Rupert Murdoch Defends Moses Movie Casting: “Since When Are Egyptians Not White?”

Rupert Murdoch took to Twitter tonight to defend 20th Century Fox's new movie "Exodus" that casts Christian Bale as Moses, and a variety of white actors as Egyptians. There’s been scuffle on Twitter ever since Murdoch made his observations. And a lot of this stems from a quote director Ridley Scott gave Variety about why he didn’t use Egyptian or Arab actors for the film. He said: "I can’t mount a film of this budget, where I have to rely on tax rebates in Spain, and say that my lead actor is Mohammad so-and-so from such-and-such," Scott says. "I'm just not going to get it financed. So the question doesn’t even come up."

Egyptians were not racism—skin color didn’t mean much to them—some pharaohs were white, some were black, but most were brown—hamic people. They should have cast Mexicans or south Americans. Egyptians were only interested in the Gods you worshipped. Cleopatra was a Greek—not one bit of Egyptian blood—but she spoke Egyptian (as well as nine other languages) dressed like an Egyptian, worshiped and ate like an Egyptian and was fully accepted as an Egyptian by her people (or most of them in any case).

At one point during the Exodus, Moses had a Black Wife.

His sister Miriam made a stink about it, and God struck her with leprosy for a couple of days.

In the running commentary behind this movie, the commentator posits that this Nubian lady was Moses Black wife, but that didn’t occur till much, much later in the story.

This Lady was a captive Princess who seemed to have a crush on her captor, much to the jealous chagrin of Nefertari.

The twitterverse is running gaga over the notion of a black man wearing a stormtrooper suit in the new Star Wars film.

Now consider just how few times the face of any REAL stormtrooper was ever seen in the Star Wars films. It was probably a heroic lead in “disguise”.

Since Egypt is north Africa that means Egyptians belong to the Caucasian race

Yep. Today they are mostly ARABS and their official language is Arabic. Caucasians all of them. Been there twice.
A few Nubians sneak up the Nile once in a while, mostly for work. It didn't LOOK like there were many mixtures of the Caucasian Egyptians and VERY black Nubians.
I always forget how MOST blacks here have SOME white in them.
