Please pray for my Lenny.
Hugs, love, and prayers, Salamander.
God is merciful and Loves you dearly. His spirit is in us. He is with us always. Always.

Thank you for that kindness.
No, keep praying. Walk to Daily Mass if you can.
Hang in there. Nothing to be terrified about — God loves you!
Prayers for God to hold you close in His powerful arms. Have you asked any churches or charities to help? Please don’t be too proud to ask. You need help and they are there to do that.
Are there any FReepers close by? I know they’d help!
I’m of the opinion that it is very rare that God sends us crap to have to deal with in order to strengthen our character and our faith. The natural world gives us enough crap to deal with on a day-to-day basis to do that.
But - it would be nice to have a crumb of hope once-in-awhile. I know. It is hard sometimes when things get so out-of-control. Praying for a crumb of hope - “Even the dogs get the crumbs from the Master’s table”.
More prayers up....
Not sure there are any charities or churches who do car repairs.
I’ve never seen such insanity.
First the Dodge dropped a valve seat [and who knows what else is wrong with “Christine”], then the gas hogging 8mpg-if-I’m-lucky-and-get-a-tailwind aircraft carrier Suburban started acting wonky and stalled out coming down the mountain on the ‘killer curve’ which meant I was suddenly without power steering or power brakes at the worst possible time.
Man-handled it to the shoulder and put it in park.
In the few seconds it took me to find and switch on the 4ways, I realized how utterly, spectacularly, horrifyingly DARK it is up on that mountain...*right* where the black bears hang out all the time.
It’s hard to see them with high beams on, so just forget it in pitch darkness.
I’m ashamed to say it, but in the eternal 2 minutes it took to get it started again, my hands were shaking.
So, now, not only did I have no way to get food or visit Lenny, I had NO way to get my dogs to the vet, God forbid anything happens to them.
As you know, I nearly had the old Ibizan put down, only to have the vet give her a bunch of meds which have literally pulled her back from the abyss, but she’s still in rough shape and could possibly go down again.
Knowing me as y’all do, you can imagine how worried I am about that dreadful possibility.
So, after messing with a battery charger and then a trickle charger half the night, I went out to start my bike up, thinking to haul at least a little food home on that.
Battery is dead.
Totally.
So I had to take Lenny’s bike, which does not “fit me” at all, and with which I am totally unfamiliar, and make a 45 mile round trip with my food in a collapsible grocery cooler, tied to the rack with a 25’ Dollar Tree piece of paracord.
I can’t imagine what other drivers thought of that sight.
The only bright side is that my eternally compulsive PetValu clearance shopping has paid off in spades.
I stalk that place all the time and snatch up dog food at 50-85% off regularly so the dogs have a chest freezer full of food and are sitting pretty.
[yeah, they always come first]
Honestly, the only FReeper I knew of fairly nearby was Zygoat and he’s been missing here for many years.
I have no pride left.
Not a bit.
Totally broken.
I’ve had to beg for everything for the last two months, with the exception of dog food, as already mentioned.
Sometimes I think I should just give up and make up a cardboard sign and go stand on the medians at the mall like other people.
They make a killing all day and then drive home at night in really nice cars.
:-\
This is a weird crumb but Honeywell is replacing free a dog watching cam that I got cheap at ROSS last year, that the power cord broke on.
Not even asking for the old one back as evidence.
When the guy told me that last night, I just started crying like an idiot.
I apologized for that crazy woman outburst and then told him a short version of how everything else has gone to crap so the replacement camera was a wildly happy thing for me and meant more than he could ever imagine.
It made him extremely happy to help me and he prayed for me.
So there is that.
Tonight i skimmed the book of Job.
Wow.
I am SO not any kind of a Job.
Here I am freaking out about the local black bears and you live in *Alaska*. o.O
;)
I’m glad things with the doggy cam worked out. And the guy prayed with you!
I’m at a large church (west coast, sorry) that does car repairs for free for folks that need it. A bunch of mostly older guys. So they are out there - not sure about your area obviously.
I support a group called Christian Appalachian Project. They do a lot of good work in helping fix up homes, take care of kids, health stuff. I didn’t see a car repair thing on their website, but it might be worth a call.
I hope that Lenny is making progress in rehab, but taking it slowly.
I have literally had to pin a head nurse to a wall to get him proper care in that craptastic nursing home.
All that place needs is Jack Nicholson and Brad Dourif to be complete.
When I come in, they all cringe because they know if something’s amiss, there will be hell to pay.
At 3:30 am a couple nights ago, I “fired” his useless doctor.
He had a new doc *and* nurse practitioners dancing attendance on him by the next day.
Tell them you’re calling that “Abuse 800 number” posted on the bulletin board and they will jump to.
I’m sure I’m known as The Ravenwood Horror by now.
[stomping in wearing Doc Martens and Walking Dead tee shirts probably helps]
:D
Prayers up.
I do too.
I'd agree with 21twelve, give them a call; it can't hurt and might help. The other might be Salvation Army, or one of the other charities that take car donations.
What part of Maryland do you live in? Is there a Social Services office near you? If so, go talk to them; they will help connect you with any organizations that can help you.

Above is a garage that does services for folks that need a helping hand at a discounted (free?) rate. Located in Fredrick, MD.
Dear Sweet Sal, I am SO sorry for your troubles and can relate completely! I have had whole YEARS of those kind of compounded attacks and I can say with all my heart that I DO understand!
I will keep you in my prayers, in Jesus Holy Name, and send my heart of encouragement to you in kind thoughts.
Amen.
We don’t know why these things happen. God is not mad at you. Asking God to send angels into your life to help you with these seemingly intractable problems. Blessings
I could not possibly understand your situation and how scary and depressing it must be. But, by the Grace of God, I or any of us could be there, too. I wish I had immediat answers to relieve you of your worry and concern.
Please call some of the local churches. If they don’t DO car repairs, they might have members that do, or they can help you in other ways, like giving you a ride to the grocery store, etc. Also, there have to be entities there that help people in desperate need, which I hope I’m not insulting you by thinking you fit that description right at this moment. I am no expert, but The Salvation Army or Catholic Charities comes to mind.
I am truly more worried about you than I am of Lenny at this time.
((((hugs))))
