spring, Ratigan was hired by his former MSNBC colleague, Cenk Uygur, as a contributor to his Young Turks Network. Uygur said that Ratigan will...

When Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull arrives in Washington this week for consultations with President Donald Trump, he won’t be traveling solo. Turnbull is bringing the most senior Australian political and business delegation ever to visit the United States in a trip aimed at building stronger relationships with America’s governors. While he’ll talk trade and security concerns with Trump, Turnbull will spend the weekend courting U.S. governors at their annual gathering. Turnbull, a Goldman Sachs executive-turned prime minister, is the latest world leader to extend outreach to U.S. governors and big-city mayors in the age of Trump’s “America First” policies....

SUNRISE, Fla. — Republican Sen. Marco Rubio was put on the defensive Wednesday by angry students, teachers and parents who are demanding stronger gun-control measures after the shooting rampage that claimed 17 lives at a Florida high school. One of those confronting the Florida senator at a CNN's "Stand Up" town hall Wednesday night was Fred Guttenberg, whose 14-year-old daughter Jaime was killed on Feb. 14 with 16 others. Rubio was the lone Republican at the nationally broadcast gathering after Florida's GOP Gov. Rick Scott and President Donald Trump declined invitations to appear at the event in Sunrise, Florida. ......

Philadelphia’s top prosecutor said Wednesday his office will stop jailing people who cannot afford to pay cash bail in minor criminal cases, affirming the commitment of the country’s fifth-largest city to a national movement that argues the practice targets poor Americans. District Attorney Larry Krasner said his decision to instruct city prosecutors not to seek a bail payment in a number of misdemeanor and non-violent felony crimes will correct a criminal justice system that discriminates against African-Americans, Latinos and poor people. “There is absolutely no reason why someone who will show up for court, is not a risk of flight,...

“We have to do something.” I’ve heard that phrase time and again from politicians and gun control spokesmen. With some 23 thousand firearms regulations already on the books, it seems that we’ve done quite a lot that hasn’t worked. Those ineffective laws don’t stop the urge for more feel-good regulation after the murders in Parkland, Florida. We tried mandatory background checks. Those laws didn’t stop the mass murder at Umpqua Community College in Oregon. Background checks didn’t stop the murders at Isla Vista, California, or at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California. I chose these particular examples because...

A story claiming an FBI official has announced he’s investigating former President Barack Obama and other Democrats for treason is not true. The false story also incorrectly identified the official as “the U.S. District Attorney.” The site conservativefighters said that Dana Boente, general counsel to the FBI, will pursue treason charges against Obama “and any liberals or Democrats working to undermine the president.” Boente never made such an announcement and he is wrongly identified in the story as the U.S. District Attorney. …

When "presidential politics experts" ranked all presidents, past and current, the headlines typically focused on Trump’s position at the bottom of the list. After one year—a year with a booming economy, increased business and consumer confidence, and significant gains on the foreign policy front—they have concluded that Trump is the worst president of all time. There’s no chance of any partisan bias there, right?Trump's record is certainly up for debate, but even famed liberal pollster Nate Silver wrote off the rankings as partisan garbage in a tweet. "It speaks poorly to the field of presidential scholarship that political scientists have Trump...

I argue for a living. I often deal with hacks, liars, and agenda-driven fanatics. But never in a quarter century of being in court rooms have I faced such a blizzard of constitutional illiteracy, technical ignorance, flabby reasoning, and outright lies as I have dealing with people who think our Second Amendment rights are up for debate. Our rights are not up for debate. But, as a courtesy, because talking is the way a free people should endeavor to solve problems, we should debate them anyway. Rational discussion beats the alternative – many of us are vets who saw the alternative...

Dear Montana Representatives:On February 13th, I had the opportunity to speak in Dennison Theater at the University of Montana (UM). Events leading to the speech as well as events occurring during the speech made it clear that the Montana legislature must act to restore respect for freedom of speech on its publicly funded university campuses. I write today to ask that you pass specific free speech legislation we have already adopted in my home State of North Carolina.Prior to my speech, in a bizarre statement to the entire university community, UM president Seth Bodnar stated, “Ours is a university driven...
