Cardinal Turkson: If Climate Talks Stall, Pope Francis May Gently Intervene

LE BOURGET, France - If international climate talks really stall, don't be surprised if there might be an ever-so-slight intervention by Pope Francis.

Cardinal Peter Turkson, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace who helped draft the pope's June encyclical on global warming, said the pontiff has "deep trust" that negotiators in Paris will get the job done. But just in case they don't, the pope might possibly send a gentle message, he said.

"If it gets to a stalemate or whatever, he may utter a statement or make a comment or whatever, but he will refrain from exercising any coercive power on the things over here, because that would not belong to his style," Turkson told The Associated Press after a press conference by Vatican officials Tuesday at the Paris climate talks.

If the pope did intervene with a gentle statement if negotiations bog down, it would "show the gravity of the situation and highlight what's at stake," said Jennifer Morgan, global climate program director for the World Resources Institute.

The Pope should seriously consider GOD’s power and love for the earth he created.

To me, this isn’t the church’s business.

Save us from abortions, euthanasia, contraception, etc.

Lead us to reconciliation, daily Mass, the Sacraments, etc.

Errant statements by one Pope are no reason to leave the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. You can come back at any time since you were baptized a Catholic and so will remain a Catholic forever.

Just sit down with a priest and get your questions answered.

I’m not Catholic but I am a Christian and American patriot and it is puzzling how a true to their faith Catholic Christian red blooded American can maintain their loyalty to the Catholic church under this communist NWO complicit Pope?

Are you saying a Catholic’s faith cannot rely on the words of Christ?

His religion is leftism and he loves the islamics.
He praises Robert Merton who love sufi islam and called them his brothers and introduced their pagan mantras into churches in America .

His climate change tax is right out of Sharia law too

Salvation, I get all my questions answered by the King of Kings directly through His Holy Word. .

Nobody can come between me and Him ever. What you suggest isn’t even scriptural.

1 Timothy 2:5
Hebrews 9:15

And I left the RCC long before this spook got his name changed to Francis.

I don’t participate in the anti-Catholic threads... but let me say this.... It seems it would be more consistent with the new testament if the Pope would simply declare that God sustains the earth. That God has already written down what Earth’s future will be, and what mankind’s future will be. That God’s word is true and that this earth will be sustained by Him until the end times come. And that only faith in Jesus Christ can save our eternal soul. That He alone is the sacrifice for our salvation. That all roads do not lead to heaven.
