Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
They are neccessary now - it's just that nobody including yourself has much respect for anything they say. You and yours have supplanted what the apostles said as it has pleased you to do so. Many of the Protestants have done the same. What difference then does it make if they were here or not. It's just as easy to run them through today as it was back then when the witness from their mouths convicted people of the wrong they did and angered them to wrath. If they survived the Catholics it they likely wouldn't survive the mormons or the Jehovah's witnesses. somebody would have their heads. They'd be laughed out of churches, spat upon, and otherwise dispised. Too bad really. People are just too dumb sometimes to know who they are dealing with. And philosophy trumps truth in their books - just like it did in Christ's time. Imagine that...
Yes, of course. But I also noticed that the later flight was just filled to capacity with all of us who got bumped from the earlier one.
Far be it for me to accuse an airline of deliberately cancelling a scheduled flight to save money, but they all are losign money hand over fist.

No she isn't :')
then I'm sorry I misunderstood.

Paul is quoting a Psalm. Is that what the Psalm says?
Whose "flesh" and what could be expected to "profit"?
I think it means that our own bodies, our own flesh, will not profit from taking the Eucharist.
And they won't, really, other than whatever nutritional value is found in a tiny unleavened wafer. (And no you can't make pizza with it!)
Our bodies still get gray and achy and tired and worn out and dead. The flesh profits nothing.
Instead our souls, our spirits profit enormously from the Eucharist. It nourishes our souls and sees us through our lives, then it provides us with the gift of eternal life.
It even provides us with new, glorified bodies.

Have you tried it yet. Get you some velveeta cheese 1lb., 1lb. of sausage fried and crumbled, and 1 can Rotel, put it all in a crock pot let it melt stir it up. Use it for dip on Fritoes or Doritoes. Pretty good.

I think it's likely that they understood him "in the flesh" only (without the Spirit) and could not understand Him.
Do the other places in Scripture that discuss being "in the flesh" refer to "flesh" or a "human understanding" as opposed to a spiritual understanding?
I'm getting over my candied kielbasa lumps right now, but maybe sometime in the future.

I presumed it was short for "Roach Motel"
"Tradition" says that a child of Mary would have had to be female. I said with God all things are possible, and that I really didn't care how he made His SON.
I do tend to lean that His body was probably cloned from Mary too. I'm guessing though and you are also. Scripture doesn't tell us. But you know what? It wouldn't make any difference to me.
No offense intended but you are really being very disrespectful towards Mary here. You are telling her that if Jesus' physical body came from your body then I will worship and adore you and elevate you to a divine status but even though you carried him, birth him, and nutured him and loved Him , if you were just a surragate (isn't that the word you used?) then this changes everything.
Okay, but consider this. Everything comes from God. The Catholic petitions Mary, who petitions God for the favor. So the ultimate source is God. But then, there is a different stream of belief which says that God will grant anything that Mary asks, because he cannot refuse her. And if God cannot refuse Mary, then she does have functionally divine power.
she does not control to whom they go
Then why pray to her for graces? From a Catholic web site:
Prayer of Petition
O Ever-Virgin Mother of God and Mediatrix of Grace who art the House of Gold within which dwells thy Son, our Mediator, Jesus Christ, we humbly beseech thee to grant our requests for our salvation and the salvation of the entire world. (Here pause and make your requests) Keep us close to the Vicar of thy Son in the unity of the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic and Roman Church. Hear our prayer and grant the requests we make to thee.
Popular devotions such as this clearly suggest that Mary distributes the graces. And the writings of the popes I posted certainly don't contradict this.
John 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
Um, this is a proof-text for the inability of the Bible to be all-inclusive. Stating that there is more that was revealed to the Apostles than what was written down. That this revelation is guarded by the authority of the Church.John 20:30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:What was written is all we need.
20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
By establishing it (the Church) they were in charge. They even wrote letters detailing the faith and had them sent to the other assemblies.
Of course they were in charge. So why did this end?
The Apostles were not in charge.
I know this because JESUS, Himself, said that it would not be so.Matthew 20:25-27 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
Since I don't know what it is, I'd have to say no! ;o)
Not being taken literally is not the same as not being taken seriously.
So Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. (John 10:7)
Do you take this literally?
Says who?
