PHOENIX - With the threat of new federal gun control laws and regulations looming, a state legislator wants to provide legal cover for Arizonans who do not want to obey them - and penalize federal officials who try to enforce them. The proposal by Rep. Steve Smith, R-Maricopa, makes it illegal for any public servant to enforce "any act, law, statute, rule or regulation" of the federal government relating to personal firearms or accessories within the boundaries of Arizona. It defines public servants to include not just state and local employees but also legislators, judges, jurors, witnesses and consultants who...

The Germans and most of the world no longer trust us. Rather the Germans no longer trust the Federal Reserve, our political or economic elite and leaders — why should they? The United States has held the world’s reserve currency status since 1971 when Nixon took us the gold standard after Charles DeGaulle demanded that any transfer payments between the US and France be in gold. After that, the world accepted us as reserve currency, the dollar became the gold standard. Along with London and the Swiss the United States became a financial empire as well as a military and...

Isn't it ironic that Republicans keep receiving advice to be more conciliatory and work with President Obama while President Obama not only is receiving the opposite advice but fully intends to be even more divisive in his second term? On "Meet the Press" last week, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said: "There's also a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the (Republican) party. What do I mean by that? What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities." That is outrageously false, but lest you think hypersensitivity to race is all that's...

As I write this the sun has set, the shadows crawling up and down the grid of America's first truly planned city. There was a time when it was thought that the Potomac extended across the continent and the city of government would lie at the opening of an interstate aquatic highway. That was not to be. And like so many other dreams of government, the Washington City Canal has seen better days. Washington D.C. is America, as many of the men and women who work in government envision it. It is a place of great wealth and great poverty....

On January 13, 2013, H.R. 226 was introduced in the House of Representatives by Connecticut Democrat Rep. Rosa DeLauro. The bill will amend the 1986 IRS code and allow a credit if taxpayers “surrender” their guns to the government. Cited as the “Support Assault Firearms Elimination and Reduction for our Streets Act,” the proposed legislation represents another effort to convince citizens that they must voluntarily turn in their guns as a civic duty and to do their part to reduce “gun violence” and protect children, as Obama said yesterday. The bill is yet more evidence that federal and state governments...

There seems to be a common theme among the pundits and talking heads this morning, as they discuss the 2nd coming inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States. I first heard it on NPR, as one of newscasters described Obama's speech as progressive. As quoted by Hot Air, a former White House speechwriter described it this way. Atlantic Editor James Fallows, a former White House speechwriter, tweeted that the address was “the most sustainedly ‘progressive’ statement Barack Obama has made in a decade.” Admittedly, I have yet to watch Obama's speech. I will probably watch portions of...

Lost in all the attention being rightly given to the mass murder in Connecticut one month ago was the Ohio legislature's passage of yet another bill designed to improve the state's concealed carry law. The few news articles written to cover passage of HB495 (Reciprocity & Concealed Carry Modernization), which passed the day before the horrific events in Newtown, CT, were quick to point out that the legislation was passed above the objections of "law enforcement" (despite the fact that the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Buckeye State Sheriff's Association did not object to the bill). If the OSHP and...

"You don't have to be a deficit hawk to be disturbed by the growing gap between revenues and expenses," said Sen. Barack Obama during a Nov. 3, 2005, debate on the Senate floor. At the time, Obama had been a senator for less than a year and the federal budget deficit was in fact shrinking, from $248 billion in fiscal 2006 to $160 billion in fiscal 2007. Still, Obama seemed deeply concerned about the deficit, and he appeared to believe it when he said the only way to close the shortfalls was to force Congress to pay for what it...

Months in the making, Gov. Mark Dayton's two-year state budget plan is set to be released Tuesday, Jan. 22, and will likely rely heavily on tax increases to solve a projected $1.1 billion deficit and boost spending on his other priority programs. His plan is the starting point in a tax-and-spending debate that will reach well into spring. With fellow Democrats now in charge of the Legislature, Dayton's plan carries tremendous weight and a high likelihood that much of it will be enacted. Lawmakers must approve a budget by July 1 to avoid service interruptions. Barring unexpectedly deep spending cuts,...

Give Your Faith a Voice Today's Scripture “And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, ‘I believed and therefore I spoke,’ we also believe and therefore speak.” (2 Corinthians 4:13, NKJV) Today's Word from Joel and Victoria Every believer has been given a measure of faith. In order to see the promises of God come to pass in your life, you have to give your faith a voice. You must declare what God says about you in His Word. Those seeds of faith inside you are activated when you speak them out into...

Am I Looking To God? "Look to Me, and be saved . . ." —Isaiah 45:22 Do we expect God to come to us with His blessings and save us? He says, “Look to Me, and be saved . . . .†The greatest difficulty spiritually is to concentrate on God, and His blessings are what make it so difficult. Troubles almost always make us look to God, but His blessings tend to divert our attention elsewhere. The basic lesson of the Sermon on the Mount is to narrow all your interests until your mind, heart, and body are...

Republicans who support amnesty are like global warming alarmists. They can't answer the most basic questions about what they believe. Since the Republican Party is now once again considering going to war with itself over amnesty instead of trying to move the ball forward for conservatism, it seems like a good time to ask some of the crucial questions that always seem to be conspicuously ignored because the pro-amnesty side has no answers. 1) How many net votes would the GOP lose if illegal immigrants become citizens? Barack Obama beat Mitt Romney 73% to 27% with Hispanic voters. Given that...

This past week, I made an audio recording endorsing the re-election of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel's general election Tuesday, Jan. 22. I explained in the endorsement: "You might think I'm a tough guy in my films, but in a rough neighborhood like the Middle East, Israel has its own tough guy. His name is Bibi Netanyahu." Netanyahu's leadership and strength were evident as far back as 1967, when he was a part of the Israel Defense Forces' elite commando unit, Sayeret Matkal. And they were just as obvious in his public service through the years, as I...

A new report from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis reminds Americans that, contrary to the narrative that huge deficits and debt are merely a recent product of the Great Recession, the problem began over forty years ago. Daniel Thornton, the St. Louis Fed's Vice President and economic adviser, finds what conservatives have been saying all along is true: it's steadily increasing government spending, not a lack of tax revenues, that's causing all of this. [A]fter 1970, both revenues and expenditures increased on average relative to the previous two decades; however, revenue increased marginally while expenditures increased significantly... on...

While the most sweeping provisions of the health care overhaul have not yet gone into effect, plenty of Americans will still be paying higher insurance premiums this year -- as insurance companies try to preemptively cover the cost of a tax increase included in President Obama's Affordable Care Act. That tax doesn't take effect until next year, when other major provisions like the so-called "individual mandate" and insurance subsidies also kick in. But that hasn't stopped insurance companies from charging higher premiums this year to cover the hike, as well as the cost of ObamaCare benefits such as free birth...
