CVS Pharmacy sent out a text message this morning saying they had vaccine available. I went to their web site a couple hours later and there wasn’t a dose in all of California that wasn’t reserved by people.

I kept checking last week and kept coming up “None available.” Then one of our health systems got a supply, I quickly snagged a spot, and got dose #1 on Monday this week. It’s a pain that they didn’t have a “Contact me when back in stock” feature on the various web sites. Almost all of the health systems made you wade through all the same questions over and over and over until you got to the page saying “None available at this time.” Why couldn’t they just put that on the front page?

I remember when Frank Zappa was on Crossfire in the 1980s about Censorship in music. The irony was that the “conservative” Robert Novak supported Zappa more than the “liberal” Tom Braden.

What the last few days are telling us is that the stock market has not reflected any kind of sound business fundamentals in the U.S. economy in years. Its valuations are based almost entirely on the fact that it was a comparatively better investment than what was available with absurdly low bond yields.

This has been a speculative bubble driven by low interest rates for more than ten years.
