In John 3:3 and John 3:7, Jesus uses the words “Born Again”. In 1 Peter 1:23 it is repeated and that passage ends with “for ever”. You can’t be “un-born”.
Well, what does the Seal of the Holy Spirit mean?
The answer to that question will answer your question, to wit:
Ephesians 1:13-14King James Version (KJV)
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
The King James Version is the standard; any other English translation is watered down and of limited value, as you already know.
You can abandon it. Many people do this.
Judas was a Disciple.
What a great question and hard to discuss in this venue. It was my first question after I got saved.
Spooky. I was just thinking about calling the Salvation Army to pick up some furniture here just as I clicked to go on the FR and your thread title came up right at the top.
One thing I can add for thought.
If the choice of salvation is ours. If it is we that do the choosing, then we also have the power to unchoose. There is NO security of salvation then.
If God does the choosing, it is a lock. Gods word is golden. Can anyone find instances of God choosing some and not others in the Bible?
Well that begs further thought, will cause a headache and the words, “but that is not fair”............
Yes.
Depends on how badly they need the money.
Good question. The Bible says if we believe we will be saved. God saves us knowing we will sin again. I don’t think you will lose your salvation, but I do think a saved person feels remorse when they sin, and that they seek forgiveness and an earnestness to not sin again.
If you deny God after you have been saved......I don’t know.
I admit that I am just a babe in the woods when it comes to such things, I can only go on what is in my heart and how I celebrate God’s love for me and his sacrifice so that I can be saved. I am always growing in my understanding of God’s creation and his plan for me.
I appreciate the discussion.
I think the Great Commission gives a basic answer. Whomever is a disciple, is of Christ’s. There’s no qualifying beyond that. It’s our encouragement when you fail.
I think a falling away is mentioned in the bible; somewhere...
Lost - saved - lost - saved - lost - saved - lost - saved???
Thou art the Lord,
And all beings are Thy servants, Thy domain;
And though those who serve idols vain
Thine honor is not detracted from,
For they all aim to The to come. —Solomon ibn Gabirol, 11th century synagogue hymn writer
As it is, I'm a 50-something year old who is still in Christian kindergarten and only now just beginning to learn how to let God be God.
Otoh, sure, why not. With human free will and a spirited ego, anything is possible, and woe unto those who sell His Blood for their own glory.
Then again, is it also true that one can't lose what one doesn't have? Is that the case here?
"I Never Knew You"Fwiw, every time I think I have an answer, I always end up just having more questions.21 Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?
23 And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!Matthew 7:21-23 New King James Version
Notice how many parables refer to the Kingdom. That is the inheritance. It can be refused--but the saving of your spirit remains.
I’m Baptist
Southern...a big secret to most FREEPERS but I’ll admit it I’m actually southern
I’m sure y’all figured I was from Massachusetts
Anyhow we’re warned not to deny or attempt to rebuke God or steadily fail a moral life at our own peril of eternal damnation
Catholics and lutherans may see it different
In my creed I’d say you denied Christ and joined ISIS
yer done fer regardless if you ever walked down front as a kid
