  • Fewer teens are having sex as declines in risky behaviors continue

The number of high-school-age teens who are having sex dropped markedly over a decade, a trend that includes substantial declines among younger students, African Americans and Hispanics, according to a new government report released Thursday. The survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed especially steep declines in the past two years. It adds to evidence about ongoing progress in reducing risky behavior by teenagers, who are becoming pregnant, smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol and using marijuana at rates lower than younger people before them, according to public health surveys.

A suburban Chicago man has been told to stop the “slumber parties” he hosts in a basement for freezing homeless people — or the home will be condemned. “I would stay up all night with them and give them coffee and stuff and feed them,” Greg Schiller, of Elgin, told NBC Chicago of the events in his girlfriend’s basement. Schiller said his reading of city code allows for “slumber parties,” but city officials claim that code applies to children’s parties, not adults. According to the city, the “parties” Schiller hosts a few times a week actually make the home a...

Barbra Streisand took to Twitter on Thursday to share her thoughts about Trump and the GOP’s new tax plan. The actress, who is known as a frequent critic of the Trump administration, explained that the new tax plan is a trap that is deliberately meant to harm those who live in blue states, athletes, the middle class and Hollywood. “I don’t think it’s a coincidence that blue states, athletes, actors, writers, producers, and directors will be punished by this scam of a tax bill, where billionaires get billions, and the middle class gets bupkis (practically nothing) – and an eventual...

President Trump is asking Congress to approve $18 billion in funding to finance his proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, CBS News confirmed Friday. The request, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal and confirmed to CBS by a White House official, would cover construction of the wall over a decade. The official said that it's a potential ask for lawmakers as they craft border enforcement measures and will be discussed at a Camp David retreat this weekend attended by Mr. Trump, GOP congressional leaders and members of the Cabinet. An administration official said that the document from...

1600 Daily ‘You gave us a deadline’ “We’re all working in an effort to develop an immigration reform plan that will serve the interests of the American workers,” President Donald J. Trump said yesterday. The President’s remarks came after he and Vice President Mike Pence sat down with a Republican Senate working group on immigration in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. Several quotes after the meeting reveal what 2018 could hold for one of the President’s signature issues: Vice President Pence: “We’re going to enforce the laws of this country for the citizens of this country. . ....

Republican Josh Mandel has ended his bid for U.S. Senate in Ohio, citing health issues with his wife. The PPD Big Data Poll, also known as the PPD Buckeye State Battleground Poll, gave Mr. Mandel a solid edge against incumbent Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown. In July, Mr. Mandel expanded his lead over Sen. Brown. In May, the state treasurer led 49% to 44%, but that 5-point advantage widened to 8 points, 50% to 42%. In 2016, President Donald J. Trump easily defeated Hillary Clinton in Ohio, 52.1% to 43.5%. Republican Sen. Rob Portman crushed Clinton ally Ted Strickland, 58.3% to...
  • Official: FBI investigating Clinton Foundation ‘for months’

    NBC "News" ^ | January 5, 2018 | by Pete Williams
WASHINGTON — A Trump administration official said Friday that a revived investigation of the Clinton Foundation "has been going on for months." The Hill newspaper reported that FBI agents from Little Rock, Arkansas, recently conducted an interview with a potential witness. The paper said the Justice Department "has launched a new inquiry" into the foundation. But the administration official said the investigation was quietly re-opened several months ago. Nick Merrill, a spokesman for Hillary Clinton, called the renewed investigation "a sham" and said its goal "is to distract from the indictments, guilty pleas and accusations of treason from Trump's own...

Biting Arctic air — bringing wind chills as low as 30 below — will make the outdoors miserable for more than 130 million Americans in the Northeast, as well as parts of the Southeast and Great Plains this weekend, forecasters warn. But before folks file this cold snap away under "typical winter weather," scientists say the potentially record-breaking temperatures in store for Friday night through Sunday are being fed, at least in part, by a warming climate. Confused? A study published last year in the journal WIRES Climate Change, however, lays out how the warming Arctic and melting ice appear...

RUSH: Now, look, I know this is saying something, but here it is. Today more than ever, more than ever, more than at any time in the last three years it is abundantly clear and over-the-top evident that very few people inside Washington, in the establishment, inside the Beltway in American politics have the slightest idea who Donald Trump is. It has never been more obvious that they are incapable, even if they wanted to understand Donald Trump, I don’t think it’s possible. I don’t think the kind of people we are talking about have the ability to understand someone...

Boston suffered its worst flooding in 40 years on Thursday when it was walloped by the 'bomb cyclone' winter storm - and there's an interesting reason why. Benjamin Sipprell, a meteorologist in Boston for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, told the Daily Beast that the flooding was a result of the blizzard hitting at high tide, and the high tide being higher than usual due to Wednesday's supermoon. A supermoon is a full moon that occurs when the moon is closest to Earth in its orbit. This happens about four to six times a year. The tides are caused by...

The Interior Department’s number-two official issued a secretarial order just before Christmas rescinding several climate change and conservation policies issued under the Obama administration, saying they were “inconsistent” with President Trump’s quest for energy independence. Secretarial Order 3360, signed Dec. 22 by Interior Deputy Secretary David Bernhardt, wipes away four separate directives and policy manuals aimed at showing departmental employees how to minimize the environmental impact of activities on federal land and in federal waters, and calls for the review of a fifth one that applies to the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska. Instead, it directs officials to reinstate and update guidance...

LOS ANGELES — Taping of the game show "Jeopardy!" has been suspended briefly while host Alex Trebek recovers from surgery to remove blood clots from his brain, Trebek and the show's producer said Thursday. Trebek, 77, who has hosted the quintessential American quiz for more than 33 years, said Thursday that he was diagnosed with the blood clots, a condition called subdural hematoma, in December after he suffered a bad fall in October. In a video from his home that was posted on the show's official website, Trebek downplayed the operation as "a slight medical problem" and said he hoped...

STILLWATER -- The Stillwater Humane Society is looking for the person responsible for dumping a litter of puppies in the cold, resulting in the death of three. The puppies, desperate for warmth, were found abandoned in a container outside in freezing temperatures. Many tragically did not make it. There are five survivors out of eight, who are unaware of everything they’ve been through. “It’s a shame and you wonder how could anybody do that,” Savannah Kilby, an animal welfare officer said.

RUSH: From CNBC: “Black Unemployment Rate Falls to Record Low — Unemployment among black workers is at its lowest since at least the early 1970s, when the government began tracking the data. The black unemployment rate of 6.8% in December was the lowest since the Bureau of Labor Statistics started tracking it in 1972, a year in which the rate ranged from 11.2% to 9.4%. In the 45 years the data has been tracked, the unemployment rate for black or African-American workers aged 16 years and older has never fallen below 7%.” Now, to fall below 7% under Barack Hussein...
