‘You gave us a deadline’

“We’re all working in an effort to develop an immigration reform plan that will serve the interests of the American workers,” President Donald J. Trump said yesterday.

The President’s remarks came after he and Vice President Mike Pence sat down with a Republican Senate working group on immigration in the Roosevelt Room of the White House.

Several quotes after the meeting reveal what 2018 could hold for one of the President’s signature issues:

Vice President Pence: “We’re going to enforce the laws of this country for the citizens of this country. . . . We’re going to do it with a big heart.” Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) to the President: “Immigration issues are very hard, they’re very emotional. But there’s been no deadline . . . You gave us a deadline.” President Trump: “If we have support from the Democrats, I think DACA is going to be terrific. . . We need protection. We need the wall. We need all of those things.” Read how the President thinks bipartisan immigration reform can happen in 2018.

Vice President Pence: ‘Trump will not be silent’ In an op-ed for The Washington Post, Vice President Pence drew a sharp distinction between how President Trump and former President Barack Obama handled mass Iranian protests against that country’s oppressive regime.

“Where his predecessor stayed silent in 2009,” the Vice President wrote, “Trump swiftly offered the Iranian people America’s unwavering support. He has also committed to provide assistance in the days ahead.”

The Vice President’s closing lines remind us that America is strongest on the world stage when it stands behind its values. “That is the essence of American leadership.”

I don't like the sound of this. President Trump likes to get to close to the guardrails.

Lankford, Cornyn and most of the GOP Senators are Bush League Republicans who just want amnesty.
They think they can pull another one over on US.

Like it or not if the democrats agree to fund the wall and increase protections, Trump’s gunna grant amnesty to the DACA’s.

How the voters will judge his actions is open to debate.

Here's a plan, Mr. President: Deport illegal aliens. Cut off benefits to illegal aliens. Secure the borders. BUILD THE WALL.

"Like it or not if the democrats agree to fund the wall and increase protections, Trump’s gunna grant amnesty to the DACA’s."

If he caves in on the DACA issue and they are not removed from the country, the political war to restore the Republic will never even begin.

Chain migration, illegal babies, and DACA are the chief instruments guaranteeing the inevitable destruction of what little is left of the Nation.

This issue will cost him reelection, IMHO...Then only the bloodshed of millions of patriots OR the acceptance of total subjugation/servitude are the only outcomes.

Trump’s gunna grant amnesty to the DACA’s.

Everyone should keep their eye on the big picture. DACA represents only small fraction of illegal immigrants, about 800K. We admit more legal immigrants every year.

There are somewhere between 11 and 18 million illegals in this country who don't qualify under DACA.

Don't confuse DACA with general amnesty witch would legalize ALL of them.

I would gladly trade the 800K DACA people for an end of chain migration, full funding of border enforcement AND e-verify. The DACA people were never going to be deported anyway.

That would be a very good deal and Trump has the dems trapped in a headlock. There is know way they can oppose the deal and survive and Trump knows it. If they vote for it America wins if they vote against it America wins as they jump the shark for the last time.

While that may be true, one of the potential problems with an amnesty is the promise to fund and build the wall is broken and no security implemented or enforced, ala the Reagan deal. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Secondly, granting amnesty to anyone, no matter how insignificant, would likely encourages more illegal immigration.

All of that said, if I could trust it, I too would trade granting some form of amnesty (but not the right to vote) to even 800,000 of them, for building a wall, ending chain, ending birthright and e-verify and deporting the 30 to 40 million other illegals in the US.
