WEAPONS FOR THE SUBURBAN PREPPER

ne of the most commonly talked about topics in the preparedness world is some form of “what weapons do you need to survive XYZ?” or “The top 5 must have weapons”. Many of these articles and videos, however, seem to follow a one size fits all approach to weapon selection. As prepared citizens, we need to make sure that we not only have tools to use, but that those tools are the ones best suited for the job. Many of us are working with small budgets for preparedness supplies, and thus I think that there are crucial aspects of weapon...

The Surprisingly Solid Mathematical Case of the Tin Foil Hat Gun Prepper

As gun policy discussions unfold in the wake of mass shooter incidents, they routinely end in three buckets. There’s the “tyranny can never happen here” bucket, which the left has mostly abdicated in the wake of Trump winning after they called (and still call) him a tyrant. There’s the “you can’t fight the army with small arms” bucket, which is increasingly unsound given our ongoing decade-and-a-half war with Afghani tribal goat herders. And there’s the “what the hell do you need an AR-15 for anyway?” bucket, which, by its very language, eschews a fundamental lack of understanding of what those...

Prepper Paranoia or Pragmatism? Inside Wyoming’s Underground Survivalist Movement

“Watch your step. It’s steep on the way down.” There’s something unnerving about climbing down a set of narrow stairs and into a metal pod buried on a rural plot of Wyoming ranch land — bad things happen in buried bunkers, don’t you know — and when coupled with the darkness of the room below, it feels bit like you’re stepping to your doom. “There’s nothing to be scared of. You’re safe down here,” Dylan* said, stifling a laugh. The 35-year-old father of two has spent the last few years preparing for disaster, and the addition of this pre-fabbed steel...

Two Utah girls were found safe Monday three months after they were allegedly kidnapped by their “doomsday prepper” dad -- who reportedly betrothed his daughters to a cult leader. An Amber Alert was canceled Monday when authorities found Hattie Briella Coltharp, 4, and Dinah Elizabeth Coltharp, 8, outside Lund, FOX13 Salt Lake City reported. Authorities initiated the alert when they received a tip and arrested Samuel Warren Shaffer, 34, who calls himself the prophet of a polygamous sect named “Knights of the Crystal Blade.” The children’s father, John Coltharp, is a member of the sect. Authorities raided a suspected sect...

A New Jersey man who spent decades preparing his home for doomsday is donating all of his stored food to families affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Joseph Badame says he was prepared to lose his supplies anyway after the bank foreclosed on his Medford home. The 74-year-old says he found a new use for the food after meeting a couple at an estate sale last month raising money to send to their family in Puerto Rico.

They include combat rations, a self-powered radio and a first-aid kit. / Korea Times file By Lee Min-hyung "Prepper," or a person who believes a catastrophic disaster will come in the near future, is emerging as a catchword in South Korea, amid growing military uncertainties over North Korea's missile and nuclear threats. The number of doomsday pessimists is rapidly growing here, as is shown from the number of relevant YouTube videos and their views. In particular, Kang Yoo-mi, a famous female comedian,...

Is Glock the Perfect Prepper Handgun?

Some preppers talk about the versatility of Glock 17 magazines being able to fit with the Glock 19. This feature is highly desirable for most prepper with survival and limited resources in mind. The standardization Glock put into place is what makes it a perfect prepper handgun. When it comes to handguns, very few companies have adopted magazine standardization. Glock on the other hand has embraced standardization. This makes Glock ideal for groups. Take Beretta for example. Beretta is a great handgun, I can not say they follow the same level of standardization as Glock. For example, the Beretta APX...

(VANITY) Prepper Advice Needed: Anticipating Post Trump Victory Riots

VANITY
The lying MSM teliing the 10-20 million illegals here, BLM, and other violent groups that Hillary is a 10+ favorite is setting up the U.S. for widespread riots. The cooked polls (sampling 5, 10, 15, 20% more Democrat voters and using Obama-turnout numbers) are creating a scenario where leftists will perceive the Trump win as unexpected and cast the results into doubt. Similar to the Brexit they will immediately ask for a 'do over' and use civil unrest as a political weapon. Recall that Obama advised his cousin in Africa to cause riots post election to extort a place at...

So, “Molon Lave Me,” and, “Rock and Goad,” and all that, hooraw, yeehaw, and etc., but, if ever—-well…a better way, would be to find a better way Hi there, Prepper. Ready for the Zombie Apocalypse? Got your off-the-grid, bugout bag and property and shelter all tricked out with the latest in alarms, freeze-dried food, barbed wire, and see-in-the-dark scopes? Got the camo, ballistic vest with the water bladder, 300 rounds of 7.62 or 5.56 ammo inside 10 magazines? Is that the vest with the built in holster for the Glock 21 with 13 rounds in the grip, plus two extra...

Greetings Everyone; I do hope everyone is doin fairly well. I do know & understand that I should be posting here more, but life gets in the way [a lot around here] Anyway, we have talked in the past about reading, reference & entertainment, when things get real ugly & bad out there. Well Providence has "smiled" upon me [again]. I have been fortunate to meet [on line for now] a Mr. Ron Foster. He is a "Prepper" novelist. He has written a lot of books about different aspects of prepping & dealing with disasters. This is from his Amazon page;...

Greetings All; Here is another thought provoking discussion on what we can do when the world we know & love falls apart. Last week I had posted some thoughts on using an air rifle to remove garden raiders/pests. So after talking to a friend of mine [Jim Chapman], he recommended this article from the mag. Outdoor Life. [www.outdoorlife.com] He goes through a very long list of air rifles & their different uses. Air guns have come a very long way since the days of the Daisy Red Ryder's. There are some rifles that can hit a target out to over...

Greetings Everyone. Time for us once again to gather around the computers & speak of what we need to do & are going to do if & when our civilization falls down flat upon it's face. And before we begin, I know that I am kind of lax about putting this thread out. I/we have our priorities in place. and for me I have a wife & son both with special needs that come first & foremost in my life. Then comes our homestead, and stuff down the line from there. My garden is doin ok, since we are having...

Greeting Everyone. It is time once again for some more thought provoking ideas & discussion. I've been getting some FReep mail about some ideas for this thread. One of which covers, if you & your family do have to "bug-out" where do you go to & how are you guys going to get there. There are several lines of thought on this, depending on the disaster you are prepping for. Are you [like me] looking at a total grid down [via either natural or man made] or are you worried about Yellowstone super volcano going off, or is it an...

Hello Folks, this thread is either way late of very early [depending on how you look at it] . I have been getting notices from the State of Missouri Dept. of Conservation, about the deer population/s within our state. In one of our earlier discussions I brought up the subject of problems in prepping & food sourcing, like this. Here are a couple of the email I got; Arkansas deer disease findings prompt Missouri to increase sample collecting May 17, 2016 By Alisa Nelson The discovery this spring of 86 cases of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in northern Arkansas has...

Prepper Food Storage Question

Dear Freeper Preppers: I have tried to find answers to these questions, and just haven't had much luck. Freepers are always incredibly knowledgeable, so I thought I would throw this out for general comment. I live somewhat off the grid, in that I live with a bare minimum of electrical appliances. I have a small, motel-sized refrigerator. Its temperature varies. It is so small, that the thermometer will indicate a 5 degree reduction in temperature if I just open the door. During the winter, it is fairly easy to keep it below 40. During the summer, that becomes a challenge....

Greetings All; Here is another thought provoking discussion on keeping yourself & your family & friends safe when your world turns upside down & inside out. It was posted on this ping-list about civil unrest/riot/s, and what would you do, if caught in such a situation/s. Well for starters for me, I do NOT plan to be caught in such a situation. I avoid the areas where such could occur at anytime. If for some reason, that I would happen be caught in such, I would become a "grey-man" & disappear. Head on a swivel, cell phone turned off, move...

Hello Everyone; Once again I have to apologize for not posting when I should. But life just gets in the way of me doing things like this. I do have a couple of different topics for discussion, [and please comment on BOTH of them] 1] How in shape are you? I ask this because I have been tilling in a brand new garden [about 1 1/2 acres] in an area that has never had a garden before. And am I feeling it too. Hello Everyone, it is time to once again to open our mind/s to the realms of saving our & families arse/s when things go from bad to worse. I would have posted up last week, but I & my family were under the weather, so I had to play nurse to the 3 of us. So now let us discuss property management. For me, we have 5 acres here in eastern central Mo. by the mighty Mississippi River [way above the flood plains too]. But about 1/3 of my property is over grown with trees & invasive plants. And in...

Blessed Good Friday & Easter weekend Everyone; With this being one of the holiest weekends of the year, it got me thinking. We have been discussing a total grid down situation/s where basically everything would have gone to heck in a hand basket. We know that we're not going to live forever. So after the world has totally fallen apart, what are going to do with those who has "passed on before us". There are a lot of different ideas & methods available to us. Everything from building very elaborate concrete & rock tombs, to being cremated, to just leaving...

Ok folks we have been talking about a lot of things, food, long & short term food preps, comm., & a lot of other subjects. Well now, we're gonna talk about some topics that may be a little harder to deal with. We're looking at ourselves & our values [both good & bad]. We know nothing lasts forever, parts break, wear out, get stolen by others, traded off for other items, ect.. [Now we are looking at a worse case theory here.] 1] How do you define theft/looting, from salvaging/scavenging? 2] When does it become permissible to threaten deadly force a)...
