‘Makes Christianity Look Silly’: Creationist Ken Ham Unleashes on Pat Robertson
The Blaze ^ | May 15, 2014 | Billy Hallowell

Young earth creationist Ken Ham lashed out at televangelist Pat Robertson over his claim earlier this week that someone has to be “deaf, dumb and blind” to believe that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, accusing Robertson of compromising “the Word of God.”

“Pat Robertson illustrates one of the biggest problems we have today in the church — people like Robertson compromise the Word of God with the pagan ideas of fallible men!,” Ham wrote on his Facebook page. “Pat Robertson is not upholding the Word of God with his ridiculous statements — he is undermining the authority of the Word. And any attack on the WORD is an attack on the person of Jesus Christ, who IS THE WORD!”

Ham, who runs Answers in Genesis, a Christian ministry that takes the Bible’s Genesis account of creation literally, broke down the comments Robertson made on CBN’s “The 700 Club” earlier this week in a point-by-point analysis.

In addition to accusing Roberson of expressing “his utter ignorance of science,” Ham wrote that the televangelist “makes Christianity look silly.”

But Ham took particular exception to Robertson’s claim that there is no way that the Earth could have possibly come to fruition in such a short time span.

“Really Pat Robertson? You mean there is no way God, the infinite Creator, could not have created the universe in six days just six thousand years ago?,” Ham rhetorically asked. “God could have created everything in six seconds if He wanted [to]! And it’s not a matter of what you think anyway — it’s a matter of what God has clearly told us in His infallible WORD!”

As TheBlaze previously reported, Robertson unleashed his critiques on young earth creationists Tuesday, saying that they are mistaken in their views about the age of the planet.

“The truth is, you have to be deaf, dumb and blind to think that this Earth that we live in only has 6,000 years of existence, it just doesn’t, I’m sorry,” Robertson said.

He added, “I think what we’re looking at is that there was a point of time after the Earth was created, after these things were done, after the universe was formed, after the asteroid hit the Earth and wiped out the dinosaurs — after that, there was a point of time that there was a particular human being that God touched — and that was the human that started the race that we are now part of.”

Ken Ham and organizations like ICR are trying to return Christianity to its inspired roots. A careful study of all literature will show that a young earth is not only plausible, but probable. The followers of scientism and nature worship have been lying to us for over 150 years. Creation was a miracle. Try to explain that to Gaia worshipers. Darwin was a bitter God-hating fraud and Sagan now knows more about the cosmos than he ever did. The geologic “time scale” is a logical progression of sedimentation after the Noahic Flood.

You probably don’t believe that Jesus Christ transformed water into wine, or fed thousands with few loaves and fishes, all of which require time to produce.

Yep, this world just kinda happened; just took billions of years/ sarc.

I have great respect for the personage Pat Robertson USED TO BE. But he has come off with some dingbat statements in recent years which indicate to me that it’s time for ol’ Pat to retire to his farm and whisper to his horses.

Well said.

How old was Adam when God created him? (Why, less than a day old, of course.) How old did Adam APPEAR TO BE when God created him? If a doctor could go back in time to that day, how old would he conclude Adam was?

What about geologic formations such as the Grand Canyon? Was it unkind of God to create such a thing? Should He have made the Earth look “new” (i.e. completely flat and level) and denied us the beauty of the Grand Canyon?

And what about the light from distant stars? We see it and conclude that it originated billions of years ago. Was it deceptive of God to create their light already on its way to (and even arriving at) Earth? Should He have instead denied us the ability to see the stars?

Can't see how Robertson is wrong in this debate. Petrified fossils are millions of years old, not 6,000 and to assert the contrary accuses the Creator of lying through the fossil record.

If you believe the Bible, you must accept that all of creation was affected by Adam's sin. If that is the case, we can not take our science of today and look at a world before sin.

We have no way of knowing if the rules that work in a sinful world would also apply to a sinless world.

History is not a straight road, but has a corner we can not see around.

Christians should be more concerned about the end of time, rather than arguing about the beginning of time.

Jesus is coming soon! Heaven is real. Hell is real.
Those who believe in Jesus as Christ their Savior will have an eternity to hear God tell the truth about creation....

We should be more concerned about telliing our friends and neighbors about the Good News while there is still time.

That is precisely the point and why I get irritated with the 6K earthers.

I am strong believer in Christ and the Bible and still believe the Earth is millions of our years old. Nowhere in the Bible does it say the earth is only 6000 years old. Only that man has been here partaking in God’s creation for 6000 years.

At the “end of the day” it doesn’t really matter, though. Are you a new creation in Christ or not? If not, you have bigger problems than how old the Earth is.

How many days weeks or months are in a God-year? Does everyone think the Creator had a watch and a 365 day/12 month calendar year before the universe(s) exploded and started to expand?

Can't speak for others, but I think God wrote the Bible to us, not Himself. So when He says "six days", that's six days as WE understand it.

It's either that, or He wrote something to us that He knew would be misunderstood by us. (But that view doesn't agree with the God I read about in the Bible.)

I have to agree with Pat Robertson here: young earth creationism makes Christians look really bad. God actually did *not* lie to us by filling the physical universe with evidence of great age and planting evidence that life not only evolved in the past but continues to evolve. Since God is not a liar, it is clear: the Bible is a moral code, not a scientific document.

I agree with Robertson as to the earth being more than 6000 years old...and the bible actually allows for it!

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Gen 1:2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

In verse 2 the words "without form" and void" are a a couple of hebrew words tohu and bohu. The grammar leaves open that it could be translated "The earth became without form and void".

In other words, there was a earth that existed prior to this and something caused it become desolate.

There's similar wording in Jeremiah:

Jer 4:23 I beheld the earth, and indeed it was without form, and void; And the heavens, they had no light.

The same words tohu and bohu are used and this is describing the state of the world in a warning to Israel if they don't repent.

Also there are events described in the bible that must take place before man was created....such as the fall of Satan and the other third of the angels. Since Satan was in the garden before Adam and Eve sinned he must have fallen at some point before then.

I believe that under the proper circumstances, water will turn into wine.

I had a priest explain the loaves and fishes at mass once...he explained that back then, many people, especially nomads, travelers or those on pilgrimage, carried pretty much all they owned on their person, including food. He had said that the miracle, was that all those that had food, after hearing Jesus speak, shared what they had with those that had none. The priest was a full-bird Capt in the USN.

So essentially, there is no proof that anyone’s sins have been forgiven?

Is this view official, Pat? Did you get a “word of knowledge” and everything?

Could it be ole lionspaw Pat is a deceiver being deceived in the 2nd Timothy 3:13 sense? Could Pat be one of those described in Romans 1:22? Could Pat have been fooled by the Enemy, an enemy who has been working to make men doubt God’s Word since the Garden?

God Almighty is the single Being who can truly say: “Are you going to believe Me or your lying eyes”.

I will believe God. I've had enough experiences to know not to trust my own perception.
The problem is that I don't believe, and nothing in the Bible tells me, that God created rocks in the shape of bones and trees just to mess with my head.

If you choose to think Genesis says He created the whole universe 6,000 years ago, you're free to do so. I know it doesn't say that.

**I believe that under the proper circumstances, water will turn into wine.**

That’s nice. Circumstances.....like a bunch of carbon atoms (and a few stragglers, like iron atoms) got thrown in the water, and then a bolt of lightning.........

Matthew 15:32. Then Jesus called his disciples, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have NOTHING to eat; I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.”

So, Jesus took the basket with a few loaves and fishes, that the disciples had, and in short order there was abundance.

If people can’t believe those miracles, how can they believe that Jesus Christ arose after being dead for three days?

I was thinking more like some yeast floating around in the air, maybe some grapes in a jar that was open to the rain...just really bizarre stuff like that.

Lots of folk don’t believe in the resurrection.

There are a lot of views on creation that are held by Christians.

Trying to get the world to buy off on one view over the other will not save one lost soul. Our energy is wasted trying to win this battle. Our call is to preach Jesus.

Exactly. It’s like arguing over the color for vestments or pew cushions. We’ll all find out what happened the minute we meet the Lord.
