Rejecting Christ

"For those who disbelieve, 'the stone which the builders rejected, this became the very corner stone,' and, 'a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense'; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed" (1 Pet. 2:7-8).

Rejecting Christ leads to spiritual damnation.

Israel was a unique nation, chosen by God to be the guardian of His Word and proclaimer of His kingdom. The Old Testament records His miraculous and providential care for her throughout the centuries, and the prophets told of One who would come as her great Deliverer. Israel eagerly awaited the promised Messiah.

But the story has a surprise ending. In the Person of Jesus Christ, the Messiah finally came and presented Himself to Israel. The religious leaders examined Him carefully, measuring Him in every way they could. But He didn't fit their blueprint. They expected a reigning political Messiah who would instantly deliver them from Roman oppression. They felt no need for a spiritual deliverer, so they rejected Him and tossed Him aside like a worthless rock.

That rejected cornerstone is precious to believers but remains a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense to unbelievers. A "stone of stumbling" was a stone on which someone tripped while walking along the road. A "rock of offense" was a rock large enough to crush a person. The point: rejecting Christ brings spiritual devastation of enormous proportions.

All who reject Christ do so because they are disobedient to the Word. Rebellion against the written Word inevitably leads to rejection of the living Word. Of such people Peter said, "To this doom they were also appointed" (v. 8). They weren't appointed to reject Christ, but to receive the judgment that their rejection demands. That's a frightening reality that should motivate you to take every opportunity to evangelize the lost.

Suggestions for Prayer

If you have family or friends who are rejecting Christ, pray for them often, asking God to grant them saving faith.

For Further Study

Read Romans 9:30-10:17, noting Israel's false standard of righteousness and Paul's prayer for her salvation.

But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil. (Jeremiah 44:16-17)

Exactly. My opinion is, this queen of Heaven mentioned by Jeremiah, is indeed, Semiramis, of Nimrod fame. I won’t say what I think her name is now. I will leave that to people’s imagination. That’s why I think the religion of Nimrod, was widely practiced in the world, at the time Jesus walked the earth. In some ways, the religion of Nimrod, is still practiced in the world today.

It's striking to me how some Roman Catholics care more about winning people to their church than they are to winning them to faith in Jesus Christ

Most cults do that. I have heard Mormons and others say exactly the same thing. The same rule applies, however. They all are more happy that people are joining their church. Not that people are being saved, because most don’t have a clue what being saved really means.

Faithful Christians will stand by the teachings given once to the saints.

Your comment: “All of which pompous bombastic assertions are begging the question, presuming the very thing you have failed to substantiate, versus distinctive Catholic teachings not being manifest in the only wholly inspired substantive authoritative record of what the NT church believed - which you ignored - while your parroted claim is based upon the the novel and unScriptural premise of ensured perpetual magisterial veracity, which is just one of the unScriptural distinctive Catholic teachings.”

Catholic teachings based on the Word of God, Sacred Tradition passed down from Jesus are well documented.

You don’t accept and reject specific key parts of God’s Word and instead believe in the sinful man made understanding of God’s words.

As you have indicated that you are a lapsed catholic, yet you reject the Catholic Church, the authority of the Pope, the Mass, the Sacraments, The Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

You may believe whatever you want and criticize the Catholic Church (our many sins and errors)but you should avoid telling lies about the Catholic faith (8th Commandment).

The Church is a holy mystery because of her origin in the Holy Trinity and her mission to be the Sacrament of Salvation. As a catholic, we have an obligation to keep the precepts of the church (Attend Mass, Confess sins, Receive Eucharist and observe fasting and abstinence).

So by leaving the Catholic Church and forgoing your obligations, do you believe that God will forgive your mortal sins if you fail to make a good confession before your death?

All are welcome and all may return to God’s Truth. Yes the Church has liberal and conservative members but it is still our responsibility to Love God and neighbor.

It's striking to me how some Roman Catholics care more about winning people to their church than they are to winning them to faith in Jesus Christ (and that is NOT the same thing)! What's funny is their OWN catechism admits that there are true Christians outside of the Roman Catholic religion.

Usually the RCs that promote and defend their church here are TradCaths, which either reject the modern V2 "clarifications"/contradictions of historical teaching such as pronounced that not only pagans, but also Jews and heretics and schismatics cannot become participants in eternal life, but will depart into everlasting fire...unless before the end of life the same have been added to the flock; and that..no one...can be saved, unless he has remained in the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church.” (Pope Eugene IV and the Council of Florence (Seventeenth Ecumenical Council), Cantate Domino, Bull promulgated on February 4, 1441)

Or they do what they condemn us for doing, which is that of interpreting their supreme authority, in their case the RC magisterium, so making the affirmation of V2 to conform to past teaching, so that those "who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church," (CCC 838)"All who have been justified by Faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ: they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers by the children of the Catholic Church," (Dominus Iesus:) "there are many who honor Sacred Scripture, taking it as a norm of belief and a pattern of life, and who show a sincere zeal. They lovingly believe in God the Father Almighty and in Christ, the Son of God and Saviour. (Cf. Jn. 16:13) They are consecrated by baptism, in which they are united with Christ," they are joined with us in the Holy Spirit, for to them too He gives His gifts and graces whereby He is operative among them with His sanctifying power," (LUMEN GENTIUM: 16) yet means that one needs to repent of such beliefs as SS and sola fide to be saved, since the TradCath needs to make V2 conform to certain past teachings.

Which means that while they usually do not realize it, those who condemn "private interpretation" of Scripture (paradoxically erroneously invoking 2 Pt. 1:20 as condemning this) under the premise that instead one is supposed to rely on and submit to official Cath. magisterial teaching and thus avoid divisions, yet they themselves interpret the interpreter, and which, to varying degrees, is often unavoidable.

Yet this does not mean there is no unity under SS or its Cath alternative, SE (sola ecclesia), as in both cases the substantiation for core doctrines is such that we are unified in most core Truths (and Catholicism itself recognizes a hierarchy of Truths), and the most significant divisions are mainly those that are a result of faith in men and or another source of Divine revelation.

Salvation is found only in Christ, and not the Roman Catholic Church.

As such, any Catholic who comes to saving faith is now part of His heavenly Body of Christ.

Most leave the earthly Roman church once they come to know Him.

No evidence of most of these traditions appear before 100 ad

Most are found in the pagan religions of the Roman Empire, however.

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[b] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[c] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[d] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

Jesus Predicts His Death

21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.

22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”

23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

A church built upon Satan?

Hmmmmmmmm

Do you truly do not understand the Bible and the Catholic faith or are you trying to mock Jesus and His Catholic Church?

Yes Peter did not want Jesus to suffer and thinking as a human being he said “This shall never happen to you” Jesus rebuked Peter because Peter at that time did not understand Christ’s suffering for the benefit of sinners.

If Christ felt Peter was Satan, then why did Christ later appoint Peter to build His Church, Preach and Baptize all nations? Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of Heaven and the authority to bind and loose and forgive sins.

Satan can quote scripture like you do, are you following Satan?

Your Comment: “Trade salvation and eternal security, and Christ for dead rituals that cannot save??

OR possibly no salvation for those that reject Jesus and His Church.

The Catholic Church teaches infallibly, “extra ecclesiam nulla salus,” or, “outside the Church there is no salvation.”

There is no salvation apart from Christ and his One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Again, this is an infallible teaching and not up for debate among Catholics.
Those who are “invincibly” ignorant concerning the truth of the above will not be culpable for this lack of knowledge before God.
Those in the category of no knowledge of God have the real possibility of salvation even if they never come to an explicit knowledge of Christ and/or his Church.

You really have no idea of what I know, or don’t know.
You’re projecting.

I don’t mock God or Jesus.

He did one of two things in those verses..

Called Peter Satan
Or
Recognized that Satan spoke through Peter

You see I don’t and didn’t attack you personally like you’ve done in your post.

I quoted scripture then asked a question.
Lol again, look at the verse...it’s not me, is Jesus’s own words.

Peter is not the rock upon which the church is built.

The ROCK (Petra) upon which it is built is upon the truth that Peter uttered in the first part of the verses I posted.

Five verses later this same mouth was used by Satan.

That’s the point.

We’re ALL told to go make disciples.

Key difference?
Man worship and the worship of things of this world, verses what Jesus actually says

Interesting...you failed to post Jesus’s next words to the fisherman...

[Peter] “...You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

I know why you avoided this =o)

All men are flawed
It just happens to be that one particular religion venerates sinful humans to the false co-equal position of the Creator who is blessed forever.

In this it is temporal and a failed works based system.
In today’s world, Jesus would call them a brood of vipers.

Jesus would apply the same words be applied to the Pharisees to this religion.
It’s the same.

Care for someone to post the recent blasphemous statements by your Pope?

Line by line, let’s see if you’ll refute his heresy.
