Gov. Josh Stein vetoed a slew of anti-Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) bills and a gender bill on Thursday but signed a licensure agreement bill and one that protects parents and caregivers from legal consequences for raising children in alignment with their biological sex.
Among the bills he vetoed was SB 558, Eliminating “DEI” in Public Higher Ed. The legislation prohibits UNC System schools and community colleges from promoting discriminatory policies and practices.
Under the measure, public colleges and universities would be required to eliminate offices and staff dedicated to DEI initiatives. The bill prohibits promoting “divisive concepts,” such as the idea of systemic racism or moral culpability based on race or gender. Institutions would be barred from requiring faculty, staff, or students to affirm any DEI-based beliefs. Additionally, SB 558 would eliminate processes for reporting incidents described as “offensive or unwanted speech.”
SB 227, Eliminating “DEI” in Public Education, aims to remove DEI offices, staff, and divisive concepts from K-12 public schools, ensuring education focuses on core curriculum without promoting ideologies deemed inconsistent with equality.
The legislation outlines 12 divisive concepts, such as the belief that one race or sex is inherently superior to another, the idea that meritocracy is inherently racist or sexist, and the belief that the US was founded to oppress certain groups.
One of its key sponsors, Republican Sen. Michael Lee of New Hanover County addressed examples of DEI-related trainings in K-12 schools on the House floor that he said perpetuated divisions and deepened societal issues. These sessions, he noted, included teachings on “whiteness as property” and “interest convergence,” a concept suggesting racial justice is only supported by white individuals when it benefits their interests.

This is the second terrible governor that North Carolina has had in a row. And already Stein is showing he's even worse than Roy Cooper.
“Roy Cooper was the worst governor in North Carolina History!”
Josh Stein,”Hold my beer ..”
What’s with these whacky government losers???
Better question…what’s wrong with the voters?
What’s wrong with NC? Same as every other State - Big blue cities infested with White Liberal/Leftists, Illegals, and Ferals.
To the contrary, parents who raise their children contrary to their biological sex are the ones that should be in jeopardy.
Raleigh Durham Chapel Hill Asheville and Charlotte. There is your answer
They are one short in their state house from being able to override. The GOP needs to go to work on flipping a vote.
” infested with White Liberal/Leftists”
Mostly imported from NY and other upper Northeast cities that have collapsed socially.
Stein is an ordinary carpetbagger. His family moved there to harangue the people of North Carolina and they haven’t quit.
They literally despise the original settlers of the state and seek to replace them.
Union interlopers.
Stein is showing he’s even worse than Roy Cooper.
****
He went to Hahvahd..
Parents, especially moms need to get involved. It worked in Florida.
Stein is the typically commie Jew boy that infests America.
You left out Greensboro, High Point and Winston Salem. They are just as bad if not worse.
“What the HELL is wrong with North Carolina?? “
Very simple. The Republican Party has failed to run electable candidates for governor in the last 3 elections.
2016 - Moderate GOP Governor Pat McCrory ran for reelection against Democrat Roy Cooper. McCrory had recently made the incredibly stupid and unpopular decision to award a European company the contract to relieve traffic congestion on I77 north of Charlotte by adding toll lanes with variable tolls. Cooper smartly beat him over the head with his decision. McCrory lost the election in a squeaker. Analyzing election results the lost Republican votes in the counties affected by the toll road north of Charlotte accounted for the loss.
2020 - Republican Lt. Governor Dan Forest lost to incumbent Democrat Governor Roy Cooper 51% to 47%. Many voters felt Cooper had done a good job managing Covid. The only thing noteworthy about Dan Forest was his campaign slogan “Run Forest, Run”. Why run if that’s all you have to say?
2024 - Conservative Republican Lt. Governor Mark Robinson ran against Democrat Attorney General Josh Stein and lost by a 55% to 40% margin. The race started out tight but Robinson became embroiled in a number of controversies which blew up his campaign. The press and Democrat operatives uncovered and revealed the skeletons in his closet and the moderate Republican voters for Stein, third party, or write in candidates.
The lessons - Run strong intelligent candidates capable of developing and articulating a compelling message. Vet your candidates to make sure they don’t have hidden skeletons in the closet which Democrat operatives will find and bring out during the campaign. When you are in office don’t embrace stupid policies such as adding toll lanes, operated by a foreign firm, to one of the heaviest traveled Interstate highways in the state. Finally, the people of North Carolina won’t vote for you just because you are running under the Republican label. If you are a bad candidate they will vote for an alternative or not vote at all.
Note - Donald Trump won the presidential race in NC during all three years the GOP could not win the governor’s mansion. Good candidates win, bad candidates lose.
End discrimination by discriminating?
I thought Triad was Republican. 🤷♂️
THIS is the guy that the democrat elites thought would be a better VP than Walz.
What more do we need to know about the ‘RATs...?
“Many voters felt Cooper had done a good job managing Covid”.
Voters this servile and stupid explains why NC, and much of America, is doomed.
If the NC Republicans nominate a quality candidate, it would be a Republican in the governorship. Do they have the votes to overturn those bills?
