Daily Mail ^ | 21 March, 2020
A suspected coronavirus sufferer in Kenya was beaten by a group of youths armed with stones and later died in hospital. The man, named locally as George Kotini Hezron, was going home after visiting a bar in the village of Msambweni in Kwale County when he was attacked yesterday. Residents suspected him of having the virus and decided to set upon him as he walked home at around 9pm, according to local media. The vigilante mob argued with Hezron and accused him of having the deadly disease and threw stones at him before fleeing.

The Kenya Wildlife Service was called to the reserve after it was reported the giraffes hadn’t been seen in quite a while. Upon finding the bones, wildlife officials estimated they had been there for at least four months. “This is a very sad day for the community of Ijara and Kenya as a whole. We are the only community in the world who are custodians of the white giraffes,” said Mohammed Ahmednoor, manager of the reserve in Garissa County, Kenya, in a news release. The animals got their unique coloring from a condition known as leucism, which is a genetic...

Buttigieg Campaign Used Stock Photo of Kenyan Woman to Illustrate Plan for Black America

New York Times ^ | November 18, 2019 | Stephanie Saul
Pete Buttigieg’s presidential campaign, struggling to build support among black voters, removed from its website a photo of a Kenyan woman that was used earlier this year to illustrate his plan to dismantle racism in the United States. The plan includes health care, education and voting-rights reforms as well as proposals to address discrimination in policing and criminal justice. Mr. Buttigieg has failed to gain traction among black voters — a critical constituency in the path to the Democratic nomination — even as polls show he is building support in largely white Iowa. A poll of likely Democratic primary voters...

'We Need God's Intervention': Police Chief Arms Himself With Bible to Fight Crime on Kenyan Streets

A police chief in Kenya has developed an unconventional way of fighting crime on his city streets — by invoking the power of God and trawling through crime-ridden areas armed only with a Bible. As jobs go, Chief Inspector William Sifuna has a pretty tough one. He is solely responsible for keeping law and order in Maralal, Samburu County, where gunfights erupt daily and robbery and extortion are common. Over the years, however, one thing that Sifuna noticed was that most of the crimes are in some way related to the theft of livestock. So, the man who is colloquially...

After realizing their opponents were at a disadvantage, the Israelis surprise the Africans with a useful gift. Israel’s under-19 Women’s lacrosse team showed some true sportsmanship during the World Championship in Ontario, Canada, last week, after they realized their opponents were playing at a disadvantage. During their match against Kenya in Peterborough on August 6, the Israelis noticed the underfunded African team did not have cleated shoes as is standard in the sport. The grass was wet from rain and the Kenyans were slipping and having great difficulty with the field conditions. Israel eventually won the game 13-4. Ashlee Aitken,...

Casually strolling along a Kenyan beach, this the British second husband of Ilhan Omar at the center of her immigration row with Donald Trump. Ahmed Nur Said Elmi appeared not to have a care in the world as he walked across the sand while on holiday in Africa over the weekend. The Somali British immigrant married Omar in 2009, but they split up in 2011. Omar has faced claims that Elmi is her brother and she is a bigamist. Omar married her first husband Ahmed Hirsi in an Islamic ceremony in 2003 and the couple had two children. She then...

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Kenya’s High Court on Friday upheld sections of the penal code that criminalize same-sex relations, a disappointment for gay rights activists across Africa where dozens of countries have similar laws. The judges’ unanimous ruling in the closely watched case was followed by activists’ vows to appeal. Many in Kenya’s vibrant gay community had hoped the court would make history by scrapping the British colonial-era laws and inspiring other countries in Africa to do the same.

The notorious freshman member of the U.S. House of Representatives plays the victim card. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), the controversial freshman member of the U.S. House of Representatives who has a habit of indulging in anti-Semitic stereotypes, complains about feeling marginalized in a land of white privilege. In an interview with Vogue Arabia, Rep. Omar, a refugee originally from Somalia who became a U.S. citizen nearly 20 years ago, waxed nostalgic about her days in a Kenyan refugee camp. She spent four years there as a child before resettling in the United States. At the refugee camp, Omar said, she could...

During that interview with KTN’s Str8up, the singer told the show host that he wasn’t feeling well. Two days later, Sagini passed on after being rushed to the hospital. During the show the interviewer, after introducing the show, informed the viewers that although the guest was not feeling well and was under medication, he had managed to make it. ‘TESTIMONY’ “Thank you so much for coming Sagini, so you are not feeling well what is...

Devon Brown would have been just another statistic - one of the 486,900 black inmates in US state and federal prisons by the end of 2016. But an academic year in Kenya during his seventh grade changed his life forever. "Honestly it turned me into the man I am today. From a boy with limited options in inner-city Baltimore to a man who has now run an ice-cream company with revenues of $400,000 (£310,000) as its CEO," he reflects. Mr Brown's childhood had all the ingredients for failure. Born on 9 January 1990 in East Baltimore, his late mother was...

Melania Trump criticised for wearing colonial-style hat during Kenyan safari

Melania Trump has prompted consternation, some anger and much derision by choosing a pith helmet – a symbol of colonial rule across Africa – as headwear for a brief safari in Kenya. On the penultimate day of her tour of the continent – her first solo trip overseas – the first lady visited an orphanage in Nairobi before heading to a national park near the city. Dressed in riding pants, boots and a spotless white pith helmet, the former model climbed into an open-air vehicle for the safari, taking photos on her iPhone of zebras, giraffes, impalas, rhinos and...

This week, first lady Melania Trump is embarking on a trip to Africa, with stops in Ghana, Kenya, Egypt and Malawi. Details of her itinerary were not initially available, so we turned to two of our contributors, a public health worker who is originally from Ghana and a scientist from Kenya, for their suggestions in the form of a letter to the first lady. Make Time For Rural Life Welcome, to beautiful Kenya — the country I call home. Welcome to Africa, my mother continent. Most likely, you will be taken on a safari — because that is what every...

As drought kills Kenya’s livestock, some herders are fighting hunger by growing their own grass. At noon in Joseph Kwopin's dry and dusty homestead in Kenya's central Baringo County, a calf shelters from the sweltering sun under a shed made of sticks. The barren ground has no vegetation but for a few shrubs and the red-flowered Carraluma socotrana plant – a rare species whose appearance here could seem cruel given that it isn't edible, even to livestock... According to UNICEF, 2.6 million Kenyans have become food insecure as a result of the lack of rainfall. The Kenya Red Cross reported...

The documentary -- "Mully" is a must-watch: Remarkable story of Kenyan who saved 10,000 children

Charles Mutua Mulli, one of the most interesting and inspirational people you’ve probably never heard of, woke up in his family’s hut in a tiny village in Kenya one morning in 1955 and discovered that his parents had taken his brother and fled. Charles had been abandoned. He was 6 years old. The tale of that child’s experiences over the ensuing 60 years is told in a compelling new documentary titled “Mully” (he later changed the spelling of his surname), directed by the actor/filmmaker Scott Haze. It is a rags-to-riches story of extraordinary dimensions – i.e., Mully literally went from...

Vote ruling a rare win for Kenyan opposition veteran Odinga

NAIROBI - For Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga, Friday’s Supreme Court ruling nullifying last month’s presidential election is a rare win in a life spent at the losing end of his country’s infamously harsh politics. The 72-year-old spent years as a political prisoner and has mounted four failed attempts to win the top job. August’s elections, that he lost to President Uhuru Kenyatta, were widely expected to be his last shot. Now Odinga has another chance, though he still faces an uphill climb - Kenyatta’s party swept the legislature and local elections, and the now-voided results put him 1.4 million...

Obama's Kenyan ancestors sold slaves

... on both his mother’s AND his father’s side of the family, Obama is descended from people who owned and/or sold black African slaves. How ironic that Obama received almost universal support from blacks who are here because their ancestors were grabbed up and sold into slavery by other black Africans, including Obama’s father’s tribe. Not surprisingly, when this issue first came up from a story published in the Baltimore Sun on March 2, 2007, quoted here by Sweetness and Light, which only looked into Obama’s mother’s family, the media demonized Obama’s mother’s side of the family for apparently owning...

Barack Obama calls for 'peaceful and credible' Kenyan elections amid fears of violence

Former President Barack Obama on Monday called for unity and peace during what he fears could be potentially violent elections on Tuesday in Kenya, his father's homeland. "I urge Kenyan leaders to reject violence and incitement; respect the will of the people; urge security forces to act professionally and neutrally; and no matter the outcome," Obama said in a statement on Monday. "I urge all Kenyans to work for an election — and aftermath — that is peaceful and credible, reinforcing confidence in your new constitution and the future of your country." Every Thought Leader Must Either Publish Or Perish...

Barrack “The Kenyan” Hussein Obama, Time Traveler?

(Satire and sarcasm) - These documented photos would seem to confirm that Barrack “The Kenyan” Obama, AKA Barry Soetoro, may be from another world or dimension. How else could this incontro-convertible, top-down, proof, provided by unnamed sources close to CNN, account for Mr. Soetoro’s apparent travel between Times and Worlds. I mean—pictures, and the news, and CNN, don’t LIE, right? These jaunts through time by The Kenyan would also perhaps seem to help account for chaos and disorder of human events world-wide. I mean, what has he ever done that proved otherwise? Help me out here? (What time can we...
